Certified Cable Modems
I am researching DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems that utilize eMTA (telephony) so I do not have to have a separate device for my Cox Telephone Service. Aside from the Cisco DPQ3212 cable modem, which is Cox certified, I am wondering if there are additional cable modems that Cox will allow to be used, or if other Cox customers are currently using for their Internet/Voice services at home. I have found the following other modems that are not on the Cox "certified cable modem" list, but are DOCSIS 3.0 and do provide eMTA / telephony function that may be used for the Cox Voice Service: Netgear C7100V Arris TG1672G (listed as a "Gateway." What's the difference between a cable modem and a gateway? The data is digital anyway, right? No need to demodulate it to an analog signal anymore). Can anyone confirm if there are additional cable modems or gateways that are not "officially" on the Cox Certified Cable Modem list but are using them without issues? Is anyone using the above modems in their home?4.5KViews0likes5CommentsNetgear R6300 V2 firmware update?
How do we update the firmware on our Cox-supplied router? My Netgear R6300V2 is showing firmware of V1.0.3.48_10.0.85COX. If I go to Netgear's website there is much newer firmware available. However, it won't update since Cox has it locked down... Is there a newer Cox-approved firmware?5.6KViews0likes5CommentsPort Forwarding Login Timeout
I have a new modem/router from Cox Communications. It is a Netgear model configured for Cox. I am trying to get my Security Camera DVR back online so I can view cameras on my iPhone app. Using Netgear Genie (V2.05.09) it was simple to set up the ports required by the DVR. I also gave the DVR a static IP address on my network. However I can not get into the open ports from my phone app or any online port check tool. The error is always "Error: I could not see your service on 68.4.208.43 on port (90) - Reason: Connection timed out" or "Login timeout". Cox Customer Support has confirmed that the ports I have chosen are not blocked by them. Multiple reboots of the modem and DVR have not helped. The DVR is up and running so there is a device ready to connect if a port is open. Netgear will not help since the responsibility for service is on Cox. Cox Customer Support cannot explain or suggest a fix for the errors. I cannot find an answer on any of the "online communities". Perhaps someone has seen this problem before? https://www.netgear.com/service-providers/products/cable/gateways/C6300BD-Cox.aspx?cid=wmt_netgear_organic2.6KViews0likes2CommentsNetgear C3000-100NAS constantly resets
1. I had to factory reset my Netgear C3000 modem 2. After this, modem randomly resets about every 15 minutes. 3. Called Cox about 4 times 4. Cox guy comes out, says there's nothing wrong with the line, "fixes" the problem 5. 30 minutes later, internet goes out 6. Call cox back, say that I need to use their modem. 7. Find out firmware needed to be updated, Cox pushes that through 8. Problem still occurring: internet randomly dies and resets the modem. Any suggestions? I feel like Cox doesn't really want to look into the problem because I have my own modem. They are trying to push me into renting their modem I find it suspicious that the problem did not happen until I reset the modem. There has to be some setting somewhere that I need to select. Any help is appreciated.1.8KViews0likes1CommentNetgear CG3000D issues
This modem/router has been giving me problems since it was installed a couple of months ago. I believe it was a used router. Is there anybody else out there having issues or had issues with this device? My Wi-Fi drops all the time and I have to reset it. My PC is the one most affected by it. This device model is from 2009, to me it seems a little old, and there are no Firmware updates on the Netgear site or this site. By the way, I'm leasing the router from Cox.4.5KViews0likes11CommentsLittle to no internet access for almost a week
I've basically had no internet access since last Thursday. A few hours on Tuesday, but nothing else. I'm assuming it's a problem with my router, but I'm not sure. My router is a Netgear CG3000D. What I see on the lights on front is, the downstream light blinks then stays solid, then the upstream light blinks then stays solid, then the Internet light blinks quickly for a few seconds before all the lights turn off and the sequence starts again. When the connection has been successful in the past, the sequence is the same except the internet light starts blinking more slowly after a short time, then goes solid, with those three lights staying solid as long as my internet doesn't go down. What I see in the router's event log is an alternating sequence of "no ranging response received" and "unicast ranging received abort response". Is this something that can be fixed remotely or by myself following simple instructions with no risk of damaging rented hardware? Is it a hardware problem that I need to bring it to a Cox Solutions Store to get it fixed or replaced? Is my only option to call a technician to observe my actual setup and find some way to reduce Electromagnetic interference? Those options are arranged in order of preference, but I really need stable internet by next week and I'd prefer to at least have it back to it's previous state of only going down for an hour rather than for days.2KViews0likes1CommentWhy doesn't Cox support 16x4 DOCSIS 3.0 modems?
It is strange to me that the MSO competition (although not in this market) has significantly faster HSI options than Cox, and currently support the newer 16x4 DOCSIS 3.0 modems. If Cox was serious about this whole "Gigablast" rollout by the end of 2016, then one would assume that this would be something of a priority for them. As a long time customer of Cox, I was disappointed to hear that the Netgear CM500 modem (16x4) was not on the approved list, but the Netgear CM400 (8x4) is. I planned to fork over whatever it cost to retrofit for this gigabit internet option, but after seeing that I would need to spend even more money in a year to probably not get a fraction of the advertised speed was disheartening. I wish we had TWC or Comcast as options here in the valley as I would change providers right now. This may sound like a rant and quite possibly is, but the only difference in hardware between the two modems is the amount of downstream channels they have. This is ultimately irrelevant since the ISP determines your internet speeds. The most frustrating part is that the approved modem which can handle half the speed of the non-approved one; is only $20 less than the better one. Thank you Cox for still finding a way to cost me more money....I hope Google Fiber or CenturyLink rollout before Cox does, because that is where my money will go.5.8KViews0likes3CommentsNetgear CG4500BD & External Hard Drives
I recently upgraded to the Netgear CG4500BD modem/router combo. A large step up from our 2008 modem and 2010 Airport Router. I have 2 external hard drives plugged into the USB ports on the back of the router (same setup that I had with my airport,) but now I cannot access either drive. These are for storage and for backup. Is this a limitation in the Netgear router or am I missing a step in my setup? Thank you!2.3KViews0likes1Comment- 2.7KViews0likes3Comments
wireless router
I have a Netgear 28 wireless router installed by Cox. I use a Netgear 3100 wireless adapter to connect my PC to the router. I use Vista. Generally everything is fine but two or three times a week I loose internet and must restart the computer. There seems to be no reason for this. The wireless adapter screen shows computer connected to router but router not connected to internet. What to do? John2.4KViews0likes2Comments
