Download Speeds Not As Advertised
New Netgear C6250; Cat 5E hardwired to switch. Pay for 100 MB/SEC service; here are my speeds: Note: Only twice in the last 3 months have I ever gotten close to 100 MB downloads. Here are some representative samples: 12-11; 11:02 pm: 15.59 12-4; 11:00 pm: 52.19 12-2; 11:41 pm: 26.64 11-9; 7:18 pm: 28.82 Not much point in going on, my speeds in the evening range from a low of 15.59 MB/Sec to 59 MB/sec. The average hovers around 35 MB/sec download. I feel cheated and duped by COX as I pay almost $ 100/month for internet that never even comes close to the advertised speeds. Also, my service goes away at least once a week, it just goes "poof"; no more internet. Too bad Cox is the only service available at my location. How (if at all) can I get this rectified?810Views0likes1CommentInternet disconnection
Hi, my internet recently started to disconnect many times, especially when I was playing Dota2. The wifi was also unavailable when the router disconnected. So I went to Cox store and exchanged my router and reinstalled the Windows on my desktop. But nothing changed. I got disconnected yesterday while playing Dota2. Please help.991Views0likes1CommentProblems with New Cox Webmail interface
First, the new webmail loads EXTREMELY slow! I have tried from different computers at different locations, and it is always SLOW. If I use the new link "myemail.cox.net", some of my accounts do not load at all after I log-in )I just get three blinking circles). I am using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11. I found by accident that if I use "in-private browsing", then the other accounts will load (but still slow). How do I fix so I can just log-in normally? After getting logged in (If I get that far): 1 - Nowhere on the page does it tell me which account I am logged-in on. It used to say "log out Joe's email", for example. 2- All the messages are listed on one page. There is no way to Delete a specific message without opening it. If I click on it, it opens. There is no Check-Box like there used to be, so I can select and delete all the Spam at once. Only option is one-at-a-time, or "select all". Overall, I see absolutely no improvement with this new system. Please reinstate the old one that worked fine for years (except for the poor service between Feb and May of this year)24KViews0likes16CommentsInternet goes out every afternoon at the same time.
I see many people are having this same issue but since I actually signed up to reply, this forum will only let me report abuse (what's with that?) I am seeing several with the same router/gateway, all have been on about 1 to 2 years. Netgear CG 3000d. My Internet goes out every afternoon around 1:30 PM. I can almost set the clock by this but it has been slowly getting later each day (been happening for a couple of months now.) They keep wanting to send someone out but since they can only give me a two hour window of when the might show up, that isn't going to help much. It makes no difference if I go through the entire reboot sequence, it just comes back on by itself, usually about 20 minutes but it was an hour the few week it started happening. I tried turning the modem off, first for a couple of hours, then for a week when I was on a trip. Can anyone give me a good explanation of how/why my modem could be doing this? I have it plugged directly in to the wall, I will try another outlet but that doesn't make any sense either.4.7KViews0likes5CommentsCan't Monitor Data Usage
I brag about you guys a lot. But enough is enough. Why can't I see which account is using the most data? That's completely stupid. I had Cox for months now, and my usage has always been under 50%. Now all of a sudden, one day I use 339GB of data, and I can't see what device is using the most. I had an ASUS router which could break down the device, but the "top of the line" modem/router cannot do that? This is just dumb. Then one logging in to the modem, there are no logs. Any technical person knows that logs are the first thing you look for. As a "leader" in the digital age, I would imagine that you guys will check logs constantly, but if your PAYING consumers can't, then what's the point? The reason I stopped using my router was because it was getting hot, so I switch to the combo router, but it seems I must go back to the ASUS router and track my data. One of my devices could have went rouge, and I would not know. I'm in IT, so the first thing I check is logs, and since your phone technicians couldn't tell me the "password of the day" I am completely dissatisfied. All I was told is "change your password." IT'S THE DEFAULT PASSWORD ON THE MODEM! If no one else has access to my house then no one should be able to crack a WPA2 password...unless the modem is vulnerable. So please, get this fix, add this feature. It's no used to seeing if a device is connected, I can't do anything about it, BECAUSE YOU CAN'T BLOCK THE CONNECTION!!! If I change my password, then I have to change everything, and that's a completely hassle. I do NOT want a credit, I just want to know which device is using data so I can check on it. Because how can I trust YOUR amount, when you can’t PROVE that I used this amount? I’m just so frustrated. I pay $100 a month for the top tier service, and I get treated like I don’t matter.1.2KViews0likes1CommentUpgraded Premier to Ultimate, SB6141 to SB6183. Speed went down!
I recently upgraded to Ultimate (300down), and got a refurbished SB6183 16x4 modem to be able to get the speeds up. I was getting about 80down on Premier before the switch on my SB6141, but when I installed and activated the SB6183, I was only getting about 30down! I called and talked to tech support, and they didn't know what the issue was. I decided to return that modem and got a new 6183 instead in case the refurb was bad. Installed/activated it today, and got a Cat 6 cable to go to my router (E1200), and I'm still only getting about 40-50 down, sometimes as low as 25. Upload seems fine, from 25-35. It looks like I'm bonding to 16 channels down, which is good. I'm at a loss. A tech on the phone said it could take a few days for it to get up to speed, but it still seems wrong. I tried hardwiring to a laptop, and only got a marginal bump in speed. Was going to set up a technician appointment, but they said it could be $75 -- but said they won't know till the tech comes, because it's the tech who decides if it's my fault or not, basically. Ugh. Any ideas? Image uploader was being weird, so modem stuff here: http://imgur.com/a/jFWxG1.3KViews0likes2CommentsCan't send e-mail using Outlook, Mail (OS10.11.6) or Mail (iOS)
Okay, please bear with me cause this post will be somewhat long. Problem in a nutshell: I haven't been able to send e-mails since June 1st, 2017. I've chatted online with two tech reps, and today I discussed the issue on the phone with a fellow named Ron. Here's some info from the second online chat: Dear Cox, I chatted with one of your tech reps yesterday regarding my inability to send e-mails. After a lot of back & forth re: making sure that I had the correct POP e-mail account settings, she eventually found out and then told me that Cox was in the process of updating their “e-mail platform,” and that I should try again in a few hours. Could you please update me re: the status of this; it’s a day later and I’m still unable to send e-mails. Here’s the background info re: my issue: I am currently not able to send outgoing mail, although I was able to send mail on May 30th. I’m using Outlook 2011 as my e-mail client. My OS is El Capitan 10.11.6. I’m able to receive messages. I believe I have the correct POP settings as specified on your website page “Cox Email Server Settings.” When attempting to send an e-mail I get the following error: fed1rmimpo209.cox.net cox connection refused from 68.6.118.7 It’s very strange that I was able to send e-mails up to May 30th, but not able to June 1st. Please advise and update; any assistance and new info would be greatly appreciated! After waiting a day with no feedback or resolution, I started another chat, opening dialog as follows: Hello, there’s been an ongoing problem with me not being able to send e-mails using Outlook 2011 on my Mac-Mini (El Capitan, 10.11.6). I’ve chatted with several people to date, and have confirmed that I have the correct POP settings for my Cox account. The last person I spoke with submitted a support ticket, and said I’d have a reply within 48 hours; the support ticket was issued on June 2nd and I have yet to hear from anyone, so I’m starting to get somewhat frustrated. I’d greatly appreciate if you could get me an update. The problem started on June 1st. I was able to send e-mails before that date without any problems. Please help! I was eventually told that the problem was with Cox's servers and that the issue would be resolved within 24 hours. 48 hours later, I'm still not able to send e-mails. So today, I called Cox and had a long discussion with the aforementioned Ron. We did a lot of tests, tried different port settings, etc. and he came to the conclusion that the problem was with my Outlook application (which I was doubtful of, but heck, I'm no techie). I decided to test Ron's theory and did a test run using my Mac's Mail Application, which to date I hadn't used. Not surprisingly, I was unable to send e-mails using Mac Mail either! Again, I tried various outgoing server settings, all with the same negative results. Just to take it one step further, I attempted to set up the Mail program on my iPad, which to date I'd never used. This also failed, giving me the following message: "The SMTP server "smtp.cox.net" is not responding; etc, etc. While doing all these tests I also performed extra steps like taking Outlook and Mail offline after making account changes, deleting outbox messages and creating new ones for testing, etc. Which leads me to the conclusion that there is indeed something wrong on Cox's end, as I was originally told during my second online chat. I'm hoping someone on this forum can provide some insight, as I'm going a bit crazy not being able to send e-mails, and Cox support has been useless to date. I may have to start using Cox's Web Mail application to send e-mails (which works) but I'd really prefer to use my desktop's Outlook application! Any help and insights will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, David6.4KViews0likes10CommentsNew SB8200 - improper provisioning
I just purchased and installed a new Arris SB8200 for use at my home to replace an aging SB6120. I followed the installation instructions and I called cox customer service to register the new modem via it's SN and MAC address. The modem is connected and I'm able to connect to the internet. But here's the problem... My download speeds are horrendously slow now. Immediately before I disconnected the SB6120, I ran a speed test and I was getting in excess of my current plan speeds. ~60Mbps down and about 7-8Mbps up. Now, the same test yields around 10Mbps or less down and, at times, really high upload speeds around 20-30 Mbps. I have checked all of the signal levels reported by the modem webpage and they all appear nominal. It also appears that all 32 download channels have been bonded and 4 upload channels are bonded (see bottom). Here's a current speed test report from the cox website. as you can see horrendously slow on the download side which is less than 10% of what I should be receiving. Test Results Download Upload 4 Mbps 6 Mbps My Internet Plan COX INTERNET PREFERRED Download Upload 50 Mbps 5 Mbps Speed Test Results Device Type Latency desktop 31 ms IP Address Test Server So what gives? I know that many other cox users including those in Phoenix and elsewhere in AZ have reported that this modem works as advertised when provisioned. Has mine been provisioned improperly? I know from other users of the modem that the firmware version being pushed out by COX and other providers is at least one or more revisions older than the modem's current firmware revision which is: Software Version D31CM-PEREGRINE-1.0.0.2-GA-01-NOSH Why is my quality of service all of a sudden negatively impacted by upgrading my modem (which is something Cox want's you to do every few years) to the latest model which is officially supported by Cox? As a long time cox customer going back 17 years, this is not meeting my expectation of performance and service currently. :-( I am not connecting to the modem wirelessly, but through a wired Ethernet connection. I have tried connecting directly to my PC and through my router and the results are exactly the same. Don't know if this is the correct forum for Cox Homelife issues, but that's exactly the point.....Homelife still appears to be an afterthought at Cox given there is no dedicated customer forums page, hard to find support outside of canned videos. Options to upgrade are nothing more than to purchase more less than desireable hardware options (camera selection very limited). One true upgrade option I believe would be greatly received is ability to create custom sounds for event rules (who wants to hear sound of machine gun or helicopter flutter?) something meaningful like "(Child's name) Door Open/Closed" (I have a handicapped daughter) or "Patio Door Open/Closed". Also, if Cox does not desire to improve on it's camera offerings, then the ability to use personally procured IP camera's (even if Cox does not offer support for non-proprietary devices) would be ideal. Finally, while internet connections (Cox's service) has been great, cameras have difficulty remaining connected - thief/car would be 3 miles away by the time I connect to my outside camera. Are there going to be any "true" upgrades in very near future?1.5KViews0likes1Comment
