Why is my internet download speed far from what I am paying for?
I have had Cox Preferred service for a number of years. I consistently got download speeds of 30+mb and uploads of about 8 mb. So I just upgraded to Cox Premier service and I now still get download speeds of still 30+mb and upload speeds of about 16+mb. So Premier service is supposed to provide upload speeds of up to 10 mb and download speeds of up to 150 mb. Why am I still getting slow download speeds and higher than expected upload speeds?1.8KViews0likes4CommentsSlow Download Speeds
Can someone explain the actual versus the claimed internet download speeds. I have been downloading a lot of large files today, both at work and at home, both Cox Internet. The actual file download speeds have ranged consistently between 0.5 and 2.5 mbps. I believe I am paying significant money for speeds in the 50 to 150 mbps range. Any thoughts, or guidance on what I am missing here?1.2KViews0likes1CommentSlower than normal internet
A little history, In the past few years I have subscribed to the Prefered internet tier (50mbs) which speed tested at 50 to 60 mbs download and also the Premier internet tier of 100 which speed tested at 116 to 119 mbs download. to cut cost I downgraded back to the 50 mbs service and recently noticed that my speeds were testing around 10 to 12 mbs down, so I called Cox support and they said the see no problems in the Cox network. I then figured to resolve the slower than normal connection I would just upgrade to the 100 mbs tier again since it was only $5 a month more. I did this and I was only getting 40 to 50 mbs speeds. I then called Cox support again and they said everything looks good in Cox network.... of course this was testing with there support tech and rebooting my modem several times and testing with and without my router in the mix....... same result...everything good in cox network. This was using the same equipment I have been using and getting great speed test in the past (cisco 3010 docis 3 modem and netgear n900 router) so I bit the bullet and went and bought a new docis 3 modem SB6183 with 12 downstream channels (since my cisco only had 8) and a new Netgear Nighthawk X4.... low and behold, same result the best I get is 52 mbs. I have run this test several times to 3 different COX servers. these are my modem numbers: Channel Lock Status Modulation Channel ID Frequency Power SNR Corrected Uncorrectables 1 Locked QAM256 25 801000000 Hz -3.1 dBmV 40.2 dB 203 97 2 Locked QAM256 26 807000000 Hz -3.2 dBmV 40.2 dB 204 208 3 Locked QAM256 27 813000000 Hz -3.4 dBmV 40.2 dB 204 175 4 Locked QAM256 28 819000000 Hz -4.1 dBmV 40.0 dB 179 177 5 Locked QAM256 29 825000000 Hz -4.9 dBmV 39.8 dB 222 133 6 Locked QAM256 30 831000000 Hz -6.0 dBmV 39.4 dB 192 125 7 Locked QAM256 31 837000000 Hz -6.5 dBmV 39.0 dB 204 251 8 Locked QAM256 32 843000000 Hz -6.8 dBmV 38.4 dB 171 87 9 Locked QAM256 33 849000000 Hz -6.1 dBmV 39.1 dB 2747 2474 10 Locked QAM256 34 855000000 Hz -5.7 dBmV 39.3 dB 160 191 11 Locked QAM256 35 861000000 Hz -5.3 dBmV 39.4 dB 163 116 12 Locked QAM256 36 867000000 Hz -6.1 dBmV 39.2 dB 169 117 Upstream Bonded Channels Channel Lock Status US Channel Type Channel ID Symbol Rate Frequency Power 1 Locked ATDMA 2 5120 Ksym/sec 32400000 Hz 46.2 dBmV 2 Locked ATDMA 1 5120 Ksym/sec 38800000 Hz 49.5 dBmV 3 Locked ATDMA 3 5120 Ksym/sec 26000000 Hz 47.0 dBmV 4 Locked TDMA and ATDMA 4 2560 Ksym/sec 21200000 Hz 45.5 dBmV2KViews0likes2CommentsWi-Fi is SO Slow... it is worse than the old Dial Up
We have been with Cox for 10+ years. The service has gotten worse and worse. The modem was replaced 2 weeks ago. We went and bought a new router and that didn't help either. It is obvious that the problem is with COX because of the hundreds of complaints found on the support Forums. To charge customers for service that isn't compatible with what is advertised deceptive advertising. I hope COX will get it fixed very quickly!1.5KViews0likes3CommentsInternet Stability Problems
I live in Henderson NV (Pittman area) , has anyone else been having stability issues? For the last 2 weeks the internet will go from over 140mbps to 1kbps and then back up to 100mbps constantly. It doesn't go completely out but it drops so low that web pages will time out before they can completely load. I've done all the router, modem, computer restarts, reset, and so forth. I've switched around from direct feed to only my computer and to router (home network) and nothing changes the stability issues. I've even switched out all the CAT5 cables. Currently the network light is flashing orange but the internet seems to be steady at about 84mbps. Anyone else having issues?1.7KViews0likes2CommentsHigh Upstream Power levels
DVW326B Cable modem via Cox constant disconnects, at least 10-15 times daily, Cox Tech sub contractor has been out, I've replaced the Modem 4 times now with no results, Researching this issue I found information stating that 51-54 DbmV is quite high for an Upstream signal power level depending on what channel I'm looking at.. My modem is essentially screaming at the isp and eventually shutting down My downstream seems to be o.k. at -4.7 - -6.0 although it should be 0 Why hasn't Cox detected this in all the times they have looked into my modem connection or the tech when he came out I need this resolved immediately1.9KViews0likes1CommentHigh Uncorrectables: Cox Moderator Needed
I've been having issues with my Ultimate recently, and think it may be narrowed down to Channel IDs. When reset my cable modem's configuration, it used different channel ID's for my downstream that allowed my Internet to blaze. However, moments later it switched back to the channel IDs that keep giving me issues. Screenshot below. Is a Cox moderator able to access my account, and change my Downstream Frequency? When my cable modem connects to this frequency and upload channel, the high uncorrectables come back into the millions (check account notes). The Downstream Frequency screenshot is attached below.7.4KViews0likes14Commentsultimate speed gimped!!!!
went from premier to ultimate in my area 23518 and instead of the 200mbps I'm paying for it actually is doing a bit worse from my old 100 mbps on my premier plan, before upgrading I had a cisco DPC3010 and now with the ultimate plan I have the arris surfboard SB6183 cable modem. speeds have never broken 90 let along the 200 mbps I require for my high speed life. so either I can get this resolved or just downgrade and save the cash cause at that point my speed will be faster. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/51410225181.7KViews0likes1CommentWHEN WILL WE SEE IPv6?
This is my residential account which I've had for the past 2.5 years and once in a while I'll review the SB 6141 logs which show the same consistent errors at the end of every dynamic, 24 hour refresh &/or power failure as well. I've resided in several of the states Cox provides service to and must say that the little old Virginia Beach, VA 23451, 23456 areas have seen little in terms of performance boost over the same period. Having a unique business which serves the large retirement community of West Neck Village and the adjacent homes bordering the Signature Golf Corse has given me plenty of insight as to common problems that could be easily fixed with some accurate, personable discussion in advance with residents here. Almost every house hold visited maintains a Cox internet package along with phone and TV packages bundled in an effortto keep customers under some false belief that they might actually be saving money. I really differ in this opinion and for starters, let's consider the "upgrade anything package" with key emphasis onvariables that cypher from anything to words like premier and ultimate internet packages throughout. I can't begin to tell you (yes I do have an extensive log book) the number of times I've not onlyhelped introduce a retiree to the web based account access but further investigation revealed that they were using DOCSIS 2.0 modems at best ranging in with oldMotorola SB 51_0and had no idea that the speed they were bottlenecking at 40 to 50Mbps down and maybe 15 up was nowhere near the potential of the advertised Premier, let alone Ultimate band width delivered. The fact is, your customer information pages are far too vague and Cox has but a few markets with Giga Blast or whatever catch jingle advertised. Further, how can a customer be upgraded to the Ultimate Tier and have a tech (on both occasions they claimedtheir presence stating allis well) not only provision the account but knowingly leave the antiquated DOCSIS 2.0 modems running on the customer’s account? In so far as IPv6 is concerned, is there a date when wecan expect to say good bye to the 6 to 4 standard. My business account is running IPv6 so what gives? I've been the go to guy for computer, electronic, gadget, games and emergency services equipment installs since the infancy of this community (my parents also residehere) and more often than not have scratched my head wondering what the h_ll is going on with proper coveragefrom actual Cox Techs that were not only helpful, but available from 04' through 07' Now, it's hit and miss with subcontractors who might be trained to runRG through a floorplate, terminate with compressed fitting, screw the cable into said hole "cable" power on the modem with hopefully 110 current (yes there once was a 220 incident)dial up support, provision MAC and Serial number (this floors me as a ultimate speed internet package holder with SB5120 modems) connect the Cat 5e to the router and ask or tell, "well mam, your internet is all up to snuff and we also checked, with your permission as to connectivity through you home router and Walla, you are good to go. As I write this, I'm in area code 23451 and it wouldn't matter if I had single or dual band capable DOCSIS 3.0 modems, I still have yet to see 150 Mbps down and not much past 20 up. Ihad techs out in which they all concur (hint, I was a cable tech who used hisWavetek CLI-1750 religiously) the infrastructure locally is a hybrid of old, new and salvaged equipment dating back to the late 80s’ So then my question on my account page wants me to upgrade my modem from the SB6141 to a SB6183 dual band modem. Should I invest in hopes that I might actually see the holy grail of 150Mbps? You know how frustrating it is as member of Broadband Reports who probably visits the site 2 or 3 times a year and read the Q & A section for Cox HSI customers only to realize their screen clipping of modem stats indicates 200+Mbps on an average in AZ and other markets compared to your customers in Virginia who will never see service levels comparable to actual Cox Employees who, I’m sure take pride in their work. Honestly, it ** and please excuse the slang but no other term fits your service so well. Oh, how could I depart without asking were one of the so many available Wi-Fi hotspots are down here at the ocean front? Of all the areas that could benefit customers who are existing Cox account holders and vacation in Virginia Beach, only to find that there service provider doesn’t have WIFI locally, Not Hot or Spot Regards, Brian R.2.6KViews0likes1Comment
