Trouble with using router with MDU

Hi,

I moved to a new apartment with a Multi-Dwelling Unit, MDU. I was fine using MDU with my computers and phones, both wired and wireless, but connecting all other devices, such as a smart TV, was hard. So I bought a router to ease up connection for other devices, but it seems like it's causing trouble right now. Every single day, I have to reboot my router because it loses internet connection. Right now, there is a modem hooked up in the wall, which provides LAN ports to every room, and in one of the rooms, I set up the router, which connects to my desktop through LAN and other devices wirelessly. The technician came and checked the log and said that the log seemed fine and had no error messages. Is MDU just not compatible with any routers, or do I have to set up specific settings to use the router, such as IP settings or MAC settings?

Right now, I'm using BE11000, using dynamic IP with default WAN MAC. Using IoT for small devices and DHCP enabled. If needed, I can share other settings too.

  • Shimjoony, if you have a modem/router in a smart panel design.  That supplies Ethernet ports to each room.  Inserting a router into one of these rooms may be causing a conflict in internal routing.  A switch may help with wired connections.  To help with wireless connections.  Adjusting channel settings may help with wireless stability.  If you would like us to test your connection.  Please email us at cox.help@cox.com for assistance anytime.
