Humming noise in Technicolor fiber router
I’m on my 2nd Technicolor gateway, and it’s making the same annoying humming noise as the previous. Does Cox have another option for fiber routers that won’t slowly drive me insane, because I absolutely cannot stand listening to that all day.62Views1like2Commentsunable to log into the admin settings on my Panoramic router

I am using a SBG580 wireless cable modem gateway to connect to the Cox network. I recently purchased a Netgear 2100 gateway and an Asus wifi 6 AP. I want to disable the gateway/router functions from the SBG6580 and have the Netgate 2100 do those functions. I should be able to accomplish this if I set the SBG6580 to act as a bridge device and Cox registers a MAC address for public IP assignment. I have setup the SBG6580 in the following way to do this: Changed "Primary Network Only Mode" from "routed" to "bridged". The docs say when it is set to bridged it "Disables the network address and port translation settings on the gateway." This is the only setting I have on the device to change routing/NATP functions on the WAN side. Disabled DHCP Disabled WiFi On the Netgate I set the WAN port to request DHCP addressing, and also I have set the MAC address to the HFC MAC address of the SBG6580, the same MAC address that Cox has registered to allow my device to operate on their network. When I boot up the devices, the Netgate doesn't get assigned an IP address. Additionally theSBG6580 still requests a public DHCP address and gets one assigned to it. Is this because when I first connected the device to the Cox network I gave them the HFC MAC, the SBG6580 boots up, Cox sees that MAC and assigns the IP? I have tried to release the DHCP lease, then reboot the Netgate to see if it will get assigned a DHCP address, but that does not work even though the SBG6580 does release the IP. I have tried to get the native MAC address of the Netgate registered so that it can request a public IP address. I have called and live chatted with customer service several times so far to tell them I have a new device on my network that I would like registered so that it can get assigned at public IP address, but they have not been of any help so far. When I ask to speak to the next tier of customer service, they attempt to upsell me to "preferred customer service" package at additional cost, or they try to upsell me Cox Panoramic WiFi gateways. Has anyone reading this ever successfully setup a home network that simply uses the cable modem as modem only with a router on their home network. This is not a crazy setup at all, but Cox seems to want to prevent this from happening so they can sell me equpiment I guess? How can I explain to customer service what I want to do because none of them seem to have any comprehension that a cable modem does not need to be the wireless gateway. Any help would be appreciated greatly!Solved1KViews0likes6CommentsHigh-pitched sound from Cox Gateway
About a month ago, I switched to Cox as my internet service provider. The Cox technician installed a Technicolor CGM4140COM Panoramic Gateway here in the office next to my computer. From the start, the Gateway made a high-pitched humming or whirring sound when running. The sound was very distracting, and after a time when I was working here next to it, my right ear would feel discomfort or pressure. I called Cox to report the problem and was told I could go to the Solution Store and exchange the Gateway. I took it in and was given another CGM4140COM model. I hooked that one up, and it makes the same high-pitched sound as the original one. I now think the original one was not defective, but that all CGM4140COM Gateways make this sound. Have any of you experienced the same problem? If you have, do you have any tips or suggestions for how to remedy the problem? Thanks for your assistance.894Views0likes4CommentsModem that allows for RJ45 fiber connector (not coax) and has at least 1 useable ethernet port?
TLDR: I want a cable modem and router or combo thathas extra (working) ethernet ports to use with a ONT (RJ45 style) fiber connection for the internet input (not coax). Hi everyone, I just moved to a new house and Cox installed a Nokia Optical Network Terminal, which has an "ethernet" style connector for the modem / router. The modem / router combo that Cox provided has 1 extra ethernet port that does not seem to work. I'm trying to find a modem and router or combo device that will allow me to connect the fiber from the Nokia ONT and still provide at least 1 working ethernet port to hook up a router (if modem is standalone) or a computer I use as a server that I'd like to have a direct connection to the modem / router. I've been looking at the options all day and my worry is, everything seems to want to use a coax connector or limits the ethernet ports to only 1 working at a time. I get that the internet ethernet connection into a modem should work, but it seems to limit the rest of the ethernet ports on the device or some even say it won't work (as the ports aren't inputs but outputs, with the coax being the expected input). This is very frustrating for me as I had an older coax style hookup in my other house with a modem and router that I had purchased, and I know how to set those up. The Panoramic Gateway provided will not allow me to use the secondary ethernet port. I can also get internet access via WiFi for the computer I wanted to hardwire, but cannot see that device on the network in order to set up port forwarding. I feel like the Cox application to set stuff up is dumbed down so much that there is very little functionality. I can't find an option to point to the computer's IP to say "here is the computer you are already giving internet access to" in order to add it to the list of available devices for port froward. I really want to buy my own modem and router (or combo) but am afraid I won't be able to use the ethernet ports the way I want if I don't have a standard coax cable providing the internet connection. Any suggestions? Hello, I'm reaching out to ask how I can change the wifi channel used by my panoramic gateway/router. I have been having a lot of internet stuttering and lag recently. I thought the problem might resolve itself after the scheduled outage for system work on 3/15/2022. it didn't, so i changed my plan to a higher tier thinking there were more neighbors paying more, and i was getting slower speeds to keep bandwidth available. that didn't change anything either. After doing more homework I was led to look at the channel my hardware uses for wifi. This seems like a likely cause for the problem. I am on a channel with 15 other users that show a strong connection. there are 5ghz that are unused and available. i found that i can get to an older java interface through a browser by pointing it to the gateway, but that app says channels are automaticallycontrolled. any advice would be appreciated. regards, chris9.8KViews0likes9CommentsNew Panoramic Wifi - Now Laptop Won't Print to Wireless Network Printer
I don't print from my laptop often, but I believe this problem started after I switched to the Cox Panoramic Wifi modem/router when I upgraded my internet package. Every other device I have switched over no problem and prints to the printer just fine. My lap top just won't.the printer status is "offline". I've restarted both devices several times. I've disconnected the laptop from the network and reconnected it. Printer troubleshooter says it cannot fix the problem. I printed some status reports directly from my printer, and the best I can get is that "a router/access point channel conflict has been detected". I googled that and logged in to the router settings but cannot find any area that lets me change the channel. The Cox Wifi app certainly does not let me change the router channel. Side note that may be related or not? - the Cox Wifi app also thinks my laptop is "not connected" even though it *is* connected and accesses the internet just fine. The Cox Wifi app does see the printer as connected, which makes sense since other devices can print. I've also tried reinstalling the printer, but it not surprisingly can't find it to be able to reinstall. Please help?1.3KViews1like3CommentsData Harvesting & Devices w/uPnP IP addy
When I see the proof of this Orwellian ** in my router logs, I wonder what the hell is going on...? So...what? How?? and Why??! And dude, what the hell is up with this strange 192.168.147.100 existence? Why can't I check it out and see what is on the page...if there is anything to see...? I'm curious. Lastly, thirdly, what is the difference between the DOCSIS/Ethernet choice given in the GUI?303Views1like0Comments
