Extreme Data Usage
About October 15 my data usage went up 300 to 400% in one day and has not gone down. Three days of the month I was out of town and still had exteremly high data usage. There is a problem with Cox data usage monitoring. I called Cox and they said there is nothging they can do about it. I asked for them to send a tech out to investigate the problem and they said they do not send techs out to solve this type of issue. I have no choice but to drop their service. I have been a customer for over 20 years and they have no loyalty.hdavis7111 months agoNew Contributor II1.2KViews0likes20CommentsDid Cox just close up shop...?

The last two months we have exceeded or nearly exceeded our 1.25TB data allowance. This has never come close to happening before. If I look on Cox at the data usage categories I see that nearly all the total is used by "Network Management & Testing" which is supposedly a category that includes internet speed tests. Needless to say we are not doing a terabyte worth of internet speed tests, so something else is going on here. Any ideas? Is there another common type of activity which gets put in this category? Is this an issue others have experienced?LDTurpy11 months agoNew Contributor435Views1like5Comments- Dbenedict2411 months agoNew Contributor77Views0likes5Comments
Cox internet bill keeps increasing!
After about a year, my bill went up $20 without any notifications. I called customer service and said that my promo discount has ended. The representative I spoke to applied a new discount and said that my new bill will be going up only $5 instead. I received the new bill and still shows the $20 increase. I called customer service again told me that I'm already receiving the best discount and lowest fee on my current service. I've been deceived by the previous representative and told me the wrong information so I can agree on a 2yr contract. Now I have a penalty if I cancel my service due to this. Has anybody experienced this as well? I am so upset because I've been lied to by their customer service over the phone. So I start a discussion and COX replies with a no reply email and a twitter address. I dont use twitter and dont intend to start using, in addition they lock down the disscussion I created so you can no longer reply or add to it, I guess they found a way to solve this issue, canned response and dont allow a further discussion from the customers point. Anyway here is what I wanted to say. Well I don’t have a twitter account and don’t intend on setting one up. Anyway this is not a specific outage it is an on going issue, internet is down, COX says they’ve fixed the problem, have a maint. Scheduled or some other problem but then the internet works for a week or two, then its down again, and same story as before, maint, unplanned outage, updates…etc. The problem is this has only been and issue in the past year or so. I don’t need fast or more bandwidth, I just need a stable internet that works.meteor196211 months agoNew Contributor52Views0likes1CommentGetting Fed Up.... Daily Outages
About a month ago, there was an approx 24 hour outage in my neighborhood. Since that time other outages outages have been occuring, and lately they've begun to occur daily. Since I am on one of my devices at the times these outages begin, I note the times via a third-party remote app that texts me when my home network loses connectivity. The outages begin around 3pm, and within minutes, I've recieved the text message from Cox notifying me of an outage. During a typical outage session, initially, connectivity is lost, but modem is still connected to its peer. Then later, you note that the modem has lost its connection and is constantly retrying to connect to its peer. Further text messages indicate the estimated time of repair to be somewhere around 7pm. In all cases, so far, connectivity is restored by 4:30pm. Up to the long outage a month ago, my internet connection had been ROCK-SOLID for approx 10 years, and that issue was my use of an old Linksys modem that was marginally supported by Cox. I say "marginally supported" as the supported hardware list listed the modem but various Cox techs said it was NOT supported. Once I replaced it, problem went away. Yesterday, I was right in the middle of a very important piece of work, and almost like clockwork, my desktop connectivity monitor showed I'd lost connection. Since I can see the modem from where I sit, I saw the blue light showing it was connected to its peer. Soon, there came the dreaded text message. Since I now had nothing better to do, I decided to call the support number. Once I'd done so, and entered my phone number, I get told there is a known outage in my area and the support tech cannot tell you anything. Good Bye CLICK... As an aside: Pretty **bleep** rude.. Myself and several neighbors, who are ALSO afflicted by this are planning on filing a complaint with the FCC as none of us have been able to get an escalation from Cox.dfrandin11 months agoNew Contributor202Views0likes8CommentsName of Wi-Fi has been changed to CoxWiFi after disconnecting.

Over the past few months Ive had more outages and down time than in the past 10 yrs. I see ads from cox trying to convince people to stay with them and not move to a cell providers internet service. The ads also talk about faster speeds.what good are faster speeds if half the time the internet is not working at all. Here is a screen shot of the most recent outages and a response from people in the neighborhood about it. As you can see people are ready to try other services regardless of the speed they just eant it to work consistentlymeteor196211 months agoNew Contributor95Views0likes1CommentLocked out of account

Like some posts here have been alerting, I live in North Phoenix/Glendale, and I have been experiencing nightly speed drops for what seems like two weeks, progressively getting more consistant. I work from home 100%, and so far this is only happening later in the evenings, around 9PM or so. My ping will shoot up to 200+ ms and my content, either games or streaming will have significant lag, to the point its unusable. I am on the 500/50 package, and these symptoms are abnormal to my experience so far, barring a hiccup here and there. A month or so ago, there was some late night cox work happeing to underground cabling a few houses down that took down my blocks internet for a few hours, ever since, the issues have started to happen more and more frequently. Now there are all sorts of cox flags and paint markings pointing out underground cables on most of the homes on my block, not sure if its related or if there is some sort of maintenance being planed soon? I have a linksys CM3024 modem, and when the lag hits, a modem restart seems to not work, and I'm pretty much out of comission until the latency stabalizes over night. This is pretty ridiculous for the amount of money I pay a month, and worse that COX never seems to see this on their end when I call in.wolv27511 months agoNew Contributor110Views0likes2CommentsPanoramic wifi keeps resetting itself.

Paradise Hills, San Diego - Ever since we saw a cox vehicle show up on our street this past Saturday, November 11,2023, we've had a constant outage later that day and the outage has not been resolved. As we were leaving for a food shopping trip we passed by a vehicle belonging to Cox that was parked like five houses down from ours. When we inquired with one of our neighbors the next day they told us that the vehicle eventually moved and was also parked by the electric pole that is in front of our house while we weren't home. Who knows what work the technician did on our street that day but since then I have been receiving texts around noon that there is an outage in my area, then a few hours later another text that the outage was resolved but "it appears one of your devices is having trouble connecting." These texts have been occurring daily for the past three days. This is my first outage from Cox this year and also the first time I've received so many texts on and off having to do with an outage. I only have the Internet Ultimate 500 plan. Our billing is up to date, cables are not damaged or frayed, and power cycling the Surfboard Arris SB8200 modem has not helped (it just keeps scanning downstream searching for an internet connection). I tried "Smarthelp" and chatting with a VA from India to help with troubleshooting before requesting an appointment for a Cox tech to arrive at my location. The appointment is for today, between 3p-5p, so I'll update this post with the results of this upcoming visit.Solvedmortuno111 months agoNew Contributor97Views0likes3CommentsExtreme speed drop at night
I've been experience significant speed drops in the evening. Great speeds in the early morning (near my gigabit download speeds). Have the PW8 modem (for free during a two year deal). Last during the day speed test was 11/5 at around 10:30 AM (I work from home). 931 Mbps down, 114 Mbps up. But this evening, awful download speeds and this is not the first time this has happened. Reported it to the cox help email; had a tech out and the said signal levels were just fine, tightened some connections, and left. In the old days you called Cox and they said, yep, understand, cable was cut, we'll be out tomorrow to fix. That's it, one call and they came out and fixed it, no problem. Today, we all have separate appointments to send people out that probably cannot fix the main issue - only to say yep, your cable is out because the line is cut, and then we will probably have to wait who knows how long to get the appropriate crew out to fix the issue.
