Good emails identified as spam is a serious issue.
I know this has been discussed over the last month in a prior thread, but I think another thread is more appropriate, given the severity of the issue, than adding to an old one. This situation is ridiculous, and Cox will be liable given this can have severe consequences for people, missed bills, medication notifications, etc. This is not a slight issue Cox! Just today, 4 of 18 message in my spam folder were spam. Two of the misidentified as spam were important and time sensitive. This is now a regular issue that, by my experiences, started sometime about a month ago. My kids' school district, community groups, online forums, and legitimate marketing are being as spam. The webmail interface option for "Not Junk" does not teach the service a domain or sender is not-spam, it's fake and just moves emails. There is no way to disable the spam filtering. Basically, there is no way for users resolve the issue. In response to the thinking, "This is why you always check your SPAM folder", sure, absolutely, but it isn't always that simple. Most users rely on email clients, not web access, and depending on the email client, or more importantly, what protocol the client is using, can mean these clients' users never see the what is going into the Cox spam folder. I've been dutifully reaching out to senders than are being caught up in this issue and hopefully they'll be reaching out to Cox too. For now Cox customers are up s creek without a paddle, many may not even know it. I've been customer for over 20 years and I want to stay that way, but resolving situations like these prove Cox is worth the loyalty. for reasons I am not quite sure I have started getting inundated with spam starting a couple years ago. prior to that I rarely got any. whatever the reason I have been trying to use cox's horrible spam filtering. currently this is my strategy: create a "white list" filter labeled "ignore spam filters" this is a list of from addresses/email domains with the action of keep and do not process subsequent rules. create filters for the from field, and other fields that contain words that I am certain no one I know, and no company I know will use, and/or contain words and phrases/misspellings mangled fonts etc that I am certain no one I know uses. this rule is set to REJECT with reason: "553: account doesn't exist" 553 is an actual error code for a mailbox that does not exist. my hope is spam and phishing software may receive this error and remove my email address. either way I won't get the email. create a filter for all other words and phrases that goes to a folder I created that is not the spam folder to see what filters are working, and what is being filtered by cox, also to catch any false positives to add to the white list.515Views1like13CommentsSpam Explosion
In the past week or so it seems that Cox has lost control of the spam filtering for the email. It used to be really bad, and then subsided. But now the spammers are back and in full force. I have not made any changes to my spam settings, although they are harder to find in the "new webmail." So Cox, how are you going to resolve this? I already use other providers for email as well, and their spam blocking is far superior. the new webmail ** I never wanted or asked for churched up webmail. I have had to setup multiple filters to block spam that (after many years of none) has started to inundate my account. I have had to create filters to keep known good email addresses and other criteria. now emails that came in just fine are going to my SPAM folder. problems is I disabled ALL my filters and certain emails still end up in the SPAM folder. specifically xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com (where x's are the phone number) marking them as "not spam" does nothing other than put them in my inbox. the old spam settings seem to have disappeared from settings.2KViews1like41CommentsScam calls saying they are from COX
Today I received a call from a man at (918) 200-2647 stating he was with Cox. He asked my first name and I replied he was correct. Then he asked if I wanted him to help me set up internet at my new address. I told him that I didn't have a new address yet. I don't know if he guessed or saw our 'for sale' sign in our yard, but somehow knew we plan on moving. I told him I didn't need any help because I was moving to a state that didn't have Cox. He said ok and hung up. I confirmed with Cox that they do not make these kind of calls as they would have no way to know who is planning an upcoming move. How can i get cox to quit prepending "-- SPAM --" to the emails consumed by a 3rd party email client? Even after I've told your learning engine that it's, "not spam". I should not have to add every single from address to a contact. Yet, even that doesn't help. Better yet, how can I get cox to simply quit scanning ALL of my email even though I already have "No SPAM Filtering" selected? Your SPAM "learning" **, I've never seen it learn and whitelist any FROM address I've marked as "not spam". Dear Forum Members, I'm extremely sick of Spam, which no doubt is universal. What has the been your experience(s) of using commercial Spam filters? Specifically, are any more effective than COX's brain dead feature? I'm interested in routing all COX email to such a filter, then "whitelisting" the sites from which I want to receive messages. This is the method used at my place of work, and it is very effective. Yes, start up will be daunting, but so is flagging the seemingly endless number of spam messages. In many ways it seems like Cox is a magnet for attracting not just spam, but other exploits, such as spoofing, phishing and pharming.
