Competitive pricing and high-speed offering
Hello Cox Community, I am a resident of Gainesville, Florida, and I’ve noticed that Pavlov Media is offering a 1 Gbps fiber internet service for $69. This has caught my attention and likely that of other community members due to its competitive pricing and high-speed offering. Given this development, I am curious to know if Cox Cable has any plans to offer similar or competitive pricing and speed upgrades for our area. Many of us are interested in understanding whether Cox is looking to enhance its service to match or exceed the value proposition presented by Pavlov Media. It would be great to get some insights into any upcoming plans that might benefit customers in our region who are seeking faster internet speeds at a reasonable price point. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Best regards, Daniel Sdsalazarsw21275 months agoNew Contributor102Views0likes2CommentsLet's Encrypt can't work on Cox
I just want to restate that Cox blocking port 80 started out as an "okay" idea for security but has become the exact opposite. All Cox-provided routers have a firewall, and the majority of people not using Cox hardware have their own firewall because that is their preference. In my case I want to use Let's Encrypt to provide certificates for my firewall, and Cox makes this impossible by blocking port 80. Please read up on the ACME spec and see if you can do something for it. Regards, Mike479Views2likes1Comment- Jludwig216 months agoNew Contributor33Views0likes0Comments
Cox service is making me lose my hair!!!
UPDATE 2/7: today the internet went out andas usual it happened in the same time like before. UPDATE 2/6: so I had a tech come in on Thursday [2/4] to look at the "issue" and they said that it was the POE filter and the splitter that was installed on the main line that's causing the disconnections. They said it was not up to spec with their network. Okay so they replaced it with their own as well as replaced the coax cables that's connected from the outlet to my modem. Today [2/6] I've now experienced a disconnection for 10 mins instead of a mere 1-2 mins prior to this "fix". So I pretty much spent $100 of my money just to get a worse network experience. I, and others in my household, rely on your network 24/7 not just for leisure but also for workand cannot have interruptions this severe. I am now contemplating on reporting this to the FCC the more issues I experience. I've been having issues everyday at the same timeframe with my gigablast. I've never had an issue before but so far it has started on the 2nd week of January to now and it had only worked without issue for two days straight last week.. My network connection would cut off multiple times around 11am-2pm everyday and whenever I ask assistance they would always tell me that they'll send out a tech to check my connection. I've factory reset my modem and router a million times, switched over to another coax port in the house, have tried having a direct connection from the main line to one coax port (no splitter), I've done having direct connection to the modem and all these steps have not resolved the issue. The website says that there are no outages, maintenance, service interruptions whatsoever but there clearly is. It seems Cox isn't as responsive unless it about bill pay. Customer Support would always pull a "let's have a tech come in to check your connection", no my connection isn't the issue, the residents in the vicinity is having the issue andCox doesn't seem to understand that. I've asked multiple times to check the main line that goes in our area but no one is sent to check it. There are multiple reports even on Downdetector of the same issue I'm experiencing.Mitch_Villa6 months agoNew Contributor II3.4KViews1like14CommentsCox email transition - has anyone completed the transition to Yahoo
Has anyone completed the email transition to Yahoo? It would be appreciated if any Cox customer would answer this question. I have been trying to get some information about when; and all I receive from Cox is we don’t know. In my opinion this response is unbelievable - a significant customer service change and the company’s help response team can’t provide an answer is unbelievable - implies a lack of transparency or worst. So that’s why I am calling out to any Cox customer and provide some feedback about the “actual” transition. I and many of us have received the preliminary emails about the future. Is anybody else in Tulsa having intermittent connection issues? For at least the last few months I have had internet drop for a minute or two and then work fine for awhile. Sometimes it affects TV as well. It seems to happen at the top of every hour and at other times. Since you can't call in a ticket or enter one online, your option is to use the worthless chat feature. Having a college student in the house as well as working from home has become a big issue. It may be time to get 5G internet and getting Dish for TV. I am paying $360.00 per month for an unreliable service. They always want to come into your home to test the signal strength and I tell them to test to the dmarc on the house first. In the last two years I have had my cable disconnected at the pedestal to open a port to connect a new customer. This happened late on a Friday and even though it was a Cox screw up I had to wait until Monday to get it resolved. Then the same thing happened again a week later.KDS6 months agoNew Contributor57Views0likes1CommentCox Email to Yahoo Android app

I was able to set up the Yahoo account. But while I am getting some emails, I am definitely not getting all emails. I checked and they are not in the spam folder or trash folder, and I have no filters or blocked address on Yahoo that could be causing the problem. In other words, while Yahoo is getting some of the emails sent to myadress@cox.net not all of them are getting to Yahoo. I definitely know that these emails were sent and the people sending them had my correct email address, but they are not all getting through to Yahoo for some reason. For example I got the email sent to me to complete my registration to this forum others have not even got to Yahoo and are not there in my Inbox, Trash, or Spam folder. iPhone & New Yahoo Email
I recently received the notice that my mailbox was transitioned, and I duly signed in to Yahoo to begin the process. The process seemed to complete correctly; my old messages seemed to all be there, though there were a few extra folders created. I went on my iPhone to remove the old Cox account and add the new Yahoo account. This also seemed to complete correctly, and I could see old messages begin to sync to my Mail app. That was this past Sunday. As of this morning, I seem to only have messages from the last 30 days in addition to messages through the end of 2019. Just now, I scrolled through the old message list to see it download 2019 through about 2021, but nothing else is there except for the last 30 days. Was this working as expected? Is there a limit to how many messsages my phone can retrieve from the server per day? All the emails are there when I log into mail.yahoo.com, they just don't seem to want to download. I haven't tried doing this on my Outlook desktop client yet...zept0sec6 months agoNew Contributor II690Views0likes2CommentsPremature success

First off, Cox is not my friend in the digital age or any other time. The slogan, which they undoubtably paid a fortune for, doesn’t mean jack when everything they do to their customers screams the opposite. Just days after the Cox-Yahoo! email disaster our internet has been down for the last 20 hours. Absolutely put the skids on an important project I can’t do anywhere else as all critical files are on my desktop system. My email is still not working right, of course, with about half of my emails not coming through. I know that many of you are just as angry and frustrated as I am. However, please don’t take this out on Cox rank-and-file employees. They are not the ones making these terrible decisions, it is management in Atlanta. That is where the C-level jackasses dwell, insulated from the fallout of their indefensible business practices. A perfect example is pawning us off to Yahoo! then washing their hands of the immense problems we continue to deal with as a result. Pleas be courteous and civil to the Cox rank/and-file. It Is not their fault. I’m sure many of them have the same level of contempt for Cox as we do.oberst6 months agoNew Contributor133Views0likes3CommentsCox when power goes out.

I moved into this house a little over a month ago and I have not been able to get even close to the speeds I'm paying for. I have the 1Gbps plan and can never exceed about 90Mbps. I have had no success with chat agents as none of them seem to understand what I'm saying. I even tried replacing the modem in case there was an issue with that but it's still the exact same problem. I finally had a technician out yesterday who replaced a line outside the house (which wasn't necessary and didn't do anything to fix the issue and now I have to wait two weeks for someone else to come bury it) and then said I would need a "maintenance tech" to check settings at the box outside my house (not sure why the first tech couldn't do it) and he said that tech would arrive by 7pm yesterday; however, no one ever showed up. I am at my wits' end trying to find someone who can both understand my issue and actually fix it. It should not be this hard to get what I'm paying for.Solveddmohr6 months agoNew Contributor211Views0likes2CommentsTurning off Two-Step Verification
Due to a weird set of circumstances I had to go to the local Cox store to regain access to my account online and, of course, my email. This was a lot of trouble and took quite some time but I eventually got everything back. Everything is essentially back to what it was... except for one thing: I would now get a prompt telling me to check my email for a code that I have to enter to complete the online log-in. This may be safer but I didn't have to do this before, and I really don't want the feature at this time. I got hold of a tech over the phone and explained the problem The tech then did something which turned off the Two-Step process for the main browser I use on my desktop computer to access my Cox account. The problem is that this apparently works on only one browser I use (in this case, Chrome). Other browsers, if I try to log in to my Cox account, still cause the Two-Step process to take place. What I'd like to know is how to turn the Two-Step off for at least one other browser. I haven't the faintest idea how the tech did this but she seemed to indicate I could do it myself. Any relevant information would be appreciated. Thanks.Vallant886 months agoNew Contributor100Views0likes4CommentsSerious Issue With Yahoo Mail
There is a serious problem with Yahoo mail. While I was bale to set up the Yahoo account I noticed that I was not getting all my emails and the "lost" emails were not in my Inbox, Trash or Spam folder and I did not have any filters and blocked addresses that could cause the problem. And, it seems there is at least one other person with the same issue. So I called Yahoo tech support and after much discussion and higher ups getting involved here is what I was told: I was told to contact the companies, or people, that I was not receiving the emails from and ask them to update their security settings and that there is nothing that Yahoo can do at its end as they won't accept emails from sources that don't meet Yahoo's security needs. I was told by the tech support person that it was my responsibility to get the problem solved not Yahoo's.RK5676 months agoNew Contributor II243Views0likes1CommentUdate on 'not getting all my mail'
I have really appreciated the comments and info above from users. I wrote a message about 10 days ago about receiving very little mail and no sent mail in the new Yahoo account. I think now, after review, that since I was using Thunderbird as a front end and using a POP server, the ‘missing’ mail and sent mail was obviously in the TBird account on my computer. Which I was worried that it would just be a static, frozen data file. Using the info I wrote down about the servers POP and smtp before the merger I wondered if I could merge the Cox-Yahoo new info into the existing account. (Rather than having TBird create a NEW second account for Cox-Yahoo). I opened my existing TBird account and went into the account settings and put in the POP and SMTP info for Yahoo. I had a few challenges since at first there was no OAuth2 in the choices in the drop down list. After a little fiddling around and some restarts of TBird and one trip to Yahoo, suddenly that choice appeared in the list and I was done and it works fine. So I wind up with all my mail and all my sent mail from before and all the new data from the Cox-Yahoo account in my 'new' original TBird account, my objective. My idea of modifying the existing TBird account was reinforced by several of the messages above, and thank you for that added info.phb13426 months agoNew Contributor III85Views1like1CommentArris SB8200 Questions

What is the deal with the constant downtime we are seeing? Almost every day now, sometimes multiple times a day (I think the other day there were 3 planned downtime events). The frustration with this is that it also occurs at times during the day when I am working remotely. I am dealing specifically with migrating cox.net e-mail from cox imap servers to yahoo imap servers and setting up the MacOS Mail application. Due to a variety of other complications with this specific use case, I am wondering if there is a glitch preventing a large portion of the messages from downloading to the computer, or if there is a just cap on how many messages or how much data is allowed to be synchronized via IMAP. I am dealing with an account with an exceptionally large mailbox. 13K+ unread messages in the inbox alone, and perhaps as many read messages. It’s a very old account. After successfully moving the cox.net e-mail address to yahoo and configuring the Mac Mail app to send and receive, the mailboxes were populated/synched over the course of the day and night, but only show about 5K unread and 9K read messages. I compared the Mac Mail inbox contents to the Yahoo webmail inbox by sorting first by newest first, and then by oldest first. The inboxes appear to include the same date range overall; it isn’t that the mail app only downloaded the most recent 9K messages. So. I haven’t yet figured out what messages are missing. With so many messages it is not going to be easy to look for what’s missing by just looking back and forth at both lists. To clarify, the messages are theoretically all accounted for in Yahoo webmail. At least, the quantities listed at the top match what the old Cox account had before the migration. But a huge portion of those messages are not being synchronized to the Mac Mail app. It would help if I had information about any limitations on Yahoo’s imap servers. I have no reason to question the settings for the e-mail servers. The account can send and receive new mail. I was even able to move a message from a different inbox (a different address configured in the same Mail app) into the Cox/Yahoo Inbox. Yahoo threw a warning that it could be nefarious since it was not added through yahoo’s mail servers, but it moved successfully and synchronized to the webmail inbox as expected. The issue seems to only involve existing messages from prior to the migration. I have no clue yet whether there is a pattern to what has been omitted since I haven’t figured out what’s missing. Is anybody else trying to migrate excessively large inboxes? (And please, don’t bother recommending a purge. That is in progress. The user is not ignoring the issue; it just takes time. I’m not seeking mail management advice. I’m asking for information to explain why not all of the messages are synchronizing to the Mail app from yahoo.) thanks for any help you can offer. cheers.Solvedrbeforee6 months agoNew Contributor III56Views0likes2CommentsWARNING: Yahoo hides spam from third-party email apps
Yahoo Email filters out their idea of spam into a Yahoo spam folder and never makes it visible to third-party email apps such as Mac Mail or Thunderbird. There is no way I've found to turn this off. Since the November 2023 billing cycle, I have been hit with ~ $70 of data overage charges each month. Our usage patterns have not varied for the past several years, in fact they actually appear lower during months everyone was home full time. I am also confident nobody is hijacking our wifi and none of the devices have malware. So, I followed the process and opened a ticket with support, which was of no help. They just kept referring me to the "data usage meter" report in my account portal and claimed it was accurate. I asked for a copy of specific traffic logs so I could audit accuracy and hopefully identify the root cause source device(s). They advised me that specific information wasn't captured. I asked how they could classify my traffic as "web browsing" versus "social media" versus "network management and testing" (according to their data meter) if they didn't have the specific data from their logging. They had no answer for that query. My next step was to register a complaint with my local utility regulator (PURA for Connecticut). Literally the day after I submitted my complaint (and included several other Cox forum posts indicating other customers with very similar issues), I received a call from a "Cox Escalation Specialist", who basically repeated the talking points from the original service call I opened. It appears PURA didn't do anything other than literally pass along a complaint to a utility they are supposed to regulate. Not happy with this development, I contacted my local State Senator's Office and asked them to intervene on my behalf. All I am asking for is specific and accurate data to support Cox' claim of excessive use. It seems like this is a concerted effort to dissuade customers from complaining in the hopes they will simply pay the recurring charges or upgrade to a more expensive unlimited data plan. If Cox can prove their claims of excessive usage, I will be happy to pay or upgrade without complaint, but until then, I don't plan to let this rest.seanpatrickryan6 months agoNew Contributor II492Views2likes16CommentsEMail not saving messages

Also present were my pre-existing folders that I had created under cox' control and the emails that had been in those folders just prior to the transition. What was missing were all of my "rules" and filters. So even though my folders were there, I was going to have to redo my rules in Yahoo. Your filter rules do not migrate over. I spent time in the yahoo web portal and it seemed fine for what it was. It has a good bulk email filter built in and marking email as spam is simple and effective. Better than my experience with Cox. However I was quickly turned off by the fact that I was going to have to build out all of my rules again - I probably had over 100. Yahoo has a rules/filter maximum of 500. HERE IS WHERE IT ALL WENT WRONG. I went back into Outlook where Email Account #2 lives. All of the emails and folders were still there but the account settings had Cox' SMTP/IMAP configs. I was curious if I could still use Outlook and not Yahoo's portal. I went into the email settings and moved them over to Yahoo's. I made sure to give it the new password and used port 465 with all of the boxes checked. It connected without issue and started to sync. Then at the end of the sync ALL OF MY CUSTOM FOLDERS WERE GONE. Not only the folders, but any emails that were in those folders were gone too. The only emails left were those that happen to be sitting in the "Inbox" main directory but not anything that was in a subfolder under InBox. Even more interesting is the fact that all of my Rules/Filters in Outlook are still present. So as it downloads more email, I get Outlook errors regarding the fact that there is no longer a folder to move an email too that matches the rule it finds. So your rules in Outlook remain but after syncing the folders disappear, even though they had made the initial migration when you opened your InBox in Yahoo. GOOD NEWS THOUGH..... After crying at Oulook that no longer had my folders and emails, I logged back into Yahoo via the webportal. EVERYTHING IS THERE! My custom folders, the emails in them, everything. So it looks like for those of you in a similar spot, in Outlook after the sync, you will need to recreate your customer folders using the exact spelling and capitalization that you had before so that the filter rules can apply correctly. It is going to take a chunk of your day per email address to bring yourself back to a functional state. Everything I did was at a desktop computer with multiple monitors and space to manipulate lots of windows. Do not do this on a cell phone or tablet. I do not have any insight on the Yahoo app and have no plans to use that. Thunderbird and other email clients may produce a different result and experience for some of you. Best Wishes to you all during this transition time.muse53816 months agoNew Contributor196Views1like0CommentsInternet Outage
My internet has been down since last Thursday, 4/18/24. Can’t get any real response for why and estimated date of repair. All I get every morning is the following text: UPDATE: We're sorry this complex network issue is taking longer than expected to resolve. Rest assured, a dedicated team is actively working to restore consistent service. We apologize again for the inconvenience and will continue to provide daily text updates. Anybody have any answers or knowledge of what’s going on?rwbabb6 months agoNew Contributor54Views0likes1Comment
