IMAP for Cox stopped working
I've been using IMAP with my Cox account as well as several other services for many months now. IMAP still works for the other services, but I can't login to the Cox IMAP server any longer. The problems began last month. These are the settings that were successful before: cox.imap.com, port 993 using SSL. Cox user name without the cox.net. smtp.cox.net, port 587 using TLS. Full email address for outgoing server authentication. The problem seems to be only with the IMAP server authentication because SMTP is successful some of the time. My other IMAP accounts that are not hosted by Cox still work. Did the Cox IMAP server name or port number change recently? Do you know how I can get IMAP working again? I have setup Cox IMAP (according to the Cox online instructions) with Outlook 365 and I am using it on multiple Macs and PCs. Although it works fine, it does not synchronize properly across devices. In other words, when I read and delete emails one one Mac, when I load Outlook 365 on another machine, the same emails still show unread. I also maintain several GoDaddy email accounts as well as a Google GMail account using Outlook 365 and none of these problems occur with those accounts. Setting up my cox email account on my iPhone 5s, it gives me an error during the autoconfig that the password for imap.cox.net is incorrect. I can sign into my webmail account just fine on any computer. I've even changed my email password a couple times but no matter what I do I can not setup my cox webmail because I can't get past this error. I spent time with the cox.net support representative and they couldn't solve this issue. I also spent time talking to Microsoft today (to solve an unrelated issue) and they helped me out with this one as well, but to no avail. No matter what I did, Outlook 365 will not connect to cox.net. Procedures tried: recommended cox.net settings for both IMAP and POP email. both don't work Variations on all settings (SPA, ports, etc.),made no difference using a brand-new Outlook profile. No change using other email programs. In my case, I used Thunderbird to access the IMAP server with no problems, sending or receiving email. verified password and connection to cox webmail. Check! I'm honestly not sure at this point how to solve my problem. Am I just stuck with another email program? My husband has an iPhone 4S that was successfully receiving our Cox emails. However, he wasn't able to send emails from the Cox account on his phone. When I tried to add a "test" account to his phone, I was happily surprised that settings were automatically detected and I didn't have to enter any server or port settings. I sent him a test email, he replied, the new account could both receive and send, everything seemed great. I deleted the original account from the phone. The next day, my husband said that emails he'd read on his phone had disappeared. After searching both Cox and Apple support pages and forums yesterday, it seems that at least part of the problem is, when I add an email account, once I enter the Cox info, it says "Verified" and takes me to the next screen that says "IMAP" right across the top. There's no POP option, which we had before. The mail settings with IMAP include options like How long to keep deleted items, but nothing about keeping messages in the Inbox. Maybe the idea with IMAP *is* to get rid of messages you've already read -- I hadn't heard of IMAP until this experience -- but if that's the case, then we want our POP option back, so my husband can refer back to a recent message that he's already read on his phone. Hello, I have an email account with Cox which I have not used in several years. I'd like to start using it again, but I can't seem to access my account. I've tried the following: IMAP: All of the correct server addresses are autodetected by my mail client (Thunderbird) but my password is rejected. POP3: Same, server settings look correct but my password is rejected. Webmail (Classic): After sign in, I am directed to https://webmail.west.cox.net/denied/upsell and cannot view my email account. Webmail (Enhanced): I get directed to my Cox Account page as if I'd signed in to www.cox.com directly. If I click on either of the email links (i.e. 'Cox Email' at the top or 'View Cox Email' in the Internet section) it just reloads the page. I see the webmail behavior with both Firefox and Chromium; I installed Chromium specifically to test this in another browser, so that I would not have any plugins or extensions that would interfere with page loading. I'm switching between Classic/Enhanced by clearing cache/cookies and then visiting webmail.cox.net. The old (?) login form seems to let me switch between the two. While working on this I have signed in and out of www.cox.com several times, so I don't think I'm locked out. I am not sure how I would be able to tell. What's the best way to go about getting this fixed? I first noticed this a few weeks ago, so I would hope my account is not still in the middle of a migration or something like that. How do I set up my account so I receive email on all of my devices (Outlook on my computer, iPhone and iPad). As it is now, the email randomly goes to one device or another, not all three. For example, I might receive an email on my iPhone but the same email does not go to my computer's Outlook, or vice-versa. Is this because of IMAP - if so, how do I switch to POP? I just recently purchased an iPhone 6 for my wife. I've upgraded to the latest iOS and I can't seem to get my cox mail on it. When I set up the account on her phone it turns into an IMAP account instead of a POP3 account. I just switched from a POP account to an IMAP account and love the way it is syncing between my laptop, phone, and the server. The one issue that I can't resolve is that items in my TRASH are being permanently deleted automatically after a day or two. The only emails in the trash are ones from Today and Yesterday. I want them left there until either I delete them permanently or at least two weeks. On my iphone, I have it set to delete after one month. In Outlook 2013, I have the box Unchecked that says delete when closing outlook. I also have the box Unchecked that says to purge the folder when switching folders.
