Some devices will not pick up wireless network
Hi - I have a lot of wireless devices: laptops, galaxy tablets, cell phone, TVs. When searching for my wireless network (in order to connect), the network always populates - I choose it, enter my password & it connects. 2 device types used to pick up my wireless network & connect with a password - without an issue. But in the last month, the following has occurred: Nook #1, which had connected to my wireless network for months, all of a sudden would not connect - in the list of wireless networks, mine appeared but it said "not in range." I did all the troubleshooting steps - rebooted the router, unplugged everything. Plugged it back in. Turned the Nook off & on....reset to factory settings. Everything. Still - when I search for my network, it's not there. The network from the dance studio in the strip mall behind the woods of my house - shows up. Not mine which is in the same room as my Nook. Nook #2. Yes - I have 2 nooks. The second one did exactly the same thing. It had connected without issue. When Nook #1 had the problem above, I checked Nook #2. Same issue. Tried the same things - doesn't work. Both Nooks are less than 6 months old. Brother MFC-L8600CDW. The printer is several years old but has never given me problems. I do not print every day but yesterday, needed to print something. It was offline. It will do this from time to time but I'm always able to search for my network, choose it & with my password, get back online. Not today. The network does not show up as an option. I've tried all the things I've tried with the Nook. Did something change recently with router settings? The other devices connect fine - but TBH, I do not want to "forget" my network on a laptop or tablet for fear that it will not find the network again. App crashes constantly (multiple times during a single 1 hour long show). DVR looks up and/or becomes unresponsive a few times a month. Just swapped out the DVR today and lost all our recordings, hoping this would resolve the issue. Nope, 2 netflix failures right off the bat. Went to the netflix app on our TV, watched 3 episodes with zero issues. Seriously rethinking why I have this DVR and/or even use the apps. I understand that many in the world have Netflix accounts but I do not and don't want to purchase one. Therefore it is really annoying that as I am searching through my on-demand that I am unable to filter out what is available on Cox on-demand vs Netflix. Please don't misunderstand; I think Cox' offering of Netflix as an additional source for on demand viewing is terrific and proactive. For sure they aren't going to up and fade away because of competition. However, be prepared to wait. and wait. and wait for it to load using Contour 2. If you already have a streaming device (Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Chromecast or Roku) I would heavily recommend using that instead of Contour. I tried unplugging the DVR which is connected to the TV I attempted to view Netflix on demand on---no joy there. I have a Samsung "smart tv", and a Tivo, both are connected via wireless to my internet service with Cox. Both, are super slow, lag, or quit on me, telling me my internet speed is too slow, or my connection is lost, etc. This happens when I am using Netflix, or Amazon Prime to watch movies (or tv episodes). And it happens whether I am streaming through my TV or through my Tivo. Only one is used at at a time, no other wireless is used in my house while I'm trying to use the TV/or Tivo. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can fix this? (do I need to upgrade internet speed, buy better wireless adapters for TV and Tivo; connect directly to modem??? or anything else?) Initially I tried a ping to netflix.com and every request timed out. I figured maybe their servers don't accept incoming pings so I tried a tracert next and this is what came back..... The last time I checked, Amazon didn't own Netflix, nor are they an ISP and they certainly don't own Cox.
