I took advantage of this, and received the Technicolor CGM4141 modem (looks previously used). It’s so loud - the fan vibrates and is just terrible. I’d have to wrap this in styrofoam and keep it locked in the garage to use this thing at my house. So I returned the modem, and went back to my nice silent Arris TG1682 Panoramic modem. They offered to replace with a newer Technicolor modem, but why go through the trouble if they are all this loud? Does anyone else have this problem with the CGM4141? And if they replace the modem with a different 3.1 Panoramic modem, are they all this horribly loud? 2 Year Contract Expiring - Any Suggestions? My 2 year contract with Cox is expiring next month - currently on the 500/50 plan for $49/month. Really worried that this will shoot up. Has anyone seen ads or had any good renewal contracts lately? Or any suggestions on who to contact/call before my contract expires for a good renewal? I'm in Irvine CA, and Cox Cable is the only choice for high-speed internet (other than ATT DSL with max speed at 100/10, and ATT truly stinks), so I can't really threaten to cancel. On the other hand, Cox has been great - actual speeds are higher than advertised and very reliable service, so I'd be happy with another long contract with Cox, though really want to stay at the current rate (or as close as possible). Re: new 500/50 10% plan Fyi, i get 500+ down andaround 27-29 up with the same plan and Docsis 3.0 24/8 modem. My Cox homepage says 500/50, so i guess there's some limit on the upload for Docsis 3.0. I'm not buying a new modem for a bit more upload speed. Free Modem Upgrade I’m due for a free modem upgrade in February. I currently have the Arris TG1682 on the 250/10 plan, and everything works great, with average speeds around 280/14. Is there any reason to take advantage of the Cox program for a free modem upgrade every 2 years, if everything is currently working better than expected (i.e. other than getting a newer modem)? Thanks for the input... Cox Renewal Deals My 2-year contract (and associated discount) ends within the month. Has anybody had any luck lately renewing with Cox and getting a good deal? If so, who did you speak to about this? Did you go into a Cox store, call the local Cox customer service number, or just renew using the on-line app and/or text box? Extremely limited with choices in Orange County CA - either Cox or ATT-dsl (both about the same price, though that’s with my current Cox discount). Cox has a faster download on my current program (150 vs 100) while ATT-dsl has a faster upload (15 vs 10); so there’s no real benefit of threatening to go to ATT, other than ATT has the absolute worst customer service out there. Any help or suggestions on this would be appreciated. Technicolor CGM4141 Modem A thrift store near me has a couple of Technicolor CGM4141 Cox modems for sale for $20. If I get one of these, anybody have any idea if I’ll be able to use it? I don’t see these on the Cox website as owned modems, though they say Cox on them. The specs are great for $20 - Docsys 3.1 and 32x8 channels - much better than my old 3.0 modem. Re: what brand mesh networks will work with my Cox router I have Google WiFi mesh with my TG1682 modem. Works great. I disabled the wifi on the modem, and use it as a hard wired router to the Google WiFi mesh system. And if I need to go to a different provider (or bring my own modem) when my 2 year contract is up next month, then its just plug and play, and the Google Mesh system still works with no tweaking whatsoever. There’s newer/faster mesh systems out there, all of which will probably work, but Google Mesh WiFi is simple, rock solid/reliable, and has excellent range. Re: Panoramic + Mesh I disabled the 2.4 and 5ghz radios, and just plugged theprimary mesh router into one of the panoramic modem ports. Putting the modem into bridge mode was a terrible idea, as it disables all but one of the ethernet ports, and nothing else hard-wired to the modem will work. Just disabling the radios worked great, and the CoxWifi hotspot still works, allowing you to feed some devices on the hotspot and not get dinged for usage. Re: Panoramic wifi reach Mesh systems are great - I have the Google/Nest mesh and have no problem getting Wifi throughout my house. The Cox Panoramic mesh pods would work also, but I've heard mixed reviewson these (at least compared to Google mesh or Eero mesh). Re: Keep losing WiFi at other end of house Mesh routers are great!!! I have the Google wifi router, and have service throughout the house, yard, and garage. The newer Nest router has even more throughput, and I've heard good things about Eero as well.
