What could possibly be hurting my signal???
•Gigablast plan •Brand new coax running through my home. •Only 1 splitter (cable modem/TV box) •Docsis 3.1 modem. All levels power and SNR levels within recommended. •Lines tested at home and at road by senior technician. Says everything looks great. •Technician ran a ping plotter to determine of any nodes were bad. Everything looked good. •All wiring and connectors are secured firmly. My issues: connection inconsistencies I can have a short span where everything seems to be going well, then BAM...lagging everywhere. I don't have a pc so I can't particularly run these advanced pc tests. But from what I'm observing, my biggest issues are PING SPIKES, PACKET LOSS, AND FLUCTUATING UPLOAD SPEEDS.. I'm also getting T3 TIMEOUTS in my event log I started to think maybe it was the servers I was playing on and not my signal. But I play at my girlfriends house and have absolutely no issues. She has suddenlink. What in the heck could be my issue? Because cox is not able to detect it and I find it very annoying to not even be able to game on gigabit speeds. Ps: at this point I'm testing things straight wired to my modem. Is there anything that can be interfering with my signal that cox wouldn't be able to detect even with a ping plotter? I need some real knowledge here.3.8KViews0likes17CommentsHorrible Ping Spikes (Tried many solutions)
tl;dr is at the bottom ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For awhile now I've been experiencing very small spikes in pretty much all games I play. I'm using a wired connection to my PC. As for what kind of internet I have, it is Gigablast from Cox. I've attempted to use their support multiple times, but on there end it seems like there are no issues so I'm kind of at a lost. I recently got a new router too, going from a Netgear Nighthawk to Cox's Panoramic Gateway. Valorant, CSGO, and Rocket League are the ones I have the biggest problems with. I've updated all of my drivers (network, graphics, and chipset), bios, and windows hoping for some sort of fix but to no avail. Resetting my modem/router does nothing, its on the latest firmware, and I've tried multiple channels for my Wi-Fi (I know it doesn't really change my wired connection's perfomance but im desperate) If you're experienced with Valorant, I use both the text and graphics display for system performance. I can see very miniscule packet loss spikes that go all the way up to 100%, but it only lasts for fractions of a second. In CSGO and Rocket League, their network performance displays do not detect any problems. CSGO claims that my performance is fine, with consistent +300 fps, pretty stable ping, and 0% loss in netgraph_1 , but while playing I can see pretty big stutters every couple minutes. I use Command Prompt on the side, and consistently ping 8.8.8.8 (as recommended on the searches I did), I can see spikes that go upwards from 100ms, where as it usually sits roughly around 20ms. Very occasionally the requests even time out. Flushing/renewing my DNS and different ethernet cables dont work. Im completely at a loss. My friends said turning setting MoCA on might fix it, but the setting doesnt enable for whatever reason. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TL;DR - I get many small spikes in packet loss and ping on my wired connection. Updating windows, bios, and all drivers didn't fix it. Got a new router 2 months ago but the problem still persists. Cox reports back as there are no issues in my network. If anyone has any idea as to what is happening or a potential fix, I'm all ears. I have been cox for over 10 years now and I've had enough. About 6 months ago the ping in the game I have always played went up. For over 3 years the ping in that game had stayed the same but 6 months ago it had increased. I contacted cox and they said it all looks fine to them and no matter what I said, they said they dont see anything wrong with it. Clearly something is wrong because when I use VPN then ping drops and there are no packet losses or ping spikes. I have seen now that I am not the only one with the same issues and cox seems not to be doing anything about it. This is absurd. I want answers why this is happening espically now that I am paying way more for internet compared to what I was paying before. What good are all the download and upload speeds if you cant even have stable ping for gaming. For someone who has been loyal to cox I am unsatisfied with the cost and the service.2.5KViews1like14CommentsKeep getting connected to a terrible at capacity node. Please show that Cox is doing something before I file a FCC report.
For the past couple months, my internet in the downtown New Orleans area has been terrible. A full day outage every couple weeks and days of low speed/insane ping jitters. I'm working from home and have to remote in for work, and the internet has been so unreliable that I have to sometimes use my mobile data hotspot for work. Playing online videogames is impossible with insane ping jitters. I've called customer service but nothing got resolved. No, you cannot use the previous hurricane as an excuse. My internet was fine for couple months after the hurricane. You probably did some node rerouting and my area kept getting the bottom end of the stick. I'm posting my complain here so we have something in writing for the public to see and I'm hoping to get a resolution before I make a FCC report. What's the node capacity in my area? Does Cox have a plan to do a node split? Or I'm wrong and it's a different issue? Am I getting credit/discount for a subpar service? I've been recording ping data with PingPlotter, here's one for example: https://imgur.com/a/1SpLR5H Thanks for reading and I'm looking forward to hearing your response.2.2KViews0likes5CommentsLatency Variation. Unstable Ping. Intermittent Connectivity.
At this point I do not know what to do anymore. I'm on the brink of switching to another provider but I don't want to lose my home telephone number. My ping used to be stable up until a year ago, I literally had the lowest ping, it never even moved or had any jitter. Now it's spiking every second dramatically. You can't play games and it even causes regular PC and TV usage problems. There's literally nothing I have not tried. I have the ethernet connected to my PC. The problem occurs throughout all the devices, wired and wireless so clearly its not a matter of my personal devices. All the ping tests I've done show graphs that are jumping up and down. I tried bypassing the router which didn't work. I tried changing the BTU size and that failed. I changed the IP address Got a new modem that failed I've done a cmd ping test on like every address and it the ms ranges from like 15-230! Got a new router that failed It doesn't matter if its night or day or 3 am at night, the ping is unstable and the jitter is off the charts. It doesn't matter if there is one device using the internet or 10. I contacted Cox about 5 times by now, and half the time there technician won't send in the reports or submit the requests for people to come fix the issue. Cox has replaced the internet line but not the port and that seems to be the issue. The first tech came, ran a test on the port and showed me his device which showed failing statuses. He saida third party guy will come to replace the port. No one ever came and instead Cox sent a regular tech guy and he didn't know what he was doing and left. Later on another tech guy came and tested the port but this time it was all in the green... What should I do with this useless internet? Leave the company or just live with it.1.1KViews0likes0CommentsCan someone help me analyse this WinMTR test to Google's DNS?
So since switching to Cox internet about 2 1/2 weeks ago my computer (connected via ethernet) has gotten much better ping and packet loss (0%) than we had with our old ISP. Even though most of the time my ping is great, I noticed that when I play online games I get occasional rubber banding or very quick ping spikes. I decided to test my connection with Google's DNS server because that would rule out any problems the actual server I was playing on had. No one else I was playing with seemed to get the ping spikes or rubber banding I was getting but I still wanted to make sure it wasn't the server f-ing up. Everything looks spot on until the 5th and 6th hop. The 6th hop especially has a huge ping spike every time I do a WinMTR test. My 2 questions are: 1. Is this a problem I can fix with the lines going in my house/to the pole? Or is this happening because of something else going on. 2. Where is this IP address?nyrkbbrj01-pos000102.r2.ny.cox.net Thanks!1KViews0likes0CommentsUpstream / Upload issues leading to huge ping spikes
I've done everything I can on my end to mitigate the issues im having. All new coax in home. One brand new 2 way splitter for cable modem and TV box (-3.5db) All connections are firmly tightened and secured. Docsis 3.1 32x8 (2x2). Signal levels all in range T3 timeouts on event log. Cox has tested my lines in home and at the road. They say all it fine. Cox runs a ping plotter in my area...again, all is fine. My issue is terribly fluctuating upload speeds and this leads to drastic ping spikes which massively effects my gaming. Since cox has no idea what they are doing... is there anything I can do to mitigate this? I was doing some research and I saw this (image attached). Would something like this work? Or is there something that I can implement myself that will fix this issue? Last i heard from cox, they said my neighborhood has "Intermittent Noise Issues" Its been this way for years.. Way before Hurricane Laura Way before Covid 19. I need a miracle....somebody lol /resized-image/__size/320x240/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/5/Screenshot_5F00_20200830_2D00_215300_5F00_Chrome.jpg568Views0likes2Comments
