If OP is to invest, stop renting and buy a better router.
what you fail to tell numerous folks about buying their own modem/router, they need to be there own tech support!!
before too long, phones older than 6-series won't connect.
What tech support does Cox provide for a Panoramic router? If any...or at most...Cox will allow a subscriber to swap the Pano, but Cox can't access the router to review your settings, troubleshoot and make changes. Even though you rent a Pano, you have to troubleshoot your network.
The age of a device is irrelevant. As long as a device supports at least 802.11a or 802.11b, a router will connect it. It's the networking protocol to consider...not age of a device. The only problems I've read about "old equipment" is with Panoramic, and I think it may have to do with channel width, encryption or something. I don't know. I don't rent one.
no tech support needed, if cox reboot doesn't resolve the issue i head to cox store for swap.
yes it is relevant. just like my older dell laptops that also have the bgn capability, they don't connect to the pano unit.
i just connected an even older iphone4, which won't connect to the pano unit but connects to the older router like the dell laptops.
this goes back to my 1st comment to the op...GET A NEW PHONE!!
I believe you inadvertently proved my point.
First, swapping a router isn't tech support. It's just a luck-of-the-draw...or swaptronics. You're returning a scribbled-in schoolbook in hopes the teacher will issue you a less scribbled-in one. Panoramic has its limitation because it doesn't allow you tweak fundamental settings to optimize your wireless environment. Is it true there is no QoS in Panoramic? What choices of channel width do you get with Panoramic? Why isn't Panoramic compatible with older devices?
I don't think you understand protocols. All current versions...HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, UHD...are backward compatible with previous versions. In particular, an ac-router is backward compatible with a g-device as well as an ac-device is backward compatible with a g-router. However, in Panoland, there is some law banning this compatibility. If you bought a regular ac-router, it'd connect your Dells.
