Does your laptop have a Gigabit ethernet adapter?
Yes, and I was using a Cat8 and Cat7 cables to test

Try running Net Adapter Repair AIO to reset your network adapter to it's default settings and see if that fixes it. Sometimes those adapters can get hung up on one particular speed and they never change until you fully reset them. That will reset everything.

Thanks! But I have Macs. KNow anything similar for them?

The Macs don't really have the same issues the Windows computers do when it comes to the network adapters. That being said it is possible to add and remove the connection in the Network area in System Preferences.
So if you don't mind me asking what exactly is the topology of your network? It goes from Modem to router directly to the laptop? Does it make a difference when you plug directly into the modem?
