Cox when power goes out.

During a power outage, does Cox signal still come to the home?  I’m considering a generator and I’m curious if i could still have internet / wifi during an outage, or if Cox loses its signal in the neighborhood when power goes out.

It depends on how widespread the outage is, but if you're only experiencing a local outage in your neighborhood, then yes, you could have Internet if you had power.  A battery backup provides temporary power that allows Internet access until shutdown occurs.  If you had a generator, you could have continued Internet access during the local outage.

In our neighborhood in Broken Arrow, Ok, if we lose power, we lose internet. We have a generator but, of course, without internet access there’s no TV or any home WiFi so there’s no streaming or browsing. It’s very aggravating. We have gone to the expense to maintain home power. It seems like Cox could do their part and keep their equipment powered up.

Hello BenNovak. I certainly understand your frustration. If power goes out in an neighborhood, then power is out in our equipment, just the same. In some cases, we would also utilize gas powered generators to maintain power in a node. However, this is usually done when power will be out for extensive periods of time. We work closely with the power companies to ensure that our techs are on standby once the power is back on. Hope that helps.
