Successful COX to Yahoo email transition with Thunderbird
Before you start the transition, it is useful to have a separate email from another provider for testing purposes since once you start the process there is no going back and nothing will be working for a awhile. When I got the ready to go email from coxI assumed it would be days before the service would stop. My cox accounts stopped working the next day, so get on with it already. On my PC I had Thunderbird as my POP email client and wanted to keep this. I like having my emails stored locally where they can easily be backed up. I initiated the email account transition on the yahoo mail page by entering the existing cox email address, password andgenerating a new yahoo password. The birthday you enter can be anything but it can't be changed later. Write everything down. This created a new yahoo email account with the old cox address. I was able to use the Yahoo webmail interface to access the new account, and immediately received emails from yahoo. I tested sending and receiving with my 3rd party email, and after some delay these initial emails went through also.I was able to edit my default first name, last name and preferred name on the yahoo account personal info page. So much for webmail. To get Thunderbird working I was able change my existing POP and SMTP server settings without deleting or creating a new account: pop.cox.net -> pop.mail.yahoo.com , (SSL/TLS and port 995 unchanged) smtp.cox.net -> smtp.mail.yahoo.com, (SSL/TLS and port 465 unchanged) In these same tbird dialogs, my old cox username had not included the '@cox.net', so I added that (two places). My existing password authentication setting didn't work when using the new yahoo password, so I changed both pop and smtp authentication to OAuth2. Once I did the yahoo password dialog popped up and I completed the login and connected with the yahoo servers. Still some things to tailor but basic email with tbird is working.Tcox4 months agoNew Contributor II2KViews4likes14CommentsGobsmacked at the Unlimited Lie.. It's not even hidden
Since the ACP is ending prices have gone up significantly and now the word unlimited is in the top line of every internet plan that Cox sells but if you scroll to the bottom of that offer you will find a data cap and an insane amount of overage charges if you go over 1.28 terabytes this is just it's sad. Hey everyone, I am a new customer to Cox. We could not find the port to plug our modem into and no one on the phone could tell us where it was or what it looked like so they sent out a technician. They also said that they can never remove charges unless you pay for Cox Care Connect. Can anyone help me figure out if there is a way to file a complaint or dispute this claim? I initiated Cox service 10 months ago. Everything was fine until about a month or two ago when the Internet would go out intermittently. Recently, the frequency of outages has increased. Tech visited today and verified signal strength was within specs. Motorola MB8611 (Cox-certified) modem, direct line from street to modem (no splitters etc). I logged into the modem to review the connection and event log. Signal strength looks OK. But event log shows continuous type 16 FEC errors with around 1 - 2 min intervals. OFDM/OFDMA Profile ID: 0 1 2 3 and 0 2 3. Followed within around 20 sec by type 24 recovery. My interpretation (please correct me if I am wrong) for these errors is that there was a burst of noise on the line that produced errors causing the modem to temporarily switch to a more robust OFDM profile, followed by the modem switching back to the original profile after the noise was cleared up. There is a direct connection from the street to my modem (no couplers, splitters, amplifiers etc). The interior house coax cable is in in good shape, with home built in 2002. The tech that originally installed the modem cut back the co-ax before crimping on a Cox-approved male co-ax end. The power supply for the modem is plugged directly into the mains (no surge protector). This issue affects my ability to work from home. Any suggestions what needs to be done to rectify this ? I used to call about it, but I received lipservice with no real help. I am sick to death of this lack of reliability! I don't know why all of the Internet providers are so inconsistent with their service. I have tried at least three different ones in the last couple of years, and they all let me down. I thought Cox was going to be different, but apparently they're no better than some of the others. It seems like that Cox would know that the middle of the night isn't the time to disrupt everything for everyone. Perhaps they could ask people when is the better time to have an interruption, but the interruptions shouldn't be multiple times throughout the night! Surely they know that some security reset systems rely upon the Internet being on! Does anybody out there have any answers, and Cox are you listening?
