Inconsistent Upload Speeds Causing Excessive Dropped Frames When Streaming to Twitch.TV
I recently moved back to my home town and Cox is the only ISP in the area that offers decent speeds. I am currently getting 150Mbps/10Mbps speeds via various speed tests. Ever since I've been on this service, I have been plagued with issues broadcasting to Twitch.TV, something I do on the side for a hobby/petty cash. I have done all the troubleshooting a person can do and have talked to more representatives at Cox than anyone would care to! I am so relieved to hear I am not the only person experiencing this. I am a Senior Systems Engineer by trade, I deal with major ISPs and networks on a daily basis. I have even taken a router to test with that retails at over $5,000.00 to prove that it was not my hardware. I have replaced modems, tried different NICs, you name it, I've done it. This is most certainly, beyond any shadow of doubt, and issue with the ISP (Cox). Whether they are purposely "throttling" this traffic or they are just overselling their mediocre service, this needs to be addressed! I am growing rather irritated at the fact that no rep nor technician can pinpoint these issues or even explain them. I am quite certain there are very competent personnel working at Cox that should be able to pinpoint this. It is basic UDP traffic, not that complex. Any other insights, suggestions, rants, testimonies, gripes, wines, or any other constructive chat on this would be greatly appreciated!2.4KViews0likes3CommentsUnstable Internet - 5 technicians later
Here's a post I put on Facebook seeking help. I post it here because it summarizes the situation: Do I know anyone who knows someone with some sort of authority at Cox Communications? We have had unstable internet speeds (upload speed in particular) since day one of living in our new place (September 29th). We have had 5 technicians out (they're as tired of coming out as I am of having them), I've talked to support (tier one, tier two, and supervisors of said teams) 30+ times easily. They've told me that maintenance (a separate team from technicians, maintenance works on the network while techs only work from the house to the street) was working known issues at a node on three occasions, all three being marked as resolved while my instability remains. I'm lost on how to actually get it fixed or who I need to talk to make it happen. We're supposed to pay for 300down / 30up...70% of the time our upload speed is between 0-4mbps. Unfortunately, Verizon FiOS seems to be available in several neighborhoods nearby but not at our house or else we'd have switched already. Anyone? I have swapped out one panoramic modem/router combo for another. Didn't solve. I have purchased a modem recommended from a reputable source, and although it did drastically reduce my "worst" ping on my tracerts, it did not solve the problem. (I was getting a worst of 184 on my OWN home network with the panoramic and the highest I saw was around 50 on the new modem). So we can rule out a modem issue. The technicians have dropped a new line and bured it, they've replaced basically every cable we have. I have many screenshots of the instability. I will post some below, but have lots more on my desktop at home that I will be adding. My internets performance looks like a seismograph of the worlds worst earthquake. Let me point out in many of these photos of the graphs for broadcasting..I'm only running 4,000 to 4,500 kbps bitrate. This is only 4mbps -> 4.5mbps...We're supposed to have 30. Then when you consider the "minimum bitrate" that its registering during this instability you see numbers like 210kbps (see first photo)...on other occasions (and in photos I will provide when I get home) we drop to 0...we lose upload 100%. Here's what's happened over the last 2 hours at my house where we're not even using the internet except to look at this log of its stability: Here's some screenshots over the last month or two:2.1KViews0likes2CommentsPerfect download really low upload
I have been having upload issues for months now and have not had steady upload speeds since i upgraded my service. The package i have is 300/30 and the actual speeds sit around 325-300 download to 5-7 upload speeds on speedofme.com the speeds tested on ookla have been false always showing 300/25 upload when its really not. I've had about 5 techs within 3 months saying its a tap issue and schedule maintenance to fix the problem and give it 24-72 hrs to be fixed. As always my upload speed goes up for a day and goes up to 25-30 and then crashes down to 5-7 until i schedule another tech to get it up to the advertised speeds. We have switched modems, tested on other pc's the results come out also to add i never go over the data cap and tested modem for packet loss came up clean.Im thinking my upload speeds are getting throttled i never get a straight answer from a tech or a rep very frustrating. Speed history over the week.2.1KViews0likes4Commentsatrociously inconsistent upload speeds as well as connection to twitch.
Hey everyone, I've been a cox customer for 3 years now, and I am a affiliate twitch streamer who is just starting to grow my channel in hopes of doing this full time. Now up until about 4 months ago I was streaming to twitch using the premier package and had no problems, then we had a slew of problems in my apartment complex that effected multiple tenants have EXTREMELY low upload (like less than 1 mbps). During this time I tried many many solutions (including upgrading to the ultimate package) however since then, the speeds seem to have leveled out a bit (only on speedtest.net, still a little inconsistent on other tests) and NOW my streaming to twitch is horrendous, I can only dream of streaming at the quality I used to, something seems to be interfering with my connection to twitch and also my upload in general seems all over the place. I've tried BRAND NEW hardware, I've had multiple technicians come out here and tell me that YES there is something wrong but they can't figure it out, even a supervisor came out and told me the same thing this last Thursday. I have spoke with possibly hundreds of different reps and to no avail. I NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS, I am paying for a service from you guys for a reason and I can no longer use the reason I'm paying for this service any longer. The customer service from you guys have been atrocious, constantly giving me the run around, this has been almost 5 months now I've had this same exact problem with NO help, I've had technicians come out BACK to BACK and all tell me that I have a problem but they don't know what to do. now here is a post on reddit with multiple people who have the SAME exact issue as me https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/4cmxau/cox_is_throttling_customers_who_stream_on_twitch/ here are some of my speedtests: http://testmy.net/db/cesKgYxOW http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6643836876 http://speedof.me/show.php?img=170921181400-3969.png Now I can upload a test directly from my xbox and my ps4 as well if you'd like and they will show uploads that fluctuate from 7-12. even speedtest seems to fluctuate from like 20-30, but like I said my upload is VERY inconsistent, I had a supervisor named walter that was here last thursday and he understood what twitch is (unlike everyone else I have spoken to) and he plugged directly into my line and said that my uploads were low and even he had no clue what to do. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM IT IS NOT SOMETHING ON MY END.10KViews0likes16CommentsDownload fine, upload too low
For about a week now, my upload speed has been intermittently too low. Sometimes as high as 30 up, which is fantastic, but mostly it is about 1 or 2 up. Numerous calls and chats to support and two onsite techs later I have all new cabling to the box outside from my modem, upgraded my account, bought new modem and new router at the recommendation of various techs. Some techs have said I must RENT the modem from them (bill keeps going higher and higher in direct proportion to speed going lower and lower it seems). This is first time this has happened in 17 years with Cox cable. At $100 a month for 17 years I have wasted $20K on watching TV and going on the internet. Imagine if I had put that in my 401K instead.1KViews0likes1CommentEmail via Outlook and Droid Stopped Working
My username and password ARE CORRECT in OUTLOOK. However the Cox server will NOT dowload to my OUTLOOK account on my desk top. THis failure all started recently, nothing has changed on my end, password reset does NOT work nor apply. I can log directly into WEBMAIL on COx, but the COx server will don't download messages to OUTLOOK. WHat the heck ????? Forum: Internet Forum Posted: 19 Feb 2016 Post Subject: Email via Outlook and Droid Stopped Working Post author: Trebor My primary email addresses recently stopped working in Outlook and on my Droid phone. I have a few other Cox emails that continue working fine. All settings are exactly the same for each email. I've tried customer service, but all they do is reset my password and tell me that will fix it. Nothing is working. I can access my primary email through Cox Webmail with no problem, but I need access to it in Outlook and my phone. Is anyone else experiencing this?0Views0likes0CommentsSlow real time upload speed - conflicting speed test results
I'm experiencing slow real time upload speeds. The speed test on Cox website have conflicting results. I've had 8 techs out to my house over the last 4 months and the issue has not been resolved. I am experiencing the same exact issues as user noah82. We are both in Arizona. Here is his thread. http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/13025.aspx9.3KViews0likes34CommentsErratic Internet Service with slow speeds
Been experiencing problems with this Cox Premier Internet using a DN4500B. I connect my MBP wirelessly. The speed test results are 82.76Mbps DL and 17.13Mbps UL. Many times I have to reset either the modem and/or my MBP. My TV is wired and outages are experienced that may last anywhere from a second to a few seconds. Please advise.1.2KViews0likes1CommentStreaming (Dropped Frames); Upload Speeds seem lower than usual
Since Friday and until now I've been having some issues with my upload speed. I try to stream on OBS studio and I've been getting lots of dropped frames. I've tried to restart both my router and modem, update the ethernet device, and checked the firmware which is up to date. When I speed test on the COX site, it says it's fine. The normal range of what I'm paying 150/10. But when I test on testmy.net it's telling me I'm getting 1-2 and also ookla says I'm fine with my upload. I've tried to stream on both YouTube and Twitch and I'm still dropping frames. I've researched to see if there's a solution and most say to bring it up with my internet provider. I didn't have this issue until Friday. I currently pay for 150/10. I have a Netgear CM500 Modem and an ASUS RT-AC66U Router.1.6KViews0likes1Comment
