IR Extender with Contour 9852HDC Box?
Anyone know of a remote extender (and where I can get it) that works with the Contour Main Unit's IR port? We just got Contour and I have a long-used Smarthome cabinet IR extender system for all the components in our cabinet, but the Contour unit even with an IR Blaster stuck on the front panel where I believe the IR receiver is - has absolutely horrible response - so bad that it isn't really usable. Also is there a manual for that unit online? I did not get one from the tech. Or if someone could confirm where the IR sensor is in case that would be great (looks like there are 2 "eyes" in the smoky panel to the right of the display? I've tried both and can get a response from the box while behind the cabinet but as above - highly inconsistent). Than you in advance..40KViews0likes1CommentWhy is Cox Communications STILL NOT Connected with the History Channel?
I tried this when the History Channel first came out with their app for the XBOX 360 a long time ago and today I figured that I would give it another try because SURELY Cox has by now linked up with their authentication service. To my true disappointment I noticed this STILL has not been completed and I feel the need to voice my discontent in finding this out. If anyone from Cox actually reads and/or replies to this thread.... (a practice critical to actually running a customer focused company inline with their presumed marketing flubber)... then please briefly explain to us all the following: Why is your customer authentication system not linked up with with theirs yet? If your response to the above question attempts to place the blame on the side of the History Channel then please explain to me how they manage to be connected with every single Cable TV provider in the entire Nation (~50+ providers)? This is evidenced by simply visiting their default Activation/Authentication page located athttp://www.history.com/activate (note: you must select the Roku or XBOX button prior to being able to see that use list of Cable providers) Please further provide us some insights into how many of your other current Channel Content Partners provide online viewing for which you currently have not properly implemented the same Activation/Authentication procedures? Please provide a general timeline in regards to when Cox Customers can expect such implementations to be completed? Although I am sure that the vast majority of remaining Cox subscribers do not use such services, your company needs to recognize that by failing to simply ensure such capabilities are treated as priorities you give people like me (and I am sure many others) just one more reason to look for alternatives out there. Get it together guys! Respectfully submitted, CH27KViews0likes8CommentsCONTOUR DEMYSTIFIED
For those that have wondered just how difficult and expensive it might be to upgrade to the COX Contour whole home network service I hope this helps make the decision easier. I postponed my decision to upgrade because COX would not describe just what was required in the way of changes to my home cable network system and I didn’t want an installer ripping my house up until I understood exactly what was required. For those technically inclined you can read up on MoCA and receive a better and more thorough technical description of that I’m going to try to explain here in smaller words. Simply put, MoCA describes how a simple lowpass filter, placed at the ingress to your house, can turn your existing coax cable distribution system into a cable receiver internetwork. Your existing cable distribution system uses cable splitters to expand the single ingress cable to various cable modems, routers, cable TV receivers and cable ready TVs. These cable splitters work great in getting the TV, Internet and Phone signals where they need to get to downstream, but they do not permit cross node intercommunication required by a network. MoCA describes how any cable receiver can send a signal upstream through the splitters, used as combiners, and ricochet off the lowpass filter installed on your cable ingress to then flow downstream to all your nodes. The filter performs a dual function in mirroring the network signals back into your house and preventing them from getting out onto the community cable distribution network and disturbing your neighbor’s home TV network. Therefore all you need to make the Contour whole house network work is one ingress lowpass MoCA filter, your existing coax cable distribution network and Contour compliant receivers and/or DRV receivers. The receivers (with or w/o DVR) rent for $8.50/mo. and the Contour service is $19.95/mo. The installation is unfortunately an additional cost which STARTS at $60. Installation can be as easy as installing the little MoCA filter on your ingress and replacing your cable receivers, or as complex as a lot of hand holding can demand. Some pitfalls to watch for include: 1. If you don’t have one already, Cox will most likely want to install a plastic box on the side of your house to contain the tiny MoCA lowpass filter, to protect it from the weather. 2. The Cox installer will most likely suggest that your whole network won’t work without replacing your entire cable distribution system with newer, better coax cables and splitters. This will most likely not be required. Insist that they give it a go w/o upgrading any cables and splitters first. You might give Cox a call before having the installation done and ask if the received signal strength of each of your existing cable receivers is good. They can see from the home office the signal strength at all of your existing cable receivers inside your house. If the signal is good beforehand, there is a good chance that the new networked setup will work just fine with your existing cables and splitters. 3. Make sure that the tech has called into the office and enabled all your new receivers for network service prior to leaving. My install tech failed to do this and it took several calls to get it straightened out. There is a simple test under Menu, Settings, Receivers, DVR Network, and View DVR Network that you can run to verify that you are good to go. You either can see your network, or you can’t. Good luck.25KViews0likes24CommentsContour Cable Box Freezing Constantly
My contour cable box is constantly freezing but only does so when I have the channel guide open or when I am browsing through On-Demand shows or movies. Additionally, if I have a show or movie playing, that show or movie will suddenly "crash"...it will freeze, the screen will go blank, and then the regular TV will come back on. Is there any fix for this that can be done from home without a technician? Do I need to purchase a different box? PLEASE HELP!!!25KViews1like6CommentsCOX Contour and TV Connect Apps for Windows 10
Hi, will there be an app developed for Windows Phone 10devices in the near future? I'm assume so, since Microsoft have an universal app development framework now... Cox can develop one code base that can work across all windows 10devices. If Cox management, chief software engineer, and lead software architects haven't made a decision to go on this; maybe the business need to hire replacements.. My whole household have moved away from iOS and Android devices; and replaced all with windows 10 devices; no plans to go back...25KViews0likes4CommentsIs it possible to cast the contour app?
I have recently recieved service for cox and they offered basic cable at a minimal price so I accepted but in order to keep cost low I opted to go app only option. I believe from what I'm seeing it's impossible to watch this live tv on a smart cast tv because the apps do not download onto the actual tv, instead they download on to a device and you have to cast them to the tv. Am I correct in assuming I'm am out of luck because the cox contour app does not support casting.23KViews0likes2CommentsHow do I access my built-in TV apps like Hulu?
Ijust got Cox Contour and so far we like it, but it doesn’t seem to include Hulu, which was one if the built-in apps from our LG smart TV.So now I’m trying to figure out how to access the built-in TV apps, and more specifically the Hulu app, since Contour already hasNetflix and Amazon Prime. Is there a way to access the built-in TV apps?21KViews0likes2CommentsContour DVR - Shut Down/Reboot Issue
I have had Cox Contour now for about 2 months, overall it not been too bad an experience, unfortunately, the enjoyment of this service is being marred by the Cisco 9865HDC shutting down and rebooting at daily, but irregular intervals. I have disconnected the power for 5 mins and restarted the unit but the problem persists, shutting down at a key moment in a program and when eventually restarting, tuning to a different channel. Anyone else having this problem or should I just arrange to get the equipment changed out? Thanks21KViews0likes18CommentsApps with the ability to remotely change set top box channels?
I understand this capability does not currently exist (under neither Contour nor TV connect), but I am wondering what the time line is for an app to have the ability to change the currently showing program on a homeset top box. When looking through the Connect literature, it referenced this ability as "coming soon". Naturally other providers (such as DirecTV) have included this simple ability in their apps for quite a long time. Any idea?19KViews0likes6CommentsXbox One Streaming Contour
I use an Xbox One as my primary means of home entertainment and streaming. I recently downgraded my service to internet only in addition to a contour streaming service (so no TV box needed). However, the Contour App only seems available to download on a phone or tablet. While these are great options, it seems like Cox is missing it's primary mission which is to allow people to stream directly to their living room TV via gaming consoles or dedicated platforms like Apple TV or Roku. Does Cox have any plans to roll out an app that will allow customers to stream Contour to gaming devices in the near future? With so many other streaming options such as Sling or Hulu, this would be a powerful tool to retain loyal customers.17KViews0likes4Comments
