IMAP for Cox stopped working
I've been using IMAP with my Cox account as well as several other services for many months now. IMAP still works for the other services, but I can't login to the Cox IMAP server any longer. The problems began last month. These are the settings that were successful before: cox.imap.com, port 993 using SSL. Cox user name without the cox.net. smtp.cox.net, port 587 using TLS. Full email address for outgoing server authentication. The problem seems to be only with the IMAP server authentication because SMTP is successful some of the time. My other IMAP accounts that are not hosted by Cox still work. Did the Cox IMAP server name or port number change recently? Do you know how I can get IMAP working again? I'm spoiled by having my email synced across all my devices.Solved11KViews0likes11Commentsoutlook popup message requesting user name and password
Recently, every time Outlook does a send/receive of my email, it puts up a popup messagerequesting user name and password. Even though this information is stored, and even when I check the box telling it to store the information, it continues to put up this annoying popup. Is this a server issue or an Outlook issue?9.2KViews0likes16CommentsProblems with POP email account using Outlook?
Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know anything about what Cox is doing about it? I so don't want to call tech support again. It is incredibly aggravating all around, and they know it. I've been unable to use my POP account on Outlook 2013 for more than a day now. The "tier 2" tech support said yesterday that they had been working on a problem between MS Outlook POP and Cox servers since the previous evening (July 1). I've had periodic problems with my POP account and Cox off and on for a couple of years. I am not going to give up using a POP account, and I prefer the Outlook interface. I don't see the point in paying for a service that isn't working and doesn't suit my needs. Anyone?6.9KViews0likes14CommentsCan't send e-mail using Outlook, Mail (OS10.11.6) or Mail (iOS)
Okay, please bear with me cause this post will be somewhat long. Problem in a nutshell: I haven't been able to send e-mails since June 1st, 2017. I've chatted online with two tech reps, and today I discussed the issue on the phone with a fellow named Ron. Here's some info from the second online chat: Dear Cox, I chatted with one of your tech reps yesterday regarding my inability to send e-mails. After a lot of back & forth re: making sure that I had the correct POP e-mail account settings, she eventually found out and then told me that Cox was in the process of updating their “e-mail platform,” and that I should try again in a few hours. Could you please update me re: the status of this; it’s a day later and I’m still unable to send e-mails. Here’s the background info re: my issue: I am currently not able to send outgoing mail, although I was able to send mail on May 30th. I’m using Outlook 2011 as my e-mail client. My OS is El Capitan 10.11.6. I’m able to receive messages. I believe I have the correct POP settings as specified on your website page “Cox Email Server Settings.” When attempting to send an e-mail I get the following error: fed1rmimpo209.cox.net cox connection refused from 68.6.118.7 It’s very strange that I was able to send e-mails up to May 30th, but not able to June 1st. Please advise and update; any assistance and new info would be greatly appreciated! After waiting a day with no feedback or resolution, I started another chat, opening dialog as follows: Hello, there’s been an ongoing problem with me not being able to send e-mails using Outlook 2011 on my Mac-Mini (El Capitan, 10.11.6). I’ve chatted with several people to date, and have confirmed that I have the correct POP settings for my Cox account. The last person I spoke with submitted a support ticket, and said I’d have a reply within 48 hours; the support ticket was issued on June 2nd and I have yet to hear from anyone, so I’m starting to get somewhat frustrated. I’d greatly appreciate if you could get me an update. The problem started on June 1st. I was able to send e-mails before that date without any problems. Please help! I was eventually told that the problem was with Cox's servers and that the issue would be resolved within 24 hours. 48 hours later, I'm still not able to send e-mails. So today, I called Cox and had a long discussion with the aforementioned Ron. We did a lot of tests, tried different port settings, etc. and he came to the conclusion that the problem was with my Outlook application (which I was doubtful of, but heck, I'm no techie). I decided to test Ron's theory and did a test run using my Mac's Mail Application, which to date I hadn't used. Not surprisingly, I was unable to send e-mails using Mac Mail either! Again, I tried various outgoing server settings, all with the same negative results. Just to take it one step further, I attempted to set up the Mail program on my iPad, which to date I'd never used. This also failed, giving me the following message: "The SMTP server "smtp.cox.net" is not responding; etc, etc. While doing all these tests I also performed extra steps like taking Outlook and Mail offline after making account changes, deleting outbox messages and creating new ones for testing, etc. Which leads me to the conclusion that there is indeed something wrong on Cox's end, as I was originally told during my second online chat. I'm hoping someone on this forum can provide some insight, as I'm going a bit crazy not being able to send e-mails, and Cox support has been useless to date. I may have to start using Cox's Web Mail application to send e-mails (which works) but I'd really prefer to use my desktop's Outlook application! Any help and insights will be greatly appreciated!! Hi All, We've pulled together a list of the most helpful threads you've posted related to the Cox.net email move to Yahoo. Thanks to our community members for sharing your tips and tricks! Also, just a quick note, not all customers and email accounts are being transitioned at the same time. You will receive emails from Cox in advance to let you know about your email moving to Yahoo. When your email is ready to make the move, you will receive an email from Yahoo with instructions on how to do so. I am using Outlook 2013 on a Surface running Windows 10. The error message I get when testing send message is:Send test e-mail message: Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). My Outlook email box is configured to use POP3 (port 110) and SMTP (port 25). My username and password are specified for both receiving and sending. When I use the same settings on my Sprint cell phone network, Outlook works just fine. I therefore assume this is a Cox configuration issue. If you need additional information, just ask, as I am in IT professional, and am willing to work with you to resolve this issue. Please advise.4.2KViews0likes6CommentsI fixed my Outlook email problem after Cox "maintenance"
Hi all, Like all (?) Outlook users, I lost the ability to receive mail a week ago (I could still send). I use Windows 10 Pro, version 1903 (OS build 18362.746). I am using Outlook Version 1911 (build 12228.20332). I fixed my connection issue by disabling the use of TLS 1.0 by Windows 10.I suspect the "maintenance" was to require TLS 1.2 connections. Our Outlook clients are trying to connect using TLS 1.0 and get rejected. Here's how I did it. The first step may not be required -- I think it was the second step that was definitive. NOTE: These directions are essentially the same as those here:https://windowsreport.com/how-to-disable-tls-1-0/ 1. Disable TLS 1.0 in Internet Settings Press Windows Key + S [This will bring up Search] Type "internet options" into search bar The Internet Properties window pops up Select the "Advanced" tab Scroll down to the bottom, the "Security" section. Uncheck "Use TLS 1.0" Note: I also unchecked TLS 1.1, and I checked Use TLS 1.3 (experimental). You may not need to do that. 2. Edit the Registry to Disable TLS 1.0 Press Windows Key + R [this brings up the "Run" window] type "regedit" in Run to run the registry editor Then, in the left-hand tree view, open up this key path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols I couldn't see TLS 1.0 and Client subkeys went I arrived at the end of the above key path, so I had to create them. To create them: right-click on Protocols and select New > Key then enter "TLS 1.0" as the key title Next, right click on the TLS 1.0 key you just created, and select New > Key again. Enter "Client" as the title. Then, select the Client key, and in in the empty-space to the right of it, right-click and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value Enter "Enabled" as the new DWORD's title The default value for this new Enabled DWORD is 0 (zero), which disables TLS 1.0. Finally, restart Windows (reboot). My Outlook IMAP Settings for Cox The above procedure should have restored your prior configuration to a working state. If it's not, here are is my working Outlook configuration. Recall that I am using Windows 10, with OutlookVersion 1911 (build 12228.20332) as part of Office 365. Note that I use IMAP and not POP. It Outlook, select the File menu In the Account Information screen, press the "Account Settings" button, then select "Server Settings" The IMAP Account Settings -- Incoming mail -- window appears: Now press the "Outgoing mail" link in this window. Now the IMAP settings for outgoing mail appears: Good Luck & Merry Christmas!3.4KViews1like0CommentsOutlook email stopped working after 27 Aug 14
