New TCL 65" Roku tv - HD nowhere to be seen
I am going crazy with the clarity of the video picture on cox. We used to have SD and HD channels. There is no difference in the clarity. I spoke with cox rep for Oklahoma and they said cox updated all digital to HD so I would see no difference. The problem is, the picture is fuzzy. Not clear like a true HD channel should be. I am currently using tivo bolt, cox tuning adapter, cable card and HDMI to connect. I am so frustrated with the fuzzy picture! Any suggestions?2.5KViews0likes7CommentsContinuosly losing lower end channels
About every 6 weeks we lose a large portion of our subscribed channels. Most of the channels on the highest spectrum (no HD) work just fine. We have a Silicon Dust HDHomeRun Prime (3 tuner cable card) with a Cox provided Cisco STA1520 tuner. On 2 TV's we are still using Microsoft's Media Center - where the problem occurs (works fine with OTA channels when not using Cox). A third TV uses Cox's Mini-box and channels not working on cable cards work fine. On one other TV and two PC's (Win10), we use Silicon Dust's HDHomerun DVR which always works with no loss of channels. Clearly the problem seems to be the cable cards. For some 20+ service calls they usually replace all splitters, and/or several cables, Cox's modem, and have also replaced the cable from our panel to the street. Each time the low signal issue is resolved - for another 6 weeks. I have also replaced my Linksys Router twice. All connections are hard wired. I thought about replacing the HDHomeRun Prime with the new Prime 6, but since I have seen the same issues on the forum with Tivo (also uses cable cards) I'll wait until Cox figures out what the problem seems to be with there cable cards. While Cox's support has been pretty good (other then the repeated issue) It is very apparent that their support of cable cards is very limited. They always send out their "lead" technicians, which also have somewhat limited knowledge (they always fix the immediate issue but can't explain why the problem keeps occurring). Consumers have been using cable cards for several years now, and as media options continue to grow, their use will also grow - this problem needs to be resolved. We have Tivo Roamio and Bolt, Cox cable cards, Extended channel tuners. When we first got them Cox VOD didn't even show-up. Worked with Cox and all proper flags, codes, etc were then added/set correctly. VOD still didn't work Error V205. Tech came out and brought new cards and tuner boxes, still no joy. We ended up just watching shows on the Cox Website through a browser on our computer, but now you can't watch certain shows on the website that you can with VOD on a card or cable box. We've tried the reboot modem and router and tivos, no joy there either. Tivo says it's Cox and the Cox techs say they don't know Tivo. I've spent probably 16 hours on hold or working with folks on both sides of the fence. I had escalation tickets and second tier folks call back and no one can eve say what V205 even is. I can launch the Cox VOD app on the Tivo or search for a show that says it's available on Cox VOD. If I select to watch, the spinning circle comes and then a text box that says Error V205 Cox VOD is temporarily unavailable. Try again later or call Cox. Have done both. There are so many entries on these forums reporting the V205 error and some general suggestions, but there is never an entry with a real report of the solution. Can anyone from Cox help me? I once heard of a guy that works in escalated support that used Tivo on Cox and he knew all fixes, but this was from a Cox engineer that said that this guy was one of the only guys that could make Tivo work with VOD. Tivo is definitely no help. They turn around and put you on a conference call with them and Cox and you sit there listening to each of them blame the other. Any help would be appreciated. So my living room tuning adapter didn't want to connect to my TiVo. We tried four tuning adapters then the Cox rep made a temporary drop from the outside tap into my living room and it immediately connected. They want to run a brand new line to my living room, which is quite a project. He mentioned to the person making the appointment it's not a normal 6 point drop and it's a 24 point drop. No clue what all that stuff means. Anyway should I let COX run the line or hire someone that might do a better job? I don't want lots of wires running all over my house. It needs run from the main box on the left side of my house all the way to the right side of my house. It's a two story so no attic access. I just don't want a crappy job. Your thoughts?
