Ping Spikes each minute
Hi, I have been trying to resolve this issue for a while now. I have had 2 technicians come out now, spoken with 4 customer representatives online and gone up to the Cox store once on top of signing up for the Cox complete care and still the issue is not resolved. I am on ethernet and have tested my pc after kicking all other devices off of the network this has not worked. I was initially suspicious that it could be a node congestion problem but I am unsure. I have run pingplotter and see that every minute or so there are very higher spikes upwards of 500ms sometimes. Recently I was disqualified from an online tournament from this issue. Which is extremely frustrating especially because I am at a loss with this. The first technician ran some test ran some tests off of his gameboy color and told me he was 99% sure that it was the PW3 Cox router/modem I had that was less than 1.5 years old, he didn't have a spare so I was advised to go up to cox to replace it. Once I tested the new PW6 I had the same problem so another technician was sent out. To which he advised this would have to go higher as it above them. I reached out to customer support to inquire and they offered to escalate the issue. Today and went to check the status of this only to discover that there was no evidence of this every being recorded. I have tried to take action on this as best as I could and am happy to hear some advise or suggestions on the matter. Unfortunately I have spend alot of time and money now dealing with Cox and have not gotten anywhere.1.1KViews0likes4CommentsValorant ping is disapointingly high
Hello, I've been playing Valorant for 2+ years now. I live in the Northwest Arkansas area where the ping on Texas servers is usually 50-60+. I have to connect to Illinois servers to get at least 30 ping on their servers, but even so it shouldn't be 50+ ping on Texas servers. My friends have AT&T for their wifi and they are able to get at least 15 - 20 ping on Texas servers easily. I'm not sure why that is, but its very frustrating only being able to play on Illinois since that is the only server that I can comfortably play on without lagging too much. I would like to know the reasoning and if there is a reasoning to why the ping to Texas servers isdisappointingly high.425Views0likes0CommentsNew home same equipment Internet outages 15 to 20 times daily
I just moved 20 miles from my old house. I am using all the same equipment. I have the same Cox Internet package. It was not going out at my last home but at my new home it goes out about 15 to 20 times per day. We do not have a lot of devices at all. I’ve had two technicians come out and troubleshoot and they say there is no problem with their signal. The speed test shows fine sometimes and other times the ping is over 400, along with all the other readings are way off. When I run the speed test it shows optimal server is spark light or century link. Any suggestions?383Views0likes1CommentLots of Jitter, Tons of Packet Loss
Hey there! I have been having severe packet loss and lag in games lately and noticed my ping spiking quite a bit. I contacted Cox, and I was told everything looked fine on my end and the node in my neighborhood was overloaded because of COVID. I had a tech come out about a month ago and he reiterated the overloaded node issue and installed an attenuator on our line. I followed up with COX about a week ago and they sent out a supervisor who just knocked on the door, said the same thing about the overloaded node, and left. Didn't make any changes or attempt to do any diagnostics. They said they split my node on Friday, but I am still seeing a lot of issues. I just ran some of my own diagnostics and found some interesting info. I ran pingplotter and MTR on Google and EAs servers (I mostly play Apex Legends). I discussed the results with some more technical friends who believe it might not just be a local issue but rather peering congestion between COX and Zayo. Please see the images below. https://ibb.co/ThD2R7Z https://ibb.co/ysC10pt https://ibb.co/BsY2G3Z https://ibb.co/8BH34rC We have Gigablast and have just upgraded both our modem and router. I am kind of lost with what to do currently. I have seen people file FCC complaints with some success. But certain applications are just unusable with the jitter and packet loss I am getting. Thank you!2.4KViews0likes7CommentsHigh Ping (Cox Gigablast, Wired)
Hello, For the past 2 months my ping has been averagely between 75 - 120 with huge spikes between. My connection was fine before . I've been trying different ways to improve it with no success. For Example: New ethernet wire, different combinations within Cox App, checking comp firewalls, VPN, checking comp for network hogs. I got Cox for gaming and it was great but now it is a lag fest online.2KViews0likes6CommentsUnbearable ping and packet loss on rocket league.
I’ve been on this forum for almost a year trying to get some resolution to this issue. I see that I’m not alone. Trying to chime in on other discussions related to this issue come up short because all of the discussions are locked. We need to keep the screws tightened on Cox. This issue is ridiculous and has been going on for too long. I have no other ISP options in my area but I’m thinking about getting a hotspot until I can figure something out. Let me know if anyone else has figured out a fix. Cox will just tell you to check your cables, reboot router and hardwire into the modem. None of these things are the issue or resolve the problem.496Views0likes0CommentsMassive gaming ping fluctuation - I’ve tested everything
When connecting to game servers a few states away, my ping is higher than colleagues who connect to the same server from Paris France. I have friends who connect from other ISPs in LA about an hour south of me and get 70 ping when I get 140. I’m not losing packets locally on my setup. I’ve ran ping traces to the servers and find that I get massive jitters in latency across most of my hops. I’ve talked to multiple representatives, one told me to get a better modem, which I did, and the other said it’s likely due to everyone being at home with my town’s stay at home orders and nothing can be done and tried to upsell me on a streaming box (???). I’m down $150 from trying to fix this and have no results. I get that things are under high load right now but people with other ISPs aren’t having this issue, so if this is truly due to my local switch being overloaded, can I at least get some info regarding my options, because as it is, I’m paying for a service and I’m not able use it in a completely reasonable way. I’m on Ethernet by the way, and somehow get a better connection off of LTE hotspot which should not be the case. I kind of feel like I’ve exhausted my options at this point, and whenever I call, I’m walked through the same trivial troubleshooting steps that any technical person would know to try before reaching out, and it’s getting quite tiring.2.4KViews0likes9CommentsHorrible Ping Spikes (Tried many solutions)
tl;dr is at the bottom ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For awhile now I've been experiencing very small spikes in pretty much all games I play. I'm using a wired connection to my PC. As for what kind of internet I have, it is Gigablast from Cox. I've attempted to use their support multiple times, but on there end it seems like there are no issues so I'm kind of at a lost. I recently got a new router too, going from a Netgear Nighthawk to Cox's Panoramic Gateway. Valorant, CSGO, and Rocket League are the ones I have the biggest problems with. I've updated all of my drivers (network, graphics, and chipset), bios, and windows hoping for some sort of fix but to no avail. Resetting my modem/router does nothing, its on the latest firmware, and I've tried multiple channels for my Wi-Fi (I know it doesn't really change my wired connection's perfomance but im desperate) If you're experienced with Valorant, I use both the text and graphics display for system performance. I can see very miniscule packet loss spikes that go all the way up to 100%, but it only lasts for fractions of a second. In CSGO and Rocket League, their network performance displays do not detect any problems. CSGO claims that my performance is fine, with consistent +300 fps, pretty stable ping, and 0% loss in netgraph_1 , but while playing I can see pretty big stutters every couple minutes. I use Command Prompt on the side, and consistently ping 8.8.8.8 (as recommended on the searches I did), I can see spikes that go upwards from 100ms, where as it usually sits roughly around 20ms. Very occasionally the requests even time out. Flushing/renewing my DNS and different ethernet cables dont work. Im completely at a loss. My friends said turning setting MoCA on might fix it, but the setting doesnt enable for whatever reason. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TL;DR - I get many small spikes in packet loss and ping on my wired connection. Updating windows, bios, and all drivers didn't fix it. Got a new router 2 months ago but the problem still persists. Cox reports back as there are no issues in my network. If anyone has any idea as to what is happening or a potential fix, I'm all ears. good afternoon, i recently udgraded tp gigablast in hopes to lower my ping on xbox live games put is got even worse. what do i need to do in order to lower my latency? im using a CM1000 netgear modem and a Nighthawk R9000 Router. my ping on xbox, call of duty servers, and speed test through the xbox using multiple different sites is 327mb down, 30 up and ping of 130-160. and im hardwired. ping on every other device is sub 30.1.4KViews0likes4CommentsCrazy Lag and Packet Loss
Hoping to get more help here than I did with Cox customer support. I have had this ISP for about 2 months now and my connection has been horrible. Things load fine on wifi for the most part butanytime I am hardwired into my router, I have horrible packet loss. This makes gaming a huge pain in the **** and I have tried almost everything I can think of to fix it but nothing changes. Now, Xbox live and the games I play like to report that I am getting maybe about 1% packet loss but the gameplay is much much worse than just 1%. Even when I hardwire my computer into the router and run a ping test, it shows about 15-20% packet loss. Does anyone have any suggestions that I should try? Here is a list of things I have already tried: Used Cox provided modem/router: terrible packet loss on ethernet and wifi (mostly ethernet) Modem isfor sureplugged into the coax port very securely Changed ethernet ports:issue still persists Set up Xbox live port forwarding:issue still persists Setup QoS:issue still persists Tried entirely new ethernet cables:issue still persists Tried gaming on wifi:issue still persists (and I am not a heathen) Factory reset modem/router:issue still persists Switched the provided router/modem combo intobridge modeso it only acts like a modem I am now using my TP-Link AC1750 router:still terrible packet loss on wifi and ethernet (mostly ethernet) Set up QoS rules for bandwidth:issue still persists Setup port forwarding:issue still persists Reset xbox:issue still persists Manually set IP and DNS:issue still persists I have also ran a bunch of traceroute tests as well as ping tests to show where it appears to be slowing down and losing the packets. You can see all of these tests in the folder linked here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1i59D5DTk2O7UvL0WBrqJYVITDr305hvT?usp=sharing All the slowdowns and packet losses appear to happenoutside of my network. It looks like it hits slowdowns when it is out in Cox's servers bouncing around. Is there anything that I can do to fix this? It looks like there is an issue with resolution of domains. My traceroutes to 8.8.8.8 show an unusual amount of dropped packets and lag at certain servers. PLEASE HELP!!1.2KViews0likes2Comments
