HD TV over coaxial cable with MiniBox
I, like many customers have been forced to transition from my basic "wall to tv" cable service to the Cox MiniBox. The MiniBox has worked wellenough (despite being a horrible eyesore on my otherwise well organized armoire) while I was using the HDMI output, but I recently acquired an additional peripheral that requires me to now use the Coax option on the MiniBox (the new equipment uses HDMI only, and my tv only has 2 HDMI ports). So now, I am stuck with a 480i signal, despite the fact that I used to receive 1080i HD channels directly from the wall before the transition (over a coax cable, without the box). If I go to the Cox settings menu, it coyly allows me to select the "video output" option under "video/audio" settings, but then DOES NOT LET ME CHANGE IT TO 1080i, the ONLY option is 480i. So Cox has rigged their box to unchangeably default to 480i if you are using a coax connection, even though the coax standard is capable of carrying a 1080i signal flawlessly. I am assuming this is just another "horrible cable company doing horrible things because they're horrible" thing, but if anyone has any idea how to work around this without me having to purchase an additional device to convert HDMI to coax I would certainly appreciate it. Also, if any Cox representative can give me a logical explanation as to why this problem exists beyond "we love making your life difficult" I would love to hear it, because you have done little to prove otherwise. This is not a hardware limitation, you could easily convert your signal to 1080i compatible with a coax output, but you choose not to, and that is truly aggravating.3.3KViews0likes3CommentsLOSING AUDIO INTERMITENLY
I have a new TV with a mini box. For various periods of time I lose all audio on various channels. Sometimes I have audio for the program and not the commercials. I have checked all cables and reset the box. I should also mention when I first turn it on it flashes from picture to gray screen and back at least a half dozen times. What's the deal?1.1KViews0likes1CommentAll-Digital TV Limitations
Now that my local Cox provider is all-digital, I have installed miniboxes, and I am paying more per month to "rent" those boxes. Is there any chance I will ever get back the channels I used to watch as part of my service, or does the increased price now mean I only get lical HD and lits of CSPAN and home shopping? Please tell me I'm just using my box wrong, and I really still have Discovery, History, Food, Spike, Travel, USA, E!, Weather, CNN, MSNBC... You know... Cable channels.2KViews0likes3CommentsGuide Channel Time 6 minutes behind real time
Have others noticed that the time at the top of the display on the Guide channel is ALWAYS 6 minutes behind satellite time. So at the top and half hours, the guide doesn't update until HH:06 or HH:36? When it is HH:00 or HH:30, on your phone or any device that synchs to satellite time, Cox guide channel doesn't know that and for the next 6 minutes will show you what you could have been watching. One would think that since they can deliver programming at the correct time, they could have the guide channel recognize the correct time. However, when I reported it I told they need # number of people to report the same issue before they can take action. They can't provide what the magic number is, and the tech support reps aren't in an area serviced by Cox so they can't see it for themselves.Solved4.8KViews0likes9CommentsMini Box
It is unfortunate that Cox has found yet another way to control our viewing. After reading other replies to the forums, we are greatly disappointed that we will no longer be able to record a program on our own VCR. Cox will finally run themselves out of business. The new add on charge of a mini box giving them even more control over which channels you view is the final straw. I believe March 29th is the cut off date. If more customers will follow this protest, Cox would no longer be in business.2KViews0likes1CommentNot getting local channels with minibox
I hooked up minibox to tv using hdmi cable. I do not get channels 3, 5, 8, 23, and 25, which were the old analog stations. Every others cable channel works. Error says channel not available. I did channel scan, rebooted, tried direct cable instead of hdmi. Nothing seems to work. Anyone else having this problem?4KViews0likes5Comments
