Arris SB6190 puma chip Issue

Hello,

I have just had to remove my arris sb6190 and put my previous sb 6180 back in service because of all the latency issues with the SB 6190.  I spoke today, April, 26, 2017, with Arris.  They told me that a firmware update has been given to cable providers to test and then roll out to customers.

My questions  are;

1.  Does Cox have the latest update, or when do you expect it?

2.  How long should it take to test and start rolling out.  Bear in mind my SB6190 in no longer on line, I would put it back on after the new firmware starts rolling out.

3.  I purchased the SB6190 retail.  Does that make a difference for getting the firmware update that I understand can only come from Cox?

Thank You,

Mike

    It doesn't seem the latest firmware fixes everything. Check out the last couple pages of this thread:

    I sold my SB6190 on eBay and picked up a Netgear CM600 back in December.

  • Hello,

    djc6 is correct as the latest firmware that was already pushed out to the modems affected by the Puma 6 chipset was complete.  It was initially thought to be corrected, however found it was still experiencing the latency issues.  They continue work on addressing this issue.  We have not yet been informed if they have another verison ready for testing or when it would be released.

    I just wanna say Cox has been pretty good about eventually updating firmware on my SB6190, SB6182, CM600, etc..

    dslreports and netgear community forums are full of complaints from users of some cable ISPs that *never* update firmware on customer owned equipment.

    There is apparently not only a latency/jitter issue with the SB6190, but now a denial of service attack as well:

    Seems Arris is being sued: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/04/11/intel_puma_6_arris/

    Thing is, like 15 other modems susceptible to same issues as they use the same Intel Puma 6 chipset.
