Surround Sound Volume is unbalanced
I have a contour minibox --> HDMI Denon AVR-391 Receiver --> HDMI Samsung 55' TV. This happens on the ABC channel with the show "The Voice". As soon as the artist begins to sing, the sound on the front and center channels will drop to nearly 0. The back channels remain at a constant level. When the artist finishes, the volume on the center and front channels go back to normal. I have tried various settings on the receiver but it happens with all of them. I have 2 other contour miniboxes connected directly to TVs (no surround sound receiver) that have no issues with sound. My guess is that there is something with the signal coming out of the contour minibox box controlling the 5.1 surround sound.1.9KViews0likes7CommentsCox Mini Box Cisco DTA250 pixelation and tiling and running hot Cox send out refurbs that don't work
Have had our Cisco mini box replaced a few times butCox keeps sending out refurbs that don't work. The most recent one is a DTA250-COX-K9 from 2016. We getpixelation and tiling and it runs hot. The AC adapter/ power cord runs 88-90 degrees when idle and the mini box runs 90-92 degrees when idle. When running the adapter/ power cord is 92 or so degrees and the box runs 98-100 degrees or more. All other AC adapters/ power cords run at 78-80 degrees at idle and while running. Other devices run about 68-70 degrees around the ambient temperature when idle and around 75-85 degrees when running. No other devices runs as hot as the Cox mini box. The other deices area a Roku Ultra, Nvidia Shield Pro, and audio receiver. Cox mini box has plenty of room to breathe and is on an elevated and vented metal platform. Measured using a Fluke 62 Max + a very accurate IR temp gun.1.3KViews0likes2Commentsa question about contour or contour 2 cable boxes (NOT THE DVR)
I was wondering .... can I have 2 contour boxes (not the DVR kind), in the same house (thus replacing a mini-box)? example... 1 in living room and another in bedroom... Or better yet, if I found an extra contour box or contour 2 box (say at goodwill, ebay, amazon, etc...), would I be able to use it in another room instead of the mini-box as I have noticed that the contour box in our living room has nicer features such as more programming and voice remote than the basic remote and programming associated with the mini-box in my room. Any answers on this subject would be great... especially if I find out that I can simply replace the mini-box with say a "goodwill, ebay, amazon, etc.." contour and only pay $2.99 instead of whatever cox is charging to rent their contour receivers each month. Would there be any problems just plugging it in where the mini-box was??3.7KViews0likes7CommentsHD TV over coaxial cable with MiniBox
I, like many customers have been forced to transition from my basic "wall to tv" cable service to the Cox MiniBox. The MiniBox has worked wellenough (despite being a horrible eyesore on my otherwise well organized armoire) while I was using the HDMI output, but I recently acquired an additional peripheral that requires me to now use the Coax option on the MiniBox (the new equipment uses HDMI only, and my tv only has 2 HDMI ports). So now, I am stuck with a 480i signal, despite the fact that I used to receive 1080i HD channels directly from the wall before the transition (over a coax cable, without the box). If I go to the Cox settings menu, it coyly allows me to select the "video output" option under "video/audio" settings, but then DOES NOT LET ME CHANGE IT TO 1080i, the ONLY option is 480i. So Cox has rigged their box to unchangeably default to 480i if you are using a coax connection, even though the coax standard is capable of carrying a 1080i signal flawlessly. I am assuming this is just another "horrible cable company doing horrible things because they're horrible" thing, but if anyone has any idea how to work around this without me having to purchase an additional device to convert HDMI to coax I would certainly appreciate it. Also, if any Cox representative can give me a logical explanation as to why this problem exists beyond "we love making your life difficult" I would love to hear it, because you have done little to prove otherwise. This is not a hardware limitation, you could easily convert your signal to 1080i compatible with a coax output, but you choose not to, and that is truly aggravating.3.3KViews0likes3CommentsLOSING AUDIO INTERMITENLY
I have a new TV with a mini box. For various periods of time I lose all audio on various channels. Sometimes I have audio for the program and not the commercials. I have checked all cables and reset the box. I should also mention when I first turn it on it flashes from picture to gray screen and back at least a half dozen times. What's the deal?1.1KViews0likes1CommentAll-Digital TV Limitations
Now that my local Cox provider is all-digital, I have installed miniboxes, and I am paying more per month to "rent" those boxes. Is there any chance I will ever get back the channels I used to watch as part of my service, or does the increased price now mean I only get lical HD and lits of CSPAN and home shopping? Please tell me I'm just using my box wrong, and I really still have Discovery, History, Food, Spike, Travel, USA, E!, Weather, CNN, MSNBC... You know... Cable channels.2KViews0likes3CommentsGuide Channel Time 6 minutes behind real time
Have others noticed that the time at the top of the display on the Guide channel is ALWAYS 6 minutes behind satellite time. So at the top and half hours, the guide doesn't update until HH:06 or HH:36? When it is HH:00 or HH:30, on your phone or any device that synchs to satellite time, Cox guide channel doesn't know that and for the next 6 minutes will show you what you could have been watching. One would think that since they can deliver programming at the correct time, they could have the guide channel recognize the correct time. However, when I reported it I told they need # number of people to report the same issue before they can take action. They can't provide what the magic number is, and the tech support reps aren't in an area serviced by Cox so they can't see it for themselves.Solved4.8KViews0likes9Comments
