XR15 Remote Not Pairing with Samsung TV

I just purchased a Samsung TV, QN65S90CAFX, and the installation of the TV went fine. The Samsung remotes work as expected. Now I am trying to pair the XR15 to the TV. The initial pairing, with the 3 digit code, went well. However, the Volume and TV on/off could not pair with the Samsung codes provided by Cox. I contacted Cox tech support and they had me go through the same steps I had done before. Then they said they had exhausted their bag of tricks and I needed a new remote. I went to the Cox store, exchanged my remote and got the same results with the new remote. This is totally unacceptable.

Note that I have an older Samsung TV and the older remote, XR11, and it programmed and worked just fine. I even tried pairing the old remote to the new TV and got the same results.

Is this a common problem with new Samsung TVs and Cox remotes? What can be done to get the remote working as advertised?

First what code did you try? I found these; 12051, 10766, 10814, 10060, 10178, 11959, 10702, 10650, 13118, 11755. I assume you tried the 12051 since that is what came up when entering the model number but try the others too. If none of those work, try the manual search method using the instructions below.

    1. press and hold setup till the light turns green.
    2. press 991
    3. press channel up, channel up, channel up... Until the tv turns off.

Thank you for your reply. You provided 3 codes that were not in the list when pairing for volume and on/off. Unfortunately they were not successful.

I just finished a phone call with a Cox tech rep where I went through all the pairing steps again on the XR15. No joy. She was baffled, as Samsung is a popular TV brand. She also said that the channel up, channel up suggestion could be used for the XR11 remote, not the XR15.

Since I had an older remote, XR11, she suggested pairing that with the TV. Went through all the pairing codes and Channel up, Channel up steps. No joy. Her recommendation was to use the Samsung remotes to control those features that could not be paired with the Cox remote. The purpose of the Cox remote is to negate the need for multiple remotes.

I am very frustrated at this point that there is not an acceptable solution.

Sorry. Not all devices are compatible. You could get a universal remote and program it for the Cox box if your looking for one remote bliss.

  • I am pretty disappointed with Cox that their remote cannot pair with a popular Samsung TV and the answer is that "Not all devices are compatible". Totally, totally unacceptable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Solution...

I feel a little silly after the Cox technician showed up and figured out what was going on. The Samsung sound bar was blocking the TV IR sensor port. Because the Cox remote uses an RF signal, everything on the remote worked (with any remote orientation) except for those functions that required a direct path TV IR input (ON/OFF and Volume). Now, I can get on/off and volume by ensuring a direct IR path to the TV sensor port.
