Netgear R6300 V2 firmware update?

How do we update the firmware on our Cox-supplied router? My Netgear R6300V2 is showing firmware of V1.0.3.48_10.0.85COX. If I go to Netgear's website there is much newer firmware available. However, it won't update since Cox has it locked down...  Is there a newer Cox-approved firmware?

    Hi Kptaylor,

You should be able to update your firmware on your own if your Netgear is a stand alone router and your Netgear R6300V2 is showing that it's a stand alone router.  We don't provide firmware updates to stand alone routers. Do you have a Netgear modem or a Netgear WiFi modem? If so, we can check if your modem has the latest firmware.  Please send us an email to cox.help@cox.com with the full name and address.  Please include a link to this post so that we have a history of what's going on. Thanks.

Well, the router (not modem) is stand alone, but the firmware is locked to Cox updates since it's a Cox-supplied router for my Gigablast service. I cannot update it on my own. When I either click the "Check for new firmware" button or try to use the update I downloaded to my computer from the Netgear website it won't allow me to process the update. It's looking for a Cox-approved update.

The Netgear routers provided with our Gigablast have a customized firmware that allows them to work with our internal and customer facing wifi management tools. We push updates out to these devices as necessary however they will not accept generic retail firmwares.

  • That is not true for me Chris.  I've had Gigablast for about a year and a half with the R6300 V2.  I check about once a month on the Administration tab of the router interface and it shows "checking for updates" and every few months it downloads one from Netgear and asks if I want to install it.  I have manually updated about 5 times this way.

It's entirely possible yours is a different hardware version.
