MoCA installation
Hi all. I'm a brand new cox subscriber and have purchased the gigabit connection using the COX Panoramic modem/router (Technicolor CGM 4141). Which i believe is compatible with MoCA. The cable connection comes straight into the front room of the house directly into the modem/router. the cable is not split and distributed to any other rooms currently. I'd like to deliver a connection to two other rooms using existing cable and MoCA. So here is my current plan. Please let me know if I have this right. Step 1. Using a standards compliant splitter, connect the service feed prior to the modem connection and distribute it to the two other rooms. Step 2. Using Moca 2.0 adapters, connect the RG6 cable to covert into a standard ethernet signal. Step 3. Connect my PC to the Moca Adapter using RJ45 cat5 cable. Would appreciate any insights or recommendations. Thanks!Solved7.5KViews1like1CommentWhy did the technician tack the coaxial cord on the exterior of my brand new construction home instead of running it through the house or burying the cord?
The technician put a box at the exterior of my home and then ran the coaxial cord down the side of my house. He tacked the cord to the brick. Nobody else in my neighborhood has this and my home is the newest in the neighborhood. Why does cox not try to conceal the cord?1.5KViews0likes4CommentsProfessional Install Only Option
Hi all, I am a new customer as of just a moment ago and when ordering new internet service there was no self-install option like when I had Spectrum at previous house. Is there no option or did I miss something? I also have my own DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem, so I really don't need someone to do anything that I can't do myself. Please advise, and thank you ahead of time.1.3KViews0likes1CommentDistance from road question
Hi, I'm a current and long time Cox customer. We just bought 10 acres and plan to build in about 2 years. I'm doing my research now so that I know what to plan for down the road. Cox has customers along the road already so thats not an issue. We plan to build about 500 feet off the road and do not want anything aerial. So my questions are: - how far will Cox burycable for free? - if they won't go the entire distance, how much do they charge per foot beyond that? - could i bury the cable myself since i'm already going to run the water line myself? If so, would RG-6 direct bury cable be the right choice? Thanks Tommy2.9KViews0likes2CommentsOrdered "Self Install" for Gigablast in an older neighborhood... is that ok?
(for context: neighborhood is the Cactus Rd & Tatum Blvd area, by PV Mall) Been waiting for Gigablast for the last 2 years (although Cox has done an awesome job updating Ultimate all the way to 300mbps). Was just messing around on the website and noticed it was available as an upgrade option suddenly... nice! Selected it, chose "I have modem" (ordered a SB8200 from Amazon) and then was given a choice for: 1. Professional Install 2. Self install I chose Self Install because I'm comfortable with this stuff... but I was under the impression there needed to be a Fiber line install for Gigablast to work. I was told by a Cox tech last year (that was working in the neighborhood) that we wouldn't have Gigablast until all the standoffs in the neighborhood had been replaced and had fiber run to them. None of that has happened, all the stands in the yards are still the old ones, so I'm wondering if this is too good to be true? I don't mind having the pro install done if it's necessary, just want to understand what will happen here before I get too excited :) Thanks!Solved3KViews0likes2CommentsMoving a phone from one room to another
I had a phone installed a year or more ago, at the time there was no charge to add this service, but when I contacted COX today, they informed me that they would charge $50.00 to move the phone from the room it is in now to another in the same house, same wiring, same TV, same internet...etc. What is so difficult about unscrewing a coax wire and screwing it into another room but for some reason, COX won't provide any service without charging ridiculous fees. It's literally a 5-10 minute job and I've managed to just get a coax extension, drill a hole and move it to the next room while it's still connected to the same outlet. The reasoning behind all these charges for doing something so simple is just another reason that COX is becoming the worst provider I've ever used. It's nothing but greed and the two words "Customer Service" don't exist at this company. Good luck to all who stay with this rip-off company. New Years resolution is to change providers ASAP.Solved4.5KViews0likes1CommentTransferring Service - Professional Installation Question
Hi there, I am moving into a new house where there are currently no coaxial cable jacks. I have spoken to Cox about switching my service and also agreed to pay the $25 fee for a jack to be installed. My question is this: does paying this fee get me an installation where the technician will fish the cable through my wall to do the installation or will he just want to punch a hole through my wall and connect the cable to my modem that way? I don't really mind either installation, just want to know what my options are. I apologize if this question has been asked before... I tried to use the search function and got no results!2.9KViews0likes3CommentsNew Cox Customer Install question
Hi, I'm a new cox internet only customer, I wanted to know what others experience with the initail install. I currently have my house wired inside for coax in all rooms. I expect the installer to put a cable box on the side of the house and hope they plan to run cable to room where computer is through the attic. I looked at my neighbors house and they have cox cable but the install is not what I would consider professional. I'm paying for "Professional" install and I've done cat 5 cable installs for years and professional is hidden out of sight and in the wall. The neighbor has the main cable feeding the house sticking out of the ground about 5 feet from the hook up. The cable they have to feed the TV is run up into the sofit and another cable leading to the computer room is laying above ground and goes through the wall on the front porch and looks like an idiot did it, not professional at all! Will you share your install experience here and tell me what to expect. I'm not going to let anyone tack cable across the front of my house then just drill hole in wall of computer room. I'll do it myself if that's their idea of professional. Thanks in advance.10KViews0likes4CommentsPhone install help
I'm considering getting a cox phone line in addition to the cable and internet I currently have. Right now my cable modem is on my entertainment center, in the living room. I only have 2 phone jacks in my house - 1 in the kitchen and 1 in the master bedroom. What all has to be connected for a phone line?? I will be using this as a work line only to do inbound customer service calls. A corded phone is required, no cordless. So i will need to be within reasonable distance from the jacks. Any help?4.6KViews0likes1Comment
