I just signed up with Cox and I've had nothing but problems with my DVR. I've had it replaced once. At first my DVR was wiping out all of my recordings. That has since been resolved with the replacement. I've been having the following problems lately:
1. Recordings being corrupt and not being able to watch them
2. Recording a currently airing show, click the record button, click confirm but it doesnt actually record the show
3. Cancelling series but it continues to record them
4. different rooms show different recordings
5. The most frustrating is sports shows. A football game that is airing for 3.5 hours on the guide records for up to 5 hours which causes conflicts with other recordings
Cox's only response is to reboot the DVR. So to use Cox cable I have to reboot the DVR twice a day?
Update: I rebooted and now the remote works! So happy. However, earlier I had enabled closed caption because I couldn't hear the announcers on the Seattle game because the crowd was so loud. Now, the closed caption words have moved from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen and now cover up the contour menu when I enter it. The pain continues.
The supervisor and tech came out yesterday and put my DVR on one line in the house. The responsiveness of the remote seems better however the guide issues continue. This appears to be something not related to my box.
I recorded "Live Coverage: Tracking Michael" on the weather channel (51) which runs from 11am to 7pm however on my DVR there was only 1 hour recorded and the recording was titled "Channel: WEATHHD - 51".
Yes some have been recorded. I've had two additonal issues today:
1. A football game I recorded ended abrubtly after only recording for 4 minutes 34 seconds.
2.I recorded the WVU and Iowa St. football game on FS1. I just attempted to record the USC Colorado game that starts immediately after the WVU / Iowa St. game on the same channel and was told I had to cancel another recording because of too many conflicts. The recording system is so stupid it's overlapping recordings on the same channel.
Why doesn't it end the first recording on time and start the new recording on time???? I'm beginning to believe that some of the issues I'm having are related to poorly written programming (ie. software programmers) that Cox has hired contracted out with.
I checked under the "options" for WVU / Iowa State and looked at "end recording:". It's listed as "on time" which is the default. Apparently whoever wrote the code decided to set the recording times of sporting events to automatically add 30-90 minutes to the program to ensure that the game would be recorded if it ran long. Unfortunaley this cause conflicts when recording multiple programs.
I tried to set the recording to "end recording: 5 minutes early" but theres no option to end a program early. I think a bug fix needs to be submitted to whoever is in charge of these software options and / or create some escalation ticket so a root cause solution can be found / implemented.
Another issue. I go to record the USC game at 7:30 since the Iowa State game is over. I clcik the record button and it says its going to record the game but when I go in to my recordings, nothing is there. I attempt to record it again then I notice that even though the guide shows the USC game staring at 7:30, the "confirmation" of the recording shows the future recording as 7:34pm (its 7:32). When nothing records at 7:34 I try to record it again then realize it shows that the the game will start at 7:38. The recording starts at 7:38 but when I try and play it it says that the recording can not be played. Theres obviously a channel guide that the customer sees and a recording guide that tries to capture sporting events so the whole even is recorded. None the less, it doesnt work and causes more issues than it tries to resolve
Since I can't watch the recording of the USC game even though it shows it being recorded, I try and delete it. It says the recording has been deleted even though it still shows up under recordings. I edit the recording and adjust the end time to 1.5 hours late (instead of on time (which is BS)) just to see if I can delete it. I go back in to recordings and voila....ITS GONE. I didn't even have to delete it. I try and record the USC game again but it wont record...waaawaaaaa. I reboot the DVR and record the USC game. This time it works. Unfortunaley again, on the guide it shows the game will run from 7:30 to 11:00 (3.5 hours). Its now 8:15 and the recording is showing that it will record from 8:15 until 12:35am (4 hours and 20 minutes).
I just realized that after the reboot the DVR deleted both the Michigan / Wisconsin game and Iowa State / West Virginia games I recorded.
