Why is Cox email marking acceptable email as "Spam"?

I have Spam filtering off but emails that are not spam are being tagged as "Spam". Why? How can I stop this?

  • taffeys,

    no.  you're not alone. i now have to check my spam folder 3 times a day.  and telling it "this is not spam,"  downloading it to my mail client so i could forward it...with full headers...to "thisisnotspam" was doing no good.  i hope you have actually looked at what's in the blocked sites, not just assumed that because you didn't set anything up...nothing's there.  that would be logical, but a phone teck walked me thru the settings and we found that cox had set a whole page of blocked addresses...most of which i did not recognize & none of which i had put there.  including paypal, amazon, ebay...why would i block that at christmas? i guess i need to look again aas i have been telling cox the "toys for tots" is not spam! among others i receive frequently...always in my spam box. so be sure you looked.  it's cox.  never assume logic!

    So this is Cox's response to the escalation of my Cox --SPAM-- email issues:

    Hello, this is Jim with cox communications calling in regards to a ticket. That was submitted here for some of your emails being marked as spam if you don't have any rules or anything set up there it may just be that the senders have a high spam ranking with the company that we use that monitor that type of thing if you mark those as not spam that should help with their spam score and lower that down eventually you can also set up a filter rule to send the specified emails to your inbox instead of your spam folder. If that's where they're going if you need help setting that up go do this call back at 866-867-7644. Thank you

    The emails that Cox has identified as --SPAM-- include the domains judicialwatch.org, shoprunner.com, walmart.com, breitbart.com, cox.com, dell.com, senate.ca.gov, ci.oceanside.ca.us, prolifealliance.org, marketwatchmail.com, dailycaller.com.

    You tell me how any of these "senders have a high spam ranking with the company that we use that monitor that type of thing".

    This new Cox email system is worthless. So you tell me why I am paying Cox ~$200 a month for this garbage. And you cannot opt-out of their email scanning/monitoring.

  • @Tafeys,

    Organizations such as those are typically filtered out as spam due to customer experience. I am truly sorry for this inconvenience.

    @Allen

    Did you notice that cox.com and senate.ca.gov were filtered out as spam?

    Will you turn-off all filtering on my account?

    My firewall can do a much better job than your new system.

  • @Taffeys,

    The domains that you have listed will continue to be filtered as spam as ling as customers continue to report them as such. Sadly, we do not have a way to turn off that filter.

    @Allan,

    Please advise the progress of the ticket created last month, the reference number is CUI000005832815.

  • Hello Taffeys, Checking on that ticket you have submitted. It has been closed stating options would be to mark such emails as "not spam" or to create a rule sending any emails from these accounts to route to your inbox.

    Really?

    First, tell me how I am supposed "to mark such emails as "not spam"" on the Cox webmail client.

    Second, how would creating a rule to send emails that Cox has tagged as --SPAM-- to my inbox do anything to resolve the problem? I have no rules set-up on Cox webmail so all emails are delivered to my email client.

    TiffanyR,

    I have determined that your instructions are inaccurate. As I have stated earlier I do not have any filtering rules set-up so all of my emails arrive in the Webmail inbox. On an email in the Inbox that Cox is tagged as --SPAM-- if I go to the hamburger menu the only option is "Mark as spam". If I mark such email as spam, it is moved to the Spam folder. Then when I go to the hamburger menu the option to mark it as not spam exists and if I click on that option it moves the email back to the inbox.

    So does this do anything about the incorrect --SPAM-- tagging of emails? Does forwarding such incorrectly tagged email to thisisnotspam@cox.net result in such email not being tagged in the future? I have already forwarded over 100 incorrectly tagged emails to thisisnotspam@cox.net.
