After spending a good deal of time and effort trying to make Thunderbird get along with Yahoo, I finally figured it out. If you are reading this, you have probably already called Cox only to find out that they have washed their hands of the whole email thing and will only refer you to a phone number for Yahoo. And of course Yahoo is not set up to handle this, so you will wait in the phone queue for half of forever only to find out that they don't know how to set it up either. So in the hope that my experience may help some other poor slob, I present the below instructions, and I hope it helps. I am using the Thunderbird program to access emails on a Windows computer, however I suspect the settings will be the same for anyone using Thunderbird. First, to transfer the emails to Yahoo and establish a webmail account, follow the directions provided by Cox as regurgitated here: "Visit mail.yahoo.com/login and enter your complete cox.net email address, including the Cox.net suffix, as your username. Then enter your current Cox password, and accept the Yahoo Mail Terms of Service. Upon signing in, you’ll set up a new password for your new Yahoo account." Now log out of the Yahoo webmail and open Thunderbird. I have my email accounts and corresponding folders located in a column on the left of the page. Yours may be set up differently, but mine is the default and I will base detailed instructions on that. Go to the left column and click on the line that shows your complete cox email address. If you have multiple addresses, you will need to perform the following instructions for each of them. Now look to the top right of the new page and click on "account settings". At the bottom of the settings page is the line "Outgoing Server (SMTP)", and at the far right of that line is a box that says "Edit SMTP server"; click on it. A pop-up window will open, adjust the settings as shown below: Description: COX Server Name: smtp.mail.yahoo.com Port: 465 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: OAuth2 User Name: your user name, duh click OK Now go back to the left hand column and click on "Server Settings". On this page the settings will be as follows: Server Name: imap.mail.yahoo.com Port: 993 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication Method: OAuth2 Now close Thunderbird and reopen it. You will now be asked for a password for each of your email addresses. Use the new password that you used to set up the Yahoo webmail. Congratulations you have mail! If you want to use POP instead of IMAP I suggest you first set it up with IMAP and then go back and change the setting after you know it is working.1KViews1like16CommentsCox email transition - has anyone completed the transition to Yahoo
Has anyone completed the email transition to Yahoo? It would be appreciated if any Cox customer would answer this question. I have been trying to get some information about when; and all I receive from Cox is we don’t know. In my opinion this response is unbelievable - a significant customer service change and the company’s help response team can’t provide an answer is unbelievable - implies a lack of transparency or worst. So that’s why I am calling out to any Cox customer and provide some feedback about the “actual” transition. I and many of us have received the preliminary emails about the future. Has anyone's completed the transition?4KViews2likes48CommentsNetgear CM3000 support
Good afternoon. I have the Netgear CM3000 modem. It is a 2.5gbps modem but is listed as only 1gbps rated. Is there anyway to have this updated so I may upgrade my internet to 2GIG? Your quick reference states so as well. https://www.cox.com/content/dam/cox/business/support/data/print_media/CM3000_QuickStartGuide.pdf It is simply the newest version of the CM2000. https://www.cox.com/content/dam/cox/residential/support/internet/print_media/CM2000_DataSheet.pdf Thank you.42Views0likes6CommentsCannot Send Mail
What happened to the instructions that were supposed to arrive once the transition to Yahoo happened? I can send emails from Windows 10 desktop using the Cox webmail address: https://www.cox.com/content/dam/cox/okta/mail.html However I can't send email using the Mail app on my iPhone or iPad. I get this message: "Cannot Send Mail. The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.cox.net" failed. Additional outgoing Mail Servers can be configured for Mail accounts in Settings > Mail > Accounts>" How can I determine if I am in "transition" or some other problem?175Views2likes10Commentsexcessive data use charges
Since the November 2023 billing cycle, I have been hit with ~ $70 of data overage charges each month. Our usage patterns have not varied for the past several years, in fact they actually appear lower during months everyone was home full time. I am also confident nobody is hijacking our wifi and none of the devices have malware. So, I followed the process and opened a ticket with support, which was of no help. They just kept referring me to the "data usage meter" report in my account portal and claimed it was accurate. I asked for a copy of specific traffic logs so I could audit accuracy and hopefully identify the root cause source device(s). They advised me that specific information wasn't captured. I asked how they could classify my traffic as "web browsing" versus "social media" versus "network management and testing" (according to their data meter) if they didn't have the specific data from their logging. They had no answer for that query. My next step was to register a complaint with my local utility regulator (PURA for Connecticut). Literally the day after I submitted my complaint (and included several other Cox forum posts indicating other customers with very similar issues), I received a call from a "Cox Escalation Specialist", who basically repeated the talking points from the original service call I opened. It appears PURA didn't do anything other than literally pass along a complaint to a utility they are supposed to regulate. Not happy with this development, I contacted my local State Senator's Office and asked them to intervene on my behalf. All I am asking for is specific and accurate data to support Cox' claim of excessive use. It seems like this is a concerted effort to dissuade customers from complaining in the hopes they will simply pay the recurring charges or upgrade to a more expensive unlimited data plan. If Cox can prove their claims of excessive usage, I will be happy to pay or upgrade without complaint, but until then, I don't plan to let this rest.331Views2likes16CommentsEMail not saving messages
As far as I can determine I am still with Cox email. Today two out of my six accounts stopped saving messages. I use Thunderbird for emails and the 'SENT' file is grayed out and no messages show. I get two error messages Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder due to network or file problems The current command did not succeed. The mail server for account xxxx@cox.net responded [TRYCREATE] Mailbox doesn't exist. When I log in to webmail.cox.net, I can see the old message but the newly sent message are not being saved. Four out of the six account are working OK14Views0likes1CommentWARNING: Yahoo hides spam from third-party email apps
Yahoo Email filters out their idea of spam into a Yahoo spam folder and never makes it visible to third-party email apps such as Mac Mail or Thunderbird. I found this out the hard way when several critical emails did not arrive as expected, only to find them later in Yahoo's spam folder via their webmail interface. There is no way I've found to turn this off. You can supposedly train their spam filter by marking individual emails as "not spam", but this means you still have to login constantly to Yahoo and check the spam folder for legitimate email.30Views0likes0CommentsMac with Sonoma won’t let my cox/yahoo account to go online.
MacBook Pro with Sonoma OS, I added myCox yahoo account to the Apple email program. However, it will not let me take this account online. The status will always remain off-line no matter what steps I try to take it online. I haven’t been able to find anywhere if I need to change the IMAP and SMTP settings if that’s what’s required. Anyone have a fix to this problem?Solved33Views0likes5CommentsDozens of outages within past few weeks. NW OKC
I’ve not had a reliable connection to the internet in weeks now. Dozens and dozens of text outage alerts, updates, and fix notifications, but internet always ends up going down again a few minutes to hours later. I don’t know what to do. I need internet for work, and all the other things we pay to have internet for, but I’m not getting the service I pay for. ATT doesn’t have fiber in my area, so that’s no use. Anyone tried Tmobile 5G for home internet?31Views0likes1Comment
