So. we had Cox services a few years ago and are switching back. Received the new modem by UPS that we tried to hook up and cannot. For some reason you get shocked when you touch the modem. Had an electrician out along with our power company and both say there is nothing wrong with my house and that it is on Cox. The weird part about this is that there is no voltage in the coax but when you connect it to the modem you get 33 volts on a voltage reader.Something is not right here....Waiting on the tech to come out.JSummers2 years agoNew Contributor312Views0likes6CommentsRegular connection drops
So, this looks like a pretty common issue with Cox internet. My connection drops for 10 seconds to a minute or two multiple times most hours...double digits daily. I just spoke with Gerard, who claimed to be a supervisor in Cox tech support who after a few minutes of troubleshooting recommended I call the manufacturer for the Cox modem/router. ...Seriously? I call Cox tech support for an issue the forums are flooded with and I'm told I have to call an entirely different company before they'll send a tech out. I called him out on it and asked why that was necessary if I was talking with a supervisor with Cox internet and his response was to pretend the call dropped. "Hello? Hello? I had a tech visit last week to try and fix a jack. The coax in the jack turned out not to be Cox, so nothing was done with that. The tech did some work out on the box, and ever since the visit, my router drops the internet connection every few hours and shows this message in the system logs: IGD[14598]: igd.info Eventing:PhysicalLinkStatus=Down This is extremely frustrating. How can I fix this issue? My only thought was to factory reset the router and see what happens, but I can't help but think there was something done at the box to screw this up. I previously had practically zero service interruptions, and now I lose it so often, it's very disruptive. EDIT: Wanted to add, after reading some other threads with similar issues, the tech did fix the jack where the router is connected. The jack was separated from the wall with another cable coming out, as well, and he cleaned that up. Just in case that might have caused an issue.barrettd2 years agoNew Contributor II550Views0likes7CommentsHas there been a security breech?

COMPLETE LOCKOUT TO ALL COX DOMAINS-- COX.COM, COX.NET, MYEEMAIL.COX.NET
My Android streaming devices have been blocked from the Internet for several months. I've also been locked out of all COX domains for several months, even though I've been making my high monthly payments. I've received 403 Access Denied, Error 15, Error 16, but no help is accessible. It seems that they do not want me to make my online payments, but this is just not right because I have a mobility disability that makes it difficult to drive to the store to make a payment. I also had to change all of my important contacts to a different email address because I haven't been able to access my emails. It's still hit and miss as to whether I can connect. But, no compensation has been given. They've even charged back an ACP discount of $30! The reliability of COX WiFi is NOT worth the monthly pricetag associated with it. I've had internet service interruptions as long as 2 hours, and on a very consistent basis, I loose connectivity for short periods of time. I set up a script to run on my computer that would just ping one of Google's servers every 8 seconds, log when the pings started failing, and log when they started succeeding again. This gave me a good idea of how frequently and how long I would loose service, even when it wasn't immediately interfering with whatever I was doing (which it has, so frequently that I decided to write the script in the first place) and my findings showed that throughout the week, there were on average 34 service interruptions, most of them about 16-48 seconds long, but some as long as 10 minutes. Very frequently, I will be playing multi-player games, and just randomly get disconnected. I'll be watching a video or listening to music while I study, and I loose connection. I reiterate, THIS SERVICE IS NOT WORTH THE PRICETAG! And I would strongly advise anyone considering this ISP to just move along to your next option.Inconspicuousus2 years agoNew Contributor654Views0likes9CommentsCan Cox modem interfer with email clients?
We replaced our gateway panoramic modem a couple of weeks ago and my brother has since been having trouble getting Yahoo emails using Thunderbird. He had no trouble with it before we replaced the modem he and can't figure out why.. The last time I was able to receive email from my Yahoo account in an email client program (I have Thunderbird, Vivaldi and Claws) was May 3, and the old modem died on the 4th. Since installing the new modem I keep getting a timeout error connecting to imap.mail.yahoo.com I've been exploring the account settings in the programs, my Yahoo profile, and searching Google for any reports of similar issues within the past two weeks. I primarily use my Linux desktop at home but I also tried my Winddows 10 laptop and got the same results. Just now I started Thunderird while at work and it works here without changing any settings. I don't know how/why the modem can be blocking Yahoo email specifically. I can still use the Yahoo websites and webmail without any problem. Two days ago my home internet went out 4 times in a period of about an hour. To summarize: I checked my signal levels and signal to noise ratios and they were good. I checked my event log and saw several T2 and T3 timeouts, which is unusual. When I went to the Cox site (via phone after turning off the wifi) I saw the notice that there was an issue in my area, so I signed up for text updates. (I didn't get any this time.) Everything cleared shortly. I offer this reinforce the importance of being diligent getting a good connection to your modem, and becoming reasonably proficient at checking your signal levels and logs, and using the available tools. The vast majority of problems I have had with Cox internet have been cable/connector related. There are periods when the internet goes down, apparently for service, but it's almost always between 2am and 6am so it doesn't cause us any significant issues. When there is a real network problem at Cox, I have had the positive experience of it being pretty easy to tell and Cox usually has a notice up by the time I've done my basic troubleshooting. A power outage/blip can disrupt service in unpredictable ways, so I make a point of restarting all my key devices when that happens. I'm not saying Cox is perfect, but by using the approach above, I have had very stable service and haven't tried to call into the customer service line in years. I recognize the challenges in working with agents and prefer to avoid it. If something really requires "in person" action, I make sure I go to the local service center, transact my business, and make sure I leave with a printout of any service changes or pricing changes. Being methodical helps keep things calm.Lovemylab2 years agoContributor III289Views0likes3CommentsReally?
