Remote schedule on dvr

Why don’t I have an option in the contour app to set a recording on my dvr when I am not home? It only says watch now.

Not one Cox moderator could post this complete list of requirements to schedule DVR recordings remotely.

    1. Be a Contour TV customer. (It’s not available with Cox TV).
    2. Use the Contour app or watchtv.cox.com.

I guess that’s it.  Those two things are all they needed to tell us.  People who have posted and read comments in this discussion for the past couple of days are better informed on this subject than all the Cox moderators put together.  It’s kind of annoying we had to work so hard to drag enough information out of them in order to figure it out for ourselves.

    Avoid Cox.

It doesn't help that there are more moderators on this forum than there are active users. I don't put specific blame on the moderator though. The problem is Cox's shift from technical support to customer service which is when they stopped telling employees to fix problems and instead focus on trying to make the customer feel better about the problem. when you hire the wrong people and then train them wrong and then force them to follow a specific script and policies, how can you expect decent support? and that's when it isn't contracted out to third parties. these people not only get even less train then Cox employees but there is the added disadvantage of a language barrier that hinders communication. I can take hard to understand and I can take troubleshooting with someone that is following the script but not both at the same time.

I wish I could DM you what I just wrote and deleted.  With a repeat of last night, I may click Reply.

I wonder if Cox chose not to turn that feature  on for users to save money or they just didn't want us talking to each other individually.  Big Brother could probably see them anyway.

        Avoid Cox.

To answer the question you asked, the most obvious reason you don't have that option would be because the app must not be programmed with that functionality.  Why have an option for something it can't do?

Okay, I know you actually meant to ask to have the ability to schedule DVR recordings added to the app.  There may be somebody in this user forum who would like to do that for you.  But unfortunately, we are unable to do more than advise you to contact Cox and make your request directly to them.  (You can reach them by emailing cox.help@cox.com.)  A moderator may post a thank you for your suggestion and tell you it will be forwarded to their leaders.  But, unless it's already in development, don't expect to see that option anytime soon.  User requests don't seem to be implemented quickly.

Edit: Better than in development, GregP1 posted that functionality already exists.  Maybe the app needs something that tells users about it.  Does it have a help option?  if it does and this functionality is included, then my revised recommendation would be the app version of RTFM.

I both perceive and understand the simmering rage that seems to be boiling just below the surface of that post. Grok.

Nah, I'm cool. 😀 I'm just saying that if this could have been handled by reviewing a help option, it could have saved everybody some time.  But if it can't be handled that way, maybe Cox should make that option available in a future release of the Contour app.

  • Hi,

I just double-checked the contour app and the https://watchtv.cox.com and verified that you can create delete and edit recordings from within the Cox apps. To set up a new recording go to live TV and pull up the channel guide. Tap on the program you want to record and you will be given the option to watch or record when you tap on record it will confirm your selection and give you the option to set up a series recording if available. Some channels cannot be recorded such as Xumo channels. Please let us know what program you are trying to record so we can check on that program.

GregP1  I just used a desktop browser to check the https://watchtv,cox,com website and I don't see a record option when tapping a program in the grid.  It just includes Watch and Episodes (information).  Were you only referring to when the Contour app is used?  I remember when record was an available option from a TV grid listing using a desktop browser, but that was a long time ago.

I followed your instructions and when i click on the program it doesn’t give me an option to record, only to watch.  I was trying to record on nbc The Americas in Sunday night

What model DVR do you have? See here for the difference types. Can anyone confirm if you need a cloud DVR?

GregP1   One final thought and you can probably put a bow on this discussion unless someone else has a follow-up comment.  For future reference, you might mention that the ability to schedule recordings with the Contour app is only available with Cloud DVR, assuming that's correct.  It would eliminate the need to get there by process of elimination.  You posted it can be done on the app or https://watchtv.cox.com, but it doesn't work for a DVR with a hard drive, so it must only work with Cloud DVR.

Either you or the OP should mark WMO's post as the solution since he was the first to actually pickup on the Cloud DVR requirement.
