Arris SB8200 Dropping Out on Large Upload - Firmware Issue or How to Diagnose?
I have an issue where when doing larger upload (presenting my screen and cam video) that within 10-20 minutes I'll lose my entire internet connection. It only seems to happen on those type of upload situations and haven't had the issue happen when doing large downloads. I updated my router firmware but also wanted to figure out how to diagnose if it's perhaps an issue with my modem or Cox service provider. I have accessed the ARRIS modem page and see Hardware version of 6 and Software version of AB01.02.053.05_051921_193.0A.NSH. But I have no idea if that's good or bad. That date may be May of 2021? Reading online it seems that I should not be updating firmware, rather Cox should. But Cox online tech support was bad, I mean really bad, they had no idea what I was asking about what version they are pushing to my modem (she was trying to sell me a different modem). I'd like to understand what I can look for in event log in modem to determine if this is a modem issue or what. And if anyone knows the right questions to ask or number to call for lower level tech support from Cox who can answer these types of questions.719Views0likes8CommentsArris SBG8300 Upstream QAM Speeds.
I bought an Arris SBG8300 modem/router in one last June and upgraded to Gigablast. We've had several Cox techs to the house to narrow down the root cause of slow speed and intermittent connectivity issues we have. We have a new large gauge wire (11?) from the post in our yard to our house. From there it is a direct line (no splitters) to our Arris. So . I ran a speed test hard wired to the modem/router. Here are the result (23 DL, 33 UL...on gigablast 😞 https://www.speedtest.net/result/11076560076 When contacting Arris about the issue they seemed adamant that the Upstream power levels were the issue (all five approximately 34dbmv) as they are well below the minimum recommended of 45dbmv. They way I understand it, Cox should be telling the modem what upstream power it expects, so the issue could be that this specific model was spec'd out incorrectly in Cox's system. I say this after having had the issue with two of these same Arris's since last June coupled with the fact that the tech who saw this modem tonight acted like I had exposed electrical wires (anecdotal, but techs see a lot of different hardware, so I think there's possibly some good reason for his reaction). What're the forum's thoughts? I don't want to just buy more hardware as I have a hefty sum invested in this one and Arris is not exactly making it easy to get a refund. Thanks, Jamie2.4KViews0likes7CommentsARRIS SB8200 Modem levels too low. Internet Speed to Slow for Gigablast Plan I'm paying for
I been talking in circles with the cox customer support for days they say everything is fine on their end. I called ARRIS today and they said my signal levels were low on the modem and that's why I'm not getting the speed I'm paying for. I finally convinced them to send a technician out after they in multiple attempts tried to convince me something was wrong with my network equipment and tried to sell me their router that doesn't even support my plan. They said I should be getting 40 or more on all channels.847Views0likes1CommentArris SB8200 Docsis 3.1 GigaBlast No Blue Lights Up or Down
Called Cox for new internet options. Told me I was grandfathered in at 150. Quoted me 300 and Giga. Call ended. I had a Netgear 3.0 modem / router combo that worked fine. I buy a 3.0 modem and a mesh router to increase my WIFI area. I try to get it calibrated only to find out I have a work order for GigaBlast speeds and my 3.0 equipment is unusable. So as a patient person I go and swap my 3.0 for a 3.1 modem costing me more money. I call to get the 3.1 calibrated by Cox and it shows all green lights 3.0, no blue lights for Arris SB8200 Docsis 3.1 GigaBlast No Blue Lights Up or Down. Speeds are 250 down and 20 up and that is before and after a modem factory reset with ONLY my laptop plugged in. Tried with a desktop as well with the same result. - Called and asked was GiagBlast and Docsis 3.1 avilable in my area and told it was - Forced to GigaBlast without request and told I can't return to my original speed - Asked me to upgrade my equipment to take advantage of GigaBlast but when equipment is installed it I only get 3.0 and low speeds - Called from 10am to Midnight and text chat too. After dealing with 6 different people and a whole day wasted I still got nowhere - Best of all I was told no work could be done while there was an "outage" in my area. One that lasted from 2pm to 7pm, and then another that started at 12am forecast to end at 6am. Anybody else have these issues and if so how were they resolved??? - Do yourself a favor and DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT engage in the text chat option from your phone. A waste of time and resources!!!! I have tested this over the last few days and it is consistently an issue. I also tested against NYTimes.com to have a comparison. Based upon some forum suggestions from blizzard, I turned off IPV6 to force IPV4. I also rebooted and turned off the gateway. The gateway is one that one of your support personnel suggested. ARRIS Surfboard Wireless Gateway SBG7580-AC. The aforementioned forum suggested WinMTR so I downloaded it. The most recent results are included below. The main points are the overall level of packet loss and the loss even in the jump to the router. Any suggestions or ideas? WinMTR results March 5, 2018 ~11 AM after turning off IPV6 on my LAN connection and the cable Modem/router. |------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| I've had cox bring a brand new modem/router combo, couldn't get over 50gb on the 5ghz and 20 on the 2.4ghz they didn't even do what the webpage describes as the Professional Install (for 75.00). called cox back and they sent out a tech. He rewired everything from outside and inside the the new modem still couldn't get the speeds up to par. Had to take the equipment back to a nearby store. GIVE them cred here as they refunded the 75.00 install fee. BUT we went back to the 100gb service, the speed tests say we are getting the 100gb speeds for file downloads. BUT any web page we try to go to takes forever to load all except google which loads fine. Any other site the speed is like old dialup. It seems to me and I've been in the computer field since 1969 that they are either slowing things down on purpose or their DNS servers can't keep up. since we have been betrayed by our congress and senate and lost net neutrality the speeds are going to get worse bepending on the content you want to download and/or sites to visit, not to mention streaming. COX are you going to send us all emails on which sites/services you intend to slow down? since my neighbor has century link at a whole 14gb line and her web pages load over 6 times faster than your 100gb line The wife and I might as well switch since we are no longer doing online gamming. It would be a real shame to lose a 15 year customer because of slow webpage loading. As to your phone suopport your LV 1 tech's Need real upgrading. The LV 2 are a bit better. one of the last problems we had was super slow everything, LV 1 said our modem was too old and at fault, calld back to talk to another LV 1 they couldn't find the modem as even being online. the LV 2 couldn't help either it too a LV 3 to solve the problem and about 6 hours. 1 week later speeds back down to 20-30 gb. after the above new modem ect. went back to our modem and our 1900ac nethawk router and back to full speed untill the past week or two and download seems fine but webpage resolution dow to dialup speeds. we quit calling them as the fixes if any only last a few weeks then back to the same problems. I wonder if satelite internet might be an alternitive. This is the Phoenix area I'm talking about.1.2KViews0likes1CommentNew SB8200 - improper provisioning
I just purchased and installed a new Arris SB8200 for use at my home to replace an aging SB6120. I followed the installation instructions and I called cox customer service to register the new modem via it's SN and MAC address. The modem is connected and I'm able to connect to the internet. But here's the problem... My download speeds are horrendously slow now. Immediately before I disconnected the SB6120, I ran a speed test and I was getting in excess of my current plan speeds. ~60Mbps down and about 7-8Mbps up. Now, the same test yields around 10Mbps or less down and, at times, really high upload speeds around 20-30 Mbps. I have checked all of the signal levels reported by the modem webpage and they all appear nominal. It also appears that all 32 download channels have been bonded and 4 upload channels are bonded (see bottom). Here's a current speed test report from the cox website. as you can see horrendously slow on the download side which is less than 10% of what I should be receiving. Test Results Download Upload 4 Mbps 6 Mbps My Internet Plan COX INTERNET PREFERRED Download Upload 50 Mbps 5 Mbps Speed Test Results Device Type Latency desktop 31 ms IP Address Test Server So what gives? I know that many other cox users including those in Phoenix and elsewhere in AZ have reported that this modem works as advertised when provisioned. Has mine been provisioned improperly? I know from other users of the modem that the firmware version being pushed out by COX and other providers is at least one or more revisions older than the modem's current firmware revision which is: Software Version D31CM-PEREGRINE-1.0.0.2-GA-01-NOSH Why is my quality of service all of a sudden negatively impacted by upgrading my modem (which is something Cox want's you to do every few years) to the latest model which is officially supported by Cox? As a long time cox customer going back 17 years, this is not meeting my expectation of performance and service currently. :-( I am not connecting to the modem wirelessly, but through a wired Ethernet connection. I have tried connecting directly to my PC and through my router and the results are exactly the same. So I have a Arris Surfboard DBG6900-AC router. I live in the San Diego, California area and am wondering if IPv6 is implemented in my area. According to the Cox website, IPv6 is technically enabled everywhere, but when talking to tech support and checking my modems setting, it isnt. Just curious and would like to enable IPv6 if possible.1.1KViews0likes1Comment
