Internet Slowed To Crawl?
About 12 noon-ish today (up through the time of this posting at 5:47 pm), my internet connection suddenly slowed to a crawl. I reset the router/modem (Cisco DPQ3925) several times, rebooted the computer, changed the DNS numbers (fixed and assigned), released & renewed the IPs, literally everything you're supposed to do, and nothing worked. All I can figure at this point is that there's a problem on the Cox end of things, or the router/modem is starting to suffer hardware failure.1.4KViews0likes3CommentsNew DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, slow and intermittent stoppage
I went to this "latest and greatest" cable modem only to find the Internet was slow, timed out, and aggravating with "unable to connect" to servers on the web. I found this website: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/broadband-cable/cable-modems/12551-troubleshooting-slow-perf.html#performance According to the Cisco site, "Performance Restricted by DOCSIS Configuration File The first piece of information that needs to be gathered when troubleshooting slow cable modem performance is the prescribed class of service throughput limitations of the cable modem. When a cable modem comes online, it downloads a DOCSIS configuration file that contains operational limits for the cable modem, including the maximum upload and download rates. Under normal circumstances, the cable modem is not allowed to exceed these rates." So, does anyone know what Cox DOCSIS configuration file is download that ruins the performance of a modem? Also, how should one tweak this configuration file to get one's performance back?1.6KViews0likes3CommentsCertified Cable Modems
I am researching DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems that utilize eMTA (telephony) so I do not have to have a separate device for my Cox Telephone Service. Aside from the Cisco DPQ3212 cable modem, which is Cox certified, I am wondering if there are additional cable modems that Cox will allow to be used, or if other Cox customers are currently using for their Internet/Voice services at home. I have found the following other modems that are not on the Cox "certified cable modem" list, but are DOCSIS 3.0 and do provide eMTA / telephony function that may be used for the Cox Voice Service: Netgear C7100V Arris TG1672G (listed as a "Gateway." What's the difference between a cable modem and a gateway? The data is digital anyway, right? No need to demodulate it to an analog signal anymore). Can anyone confirm if there are additional cable modems or gateways that are not "officially" on the Cox Certified Cable Modem list but are using them without issues? Is anyone using the above modems in their home?4.5KViews0likes5CommentsInternet goes out every afternoon at the same time.
I see many people are having this same issue but since I actually signed up to reply, this forum will only let me report abuse (what's with that?) I am seeing several with the same router/gateway, all have been on about 1 to 2 years. Netgear CG 3000d. My Internet goes out every afternoon around 1:30 PM. I can almost set the clock by this but it has been slowly getting later each day (been happening for a couple of months now.) They keep wanting to send someone out but since they can only give me a two hour window of when the might show up, that isn't going to help much. It makes no difference if I go through the entire reboot sequence, it just comes back on by itself, usually about 20 minutes but it was an hour the few week it started happening. I tried turning the modem off, first for a couple of hours, then for a week when I was on a trip. Can anyone give me a good explanation of how/why my modem could be doing this? I have it plugged directly in to the wall, I will try another outlet but that doesn't make any sense either.4.7KViews0likes5CommentsExtremely slow downloads on Valve's Steam Service
Hello, I'm trying to determine how I can have speeds like this: But download from Valve's Steam like this: This has been going on for the better part of 2 years now. The only reason I haven't asked a question earlier is I do most of my gaming on consoles. But on occasion I'd like to play my PC games as well. However, it becomes a detriment when downloads are constantly lower than they have been in the past (I was easily getting above 30 Megabytes, not Megabits, in the past from Steam). Here are my stats from my cable modem: I'm at a loss for what could be causing these consistently slow speeds with Steam, while allowing EVERYTHING else that uses my Internet connection to run at the expected rate. TL;DR -- Steam is slow, but used to be fast. I'd like it to be fast again please. Any help appreciated. Thanks.5.1KViews0likes4CommentsNew SB8200 - improper provisioning
I just purchased and installed a new Arris SB8200 for use at my home to replace an aging SB6120. I followed the installation instructions and I called cox customer service to register the new modem via it's SN and MAC address. The modem is connected and I'm able to connect to the internet. But here's the problem... My download speeds are horrendously slow now. Immediately before I disconnected the SB6120, I ran a speed test and I was getting in excess of my current plan speeds. ~60Mbps down and about 7-8Mbps up. Now, the same test yields around 10Mbps or less down and, at times, really high upload speeds around 20-30 Mbps. I have checked all of the signal levels reported by the modem webpage and they all appear nominal. It also appears that all 32 download channels have been bonded and 4 upload channels are bonded (see bottom). Here's a current speed test report from the cox website. as you can see horrendously slow on the download side which is less than 10% of what I should be receiving. Test Results Download Upload 4 Mbps 6 Mbps My Internet Plan COX INTERNET PREFERRED Download Upload 50 Mbps 5 Mbps Speed Test Results Device Type Latency desktop 31 ms IP Address Test Server So what gives? I know that many other cox users including those in Phoenix and elsewhere in AZ have reported that this modem works as advertised when provisioned. Has mine been provisioned improperly? I know from other users of the modem that the firmware version being pushed out by COX and other providers is at least one or more revisions older than the modem's current firmware revision which is: Software Version D31CM-PEREGRINE-1.0.0.2-GA-01-NOSH Why is my quality of service all of a sudden negatively impacted by upgrading my modem (which is something Cox want's you to do every few years) to the latest model which is officially supported by Cox? As a long time cox customer going back 17 years, this is not meeting my expectation of performance and service currently. :-( I am not connecting to the modem wirelessly, but through a wired Ethernet connection. I have tried connecting directly to my PC and through my router and the results are exactly the same. Hello, I have just had to remove my arris sb6190 and put my previous sb 6180 back in service because of all the latency issues with the SB 6190. I spoke today, April, 26, 2017, with Arris. They told me that a firmware update has been given to cable providers to test and then roll out to customers. My questions are; 1. Does Cox have the latest update, or when do you expect it? 2. How long should it take to test and start rolling out. Bear in mind my SB6190 in no longer on line, I would put it back on after the new firmware starts rolling out. 3. I purchased the SB6190 retail. Does that make a difference for getting the firmware update that I understand can only come from Cox? Thank You, Mike3.4KViews0likes4CommentsInternet nearly unusable
A few months back, our internet would stop working every now and again. No big deal, just reset the modem. Didn't give it much thought. But then "every now and again" became weekly. Then daily. Now we're lucky if the internet sticks around for a solid hour without requiring the modem to be reset. We tried to watch the new Amy Schumer special on Netflix, and our internet pooped out three times during one 50 minute special. The problem affects all of our devices - PC, smart TV, smart phones. And the modem, which I have come to hate, continues to have all its lights solidly on, as if it has no idea there's a problem. Our phones don't, either. They think they have Internet but they don't, so they don't even switch over to Sprint LTE. All the connections seem fine to me (but what do I know?), nothing seems like it's overheating... The modem's less than a year old, it should still have some vigor left in it. I got on cox.com and reset the modem from there, too. Didn't work. I don't know what's going on... Can anyone help me?1.4KViews0likes3Comments
