VERY SLOW UPLOAD SPEEDS, download is fine.
I have been dealing with extremely slow upload speeds for a very long time, at least a year. Maybe two? I have gigablast. Download is consistently fine. Always around 900 mbps and above. Upload is sporadic. Very seldom I get the 35mbps. But its very short lasting. Maybe a couple hours, then it goes back down to well under 10mbps. Most of the time it stays under 5mbps. Just ran a speed test, its at 3mbps. Anyways, numerous tech visits. Most of them didn't find anything. Changed all cables from the pole outside, all the way into my house and up to my modem. Its a straight cable from the pole to modem, no splitters. Replaced my modem. Replaced all ethernet cords. Literally replaced EVERYTHING. Still having the same issues. One of the techs said I was getting slow speeds at the pole. Scheduled out a linemen to come check the lines down my street. Linemen said that he found something and that it should be repaired. My upload came up for a few days and stayed consistent, which never happened before, but now its back down again. Dealing with these issues for so long is very, very frustrating and the fact that I pay $160 a month for gigablast and the extra 500gb data and I don't even get a fraction of the speed I am paying for just tops it off. I don't know what else to do. I've just about given up. There's nothing else to replace. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Because I do not know what else to do. I've browsed many forums and other things on the internet and this seems to be an issues for many people, but i'm hoping someone has a miracle for me. And before anyone asks: YES, i'm directly connected to the modem WIRED and its on multiple devices. Yes I have rebooted it too many times to count.37KViews0likes20CommentsSlow Speeds with Netgear R7000 Router - How We Fixed It - SOLVED
This is a post about slow internet speeds with the Netgear R7000 router and how we solved the problem. If you want to skip directly to our fix, goto the fourth paragraph from the bottom of the post.If youwant the background first, keep reading. Like others, we've been having slow internet download speed issues with our R7000 router. These slow speeds are when we are connected by cable to the router with the wifi off on the computer and the router or if connected by wifi to the router - it doesn't matter. Our internet connection is the Ultimate package rated at 300Mbps/30Mbps download/upload. When connecting through the router we would be lucky to get 120-160Mbps download but always 30Mbps up. When connecting directly through the cable modem (Motorola MB8600) we usually get our rated download speed and above. All speed test numbers have been tested using not only the speed test software housed at Cox, but also speed test sites on the internet. All speed tests confirm each other as they are within 10% of each other with, of course, the ISP's test showing the fastest. Regardless, the R7000 router always showed 120-160 down (sometimes even half that at times). There would naturally be slightly slower speeds during congested times during the evening, but the R7000 would always be about 50% slower than if we were connected directly through the modem, bypassing the router. Before getting to what we did with the router, here is everything else that was done to isolate any other potential problems. Cox came out to the house multiple times. Network cables from the computer to the router and router to the modem were fine, but we replaced them with brand new CAT-7 cables anyway. Interior house coax cabling was fine and barrel connector were fine but connector replaced anyway. From the house to the tap, the cabling was fine. The tap checked out OK, but since it was old they replaced it anyway. The cabling from the tap to the post where cabling comes out of the street was fine, but they rebuilt the post anyway. The cabling in the street had one section that indicated some slight signal loss, so they replaced the cabling in the street. Back in the house, their test equipment was attached to the line ahead of our modem and regularly showed 315-330Mbs down and 31Mbps up. They reprovisioned our line at the central office, installed their modem on the coax, directly attached their modem to our computer and regularly got 300 or above on multiple occassions. They reprovisioned the line again, installed our modem on the coax, directly attached our modem to our computer and regularly got 300 or above on multiple occassions. Computer settings were checked to make sure everything was configured correctly and all unnecesary computer processes were stopped to make sure nothing was interfering. So, everything is OK on the ISP side and also with the computer and its cables. After making sure everything else was OK, we shut everything off, connected the computer back to the router and the router back to the modem, let the modem boot up completely, then let the router boot up completely, then let the computer boot up completely. After making sure all unnecesary processes were stopped, new speed tests were run showing slow 120-160 download speeds. Multiple tests over the past month connected to the router, whether by direct cable with wifi off on the computer and router, or whether connected by wifi consistently showed the slower speeds from the ISP's speed test and multiple internet speed test sites. And multiple tests while bypassing the router and being directly connected to the modem regularly showed 300-350. So the router was definitely the issue. Have we reset the router back to factory defaults? Yes. Have we been sure to download and install the latest firmware when it came out? Always - and there is where the problem is. We dutifully upgraded all the firmware releases up through the most current v1.09.18 (as of January, 2018). After reading others' posts, a number of them have talked about downgrading the firmware. Some have said v1.09.06 worked for them (but their rated line speed was, if I recall, much less than our 300/30). Others have said they have downgraded to v1.03.24 that had solved their problems (in fact, one of those people had a line rated at 400/40). Still others said v1.07.12 solved their problem. Hmm, was this the answer? After looking through our old speed test results from October, 2017, we noticed that when we upgraded our line in October from Premier 100/15 to Ultimate 300/30, we also upgraded our R7000 firmware from the 1.07.xx series to the 1.09.xx series - and that 's when our problems began. All along we thought the issue came from the ISP, thinking they either had equipment problems or that they had mis-provisioned our line when we switched to the faster plan. It turns out it was the firmware on the R7000 router. FINALLY - HERE'S THE FIX.We factory reset the router once again, downloaded and installed the v1.07.12 firmware, then again factory reset the router, direct connected to the router before rebuilding all our old settings, kept wifi turned off - and now we are regularly getting 300-350Mbps download from the router. After rebuilding all our old settings, turning wifi back on and still staying connected directly to the router, we are still getting 300-350 downloads. Removing the direct cable connection to the router and using the wifi from the computer to the router, we are regularly getting +/- 300Mbps downloads (of course depending on how close we are to the router). So that's the simple fix. I suspect there is something lurking in the 1.09.xx series firmware that is not allowing the router to efficiently handle higher rated line speeds (if you are at 150Mbps rated download or below, I'm guessing you are OK). Some people might say our settings weren't correct in the router when using the v1.09.xx firmware releases. I don't think that's the case since we tried everything AND we also factory reset the router while still using the v1.09.18 firmware. Hope this helps. This post was written January 10, 2018. The most recent firmware as of this date was v1.09.18, which caused us to have slow download speeds on the R7000 (much slower than our 300/30 line). If you're reading this after January, 2018, and you have slow speed issues with the router, and if the most current firmware is in the 1.09.xx series, I would suggest downgrading back to v1.07.12. UPDATE as of January 22, 2018: This fix has continued to work reliably. I'm consistently getting download speeds in upper 300's to lower 400's - either connected directly to the router or using wifi.21KViews0likes2CommentsCox Ultimate internet Package Speeds are very slow
Hi all, I have the Ultimate package and my internet speeds are very slow ~20-22 upload and download. Purchased a new modem which is listed on the Cox Certified Cable Modems page and had Cox cable run new cable from the pole to my house with very little change in my speeds when tested. All testing is performed by directly connecting to the router and not using the wifi. Other test I changed out the cat6 ethernet cable and retested with same results. Listed below are my specs on my setup. Just not sure if my connection issue goes beyond the pole or on my end. Any input would help. 1. Netgear - Model C6300 / DOCSIS 3.0 / 16x4 channel 2. Lenovo Thinkpad / win10 64 bit / 16 GB memory 3. New cable from pole to my house thanks, Abom13KViews0likes0CommentsUnstable upload speeds - need solution
I have had a tech out and he replaced the fittings on the coaxial cables, and they upload speeds were fine for 2 days. Then they start to become unstable again. Try streaming to twitch using obs and the last section i had 16384 frame drops andcant even stream smooth at 3000kbps My upload speed is supposed to be 30mbps, but it is very unstable , and the download speed is stable. Need solutions please without having to pay.10KViews0likes0CommentsWorst experiences ever
Over the last couple days I've spoken to agents online and on the phone, both were completely incompetent. I explained that I pay for gigablast but am only getting 110-140mbps and have already factory reset the modem, refreshed the signal, unplugged it, all the basics as I am in IT myself and more technical than most Cox agents I've ever interacted with. They then wanted to reset it again and still no improvement. They proceeded to schedule a tech visit which turned out to be 3 techs from a subcontracted company I've never heard of and after 2 hours, a new modem, changing my wifi password, and unplugging my Ethernet switcher had only managed to decrease my speeds further. They tried claiming that cox has never pushed 1000down and basically called me a liar when I mentioned I had when it was first installed. I finally showed them speedtest screenshots and all they did was start blaming my computer, ethernet cable, modem's placement, anything they could think of. My computer is a top of the line beast by the way so that was out of the question. They finally left with no clear answer or explanation so since then I've tried calling in for the last 2 hours and either get transferred, hung up on, or they lie and say they can't hear me. When I do get someone who actually talks, all they do is read from a script and ignore anything I say. I say the modem is brand new and the techs just left yet they want to start the whole rigmarole of resetting and refreshing the signal. I tell them the light is steady white and am immediately asked to let them know when the lights stop flashing...I tell them techs were just here and replaced the modem and the reply is "I'll send a tech out but if it's due to damage you caused the modem you will pay $75" Each agent (5+) I've spoken to would not discuss any credits to my bill or reimbursement for receiving a fraction of the speed I pay for. Finally I ask for a manager and am transferred to be greeted by a machine saying you're closed. This has by far been the worst customer experience I've ever encountered.6.8KViews3likes13CommentsSpeed problems : SOLVED ! More than likely Windows 10 default settings here's a tip that works

I hate to add to the list but I'm another Gigablast customer who is not receiving anything NEAR the Gigablast speeds after moving about 3 miles to a Cox area. In fact, my speeds have gotten worse. I came from a Comcast/Xfinity area where my speeds were much better and to be honest...I kind of miss them. I set up everything, I'm rather tech-savvy so I had a brand new Netgear CM1200 modem (had a CM1000 before) and Nighthawk X4S Router (R7800) set up in early May. Previously-used and reliable CAT6/7 cables. Got everything hooked up and Cox came out to fix some wiring and such. I get online and my speeds at best are hitting 370 mbps DOWN/and the advertised 35 mbps UP for my area. I have my iMac wired into the router (and have swapped it into the modem for some tests) and link speed for the ethernet is definitely 1 gig. Upload speeds are consistent as advertised. We had an outage or SOMETHING yesterday on Friday. May 7th according to Cox Internet Support and not my speed are even WORST...I'm hitting 285 DOWN and still got the 35 UP. What the heck? I had a tech out a few days before to check wiring and the usual. He said the typical "you should be getting gig speeds"..I'm not even getting HALF of gig speeds. He couldn't come in to check the modem but we did a swap with a Panoramic Cox Modem and the speeds were the SAME (370 DOWN/35 UP). Completely unacceptable and I'm a *new* customer (my parents had Cox when I lived at home). I understand everyone is at home and such, but how are my speeds progressively getting worse? Anyone else in the Northern Virginia area (I'm in Falls Church/Bailey's Crossroads) that has similar experiences? Any advice? Thanks.4.8KViews0likes22CommentsGigablast Upload Speed Reduced
A couple of months ago, our family upgraded to the Cox Gigablast Internet package. Over the phone, we were promisedGigabit download and upload since we live in a new neighborhood with dedicated FTTP service. The Internet speed has always been sufficient as what was promised, however today when I did a speed test, I only got ~70 Mbps upload. A few more tests averaged only about 30-70 Mbps, sometimes a bit more. Has something changed? I don't believe it is any of our equipment.4.8KViews0likes2CommentsCox Panoramic Modem March 2020
If you don't want to read this paragraph at the bottom about me complaining about Cox, then just read this: " The Cox Panoramic wifi modem/router that you rent for 11$ a month does not work the way it is advertised, and you are much better off going with a separate modem and router that is meant for providing high speed internet service". This type of internet works for laptops, Netflix, and basic streaming services. But when it comes to playing online video games, forget it. Even if you use the ethernet, you only will get between 200-300Mbps download, and 2.9Mbps upload speed. These speeds still lag when you play online video games". I decided to upgrade my service to cox Gigablast as of 20March2020. With the world under quarantine, especially the entire state of California, I said okay I definitely cannot deal with the Lag on PS4 that I have been dealing anymore. So I went to the local cox store after setting up my new service online and picked up my device. The customer service representative said it wasn't necessary that I rent the device, as I could buy a separate modem and router from Best Buy or where-ever, but it would cost about $400 with a separate modem and router. I decided to try out the cox panoramic modem+router combo that they offer for 11$ a month. I go home, plug it in and it was a super easy set up using the app for it. I connect it to my PS4 and test the connection. This piece of garbage (which is supposed to put out up to 900+ mbps basically almost 1 Gbps) only put out 24.9 Mbps download and 2.4 Mbps upload. This is down right criminal at these speeds. But before I called my lawyer, I decided to call tech support, so that someone could come out and see if the signal needs to be adjusted at my apartments. They are supposed to come out tomorrow (March 23, 2020) and hopefully fix it. Just the fact that I have to go the extra mile, and MAYBE get the issue fixed is absolutely ridiculous. My apartments are literally ONLY able to get Cox service. Isn't this considered a MONOPOLYat this point, since there is no other competition available? I have always had so many issues with cox, and its sad that they can't provide the working class of the America a fast internet service, especially whatwe are paying them for. I will hopefully remember to make another post tomorrow afterPAYING a tech support member a FEE in order to get my SERVICE that I justPAID for to WORK like it is ALREADY SUPPOSED TO. If it doesn't, well maybe I need to start putting this money that I am paying for this BS service towards law school, so that I can sue them into bankruptcy. Either that or call my friend at the local new station and put this company in the spotlight. Oh and if you don't believe me, then why would they sell cox Panoramic Pods separately? I have my PS4 sitting right next to the wifi box and it doesn't do any better than 24.9mbps. if you plug it in via ethernet, the best that I got was just below 300mbps. This is a speed that still lags during a online video game like Call of Duty. If you don't want to read this paragraph above about me complaining about Cox, then just read this: " The Cox Panoramic wifi modem/router that you rent for 11$ a month does not work the way it is advertised, and you are much better off going with a separate modem and router that is meant for providing high speed internet service". As the title says, I have a panoramic cox modem that will NOT allow me to keep my 5ghz manual channel selection for long or it outright refuses to change it even if I hit save changes. The only band-aid I have currently is to constantly unplug/re-plug the modem so I can change the channel again. However, this is short lived, as the modem decides to have a mind of its own and not honor my decision, thus making me waste my time having to restart the modem constantly. I have also tried setting my online cox modem settings to match the channel selection I did manually by logging into my router. Nevertheless, the modem still won't listen to me. I live in an apartment complex with a ton of 5ghz bands, so this is a major issue for me. If I keep it on the congested channels (automatic channel selection) I only get around 200-250mbps on wifi. When I use the manual selection (and when it actually works) I'm getting super close or over my 500mbps speeds I pay for.3.5KViews0likes8Comments
