Download speed throttled
I pay for 250 down/25 up, however my download speed is almost always close to a tenth of that. The only way to get the advertised speed is to reset my router. However this is only a temporary fix, and it quickly drops back down to the lower speed. This has been going on for months and I am sick of it. I have tried contacting support but all they do is reset my router, which again only solves the problem for an hour or so. I have even gone to the Cox store and gotten a new router and the problem has persisted. I know for a fact that I am being throttled because it occurs on every device whether it is connected by ethernet or by Wi-Fi. It happens even when I am nowhere near reaching my data cap for the month as well. Please let me know what I can do to resolves this, it is very infuriating only getting one tenth of the internet speed that I pay for.552Views2likes8CommentsRidiculously low download speed (8 MBS) in the evening for Internet Gigablast since last week
I've signed up for Gigablast a few months back andthe service was fineuntil last week. Every day since then, I get ridiculously low download speeds of 5-10MBS in the evening (after 6 PM) with the D/L speed picking up gradually after 11PM. Mornings or during the day, the speed is as expected (around 100MBS) All my tests were done with a couple of laptops wired directly into the modem (Arris Surfboard SB8200), no router was involved. I'm pretty sure that the modem is not the problem otherwise I'd have the same experience during the day. What could cause this? I live in a condo and I think that thewiring is split between the 4 adjacent apartments. Could it be that a neighbor (or more) has recently signed up for the Gigablast and is literally drying up the bandwidth before it gets to my place???Solved2KViews0likes9CommentsThis is the 2nd day in a row this has happened. What is going on?
I've refreshed my modem literally 6-8 times in the last two days, and every time I take a new speed test, I get a result that looks like this: I called Tech Support earlier today and was advised there was an outage. However, that outage was cleared at 4:32 pm today. I refreshed my modem twice, and still get approximately 9mbps download speeds. I'm paying for up to 150mbps, and while I realize it might not always be 150, I would expect at least 80-90. But 9???1.1KViews0likes5CommentsDownstream crawling / Upstream still fast
Hello - I have been having an issue with my connection for the past 2-3 weeks. I pay for 300mbps down / 30mbps up and have had no issues until now. I am getting between <1mpbs to around 7mbps down at best. Unacceptable. I used to regularly get 300mb down and sometimes even faster at non-peak times. I've done all the troubleshooting COX suggested and now they want me to change out my cable modem as a troubleshooting step and (of course) recommend I rent the modem from them. No thanks. I'd rather pay for my own and not give another $10-$15 per month to Cox. My question is this: how can the problem be the modem if it is still capable of providing the advertised upstream speed? I have made no changes to the topology. Here are my modem's stats (below) if it helps. I don't know how to read them, so maybe someone here with more experience can tell me where the problem lies. I have a cox preferred account that is supposed to provide 50 mbps download speed. When I use speed-test.cox to measure it, I get only ~25mbps while speedcheck.cox gives me 50mbps. Other online sources (Ookla) measure the download speed st 30 - 35 mbps. I connect to the modem thru a router, and have replaced the old one with no change in the resulting download speed measurements. I am very curious about this........any ideas??2.3KViews0likes4CommentsInternet download speed
I am paying for Cox High Speed Preferred internet which states it has up to 18mbps download speed. However, I have been testing my download speed weekly for the past three months and never get above 2.9. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I use 2wire.com for my tests.4.3KViews0likes3CommentsCox Premier Only Downloading 36 Mbps
I recently upgraded to the Cox 50 Mbps (Premier) from 25 Mbps (Preferred) in the Manhattan, KS area (66502). I am currently only attaining download speeds of MAX 36 Mbps and upload speeds of MAX 12 Mbps according to Speedtest.net. I've tested this via a Macbook Pro hardwired directly to the modem, as well as wirelessly through an Airport Extreme base station (5th Generation). Furthermore, I utilize a personally purchased Motorola Surfboard SB6121 with the latest firmware pushed from the ISP, so DOCSIS 3.0 isn't the issue. Any suggestions?Solved6KViews0likes5CommentsUpgraded to Premier service but still getting preferred speeds
Hello and thank you for reading. I upgraded to Cox Premier from preferred yesterday 7/19. However, I am still getting preferred speeds. After the Premier upgrade I am receiving the same 25 Mbps down (using either my router, or direct from my PC). My modem is showing 4 bonded downstream and 2 bonded upstream. I have checked all wire connections, cables, and performed several speed tests on various sites, but my download speed cannot achieve greater than 25Mbps. I also emailed cox.help@cox.com about this and included a link referencing related threads in this forum. Any assistance solving this problem is greatly appreciated! For the past few days, and various times. Afternoon, evening, and late at night, our connection in the house has been fluctuating at an alarming rate. I believe we are on the preferred or premier package, one that offers 20-30mbps down. For weeks I've been seeing speeds just barely hitting around 20.50mbps download (on the days it works correctly) only for the connection to spend most of it's time at terrible speeds on other days. Example below: We had a tech come out several months back (this problem has been present off and on as far back as late 2012,) couldn't find a problem, had no idea what packet loss was, etc. It was worth mentioning Cox had been doing line maintenance in the area both before and after the problem was noticed. After their "maintenance," I started seeing it get as bad as the following: Is there anyone in the Hampton Roads area, specifically around Portsmouth (State of Virginia) experiencing issues like this? Can anyone at Cox shed some light as to what the problem might be? I've called the automated support number numerous times. I've power cycled the modem and router numerous times and checked all my lines and connections inside the house, it's nothing on my end, at least nothing I can do anything about personally to my knowledge. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.4.4KViews0likes5CommentsPremier Tier running at Preferred - not a legacy issue
Isubscribedto cox on 5/25 and have been very frustrated with my speeds. I am paying for premier level service and I was told I should be able to expect an average download speed of 40 Mbps, and I have not been able to get speeds greater than 30 and averaging about 25, today it was 19 Mbps. I have chatted with tech support who restarted my services and this did not help. The tech who installed my services said that my modemMotorola SurfBoard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem would not cause this issue and even he was only about to get speeds of about 30 Mbps when he checked it. I am using a router but the speed checks have been done through both just the modem and through the router. The chat tech support has not been helpful and I am getting read to cancel my service if this can't be resolved.2.2KViews0likes1Comment
