My Insane data usage solved!!!
Just wanted to take a moment and post for other cox subscribers out there that may have an issue with reaching the 1TB data cap. Recently I went over my 1Tb, I had never came close to this amount. For the life of me swore we actually used less internet than the previous months. Well turns out my new Technicolor cgm4140 gateway from cox will pull 300mbps and higher on the 5GHz frequency. This caused my netflix accounts to stream at the highest quality setting because by default it is set to auto quality. This will cause your data usage to go through the roof. I changed my account setting on netflix to medium on main account and low on the other users for that account and for the month of January I have only used HALF of my data. My old gateway would only do between 25mbps to 50mbps so the stream quality was never high and I would see between 300 to 500 Gigs usage. This also applies if you have youtube and other apps that have it set to auto stream your quality. Hopefully this helps with anybody having the high data usage problem I had.29KViews4likes13CommentsHuge spike in WiFi Data Usage
Hello, I've experienced a unexplained spike in data usage in the last two billing cycles. Cox support was of no help in identifying why. No unusual devices are connected to my network, and I haven't had any dramatic changes that would cause a sudden spike in usage. April cycle: 599 GB used May cycle: 675 GB used June cycle: 1252 GB used (spike) - 79% was from "Web browsing & apps" July - 10 days in to cycle: 673 GB used (more than 50% in ~10 days). -- So far, 89% is from "Web browsing & apps" I am unable to get usage info for the April/May and other previous cycles. Has anyone else experienced this? What can I do? And how can I find out what is causing this? In June was the very first time I've gotten this message, followed by July. I am very confused here, and Cox support was of no help.692Views3likes45Commentsdata caps?
why does cox still have data caps? it such an old fashion business model? when i lived in california i had no data caps with spectrum or frontier. move to kansas and i am paying more for internet with a data cap. for the price we are paying there should be no data caps anymore. that went away with cell phone plans with a limited amount of minutes. i tried to ask a live agent but he couldn't give me a straight answer. he told me well for more money we can give you more data. Well I am glad Ideatek is coming to my town soon and I will have an alternate choice and cox will no longer have the monopoly in our town.448Views3likes5CommentsJust a reminder on user opinion of Cox Data Caps
Just a reminder, since imposing data caps you have done little to address the complaints of customers (data caps too low, no option for unlimited that is reasonable, being so *** greedy it makes me cringe paying my bill every month). I still absolutely despise this company and its policies on capping data to 1TB for all levels of internet service, it's a joke in 2018 and you should be ashamed of yourselves. I seriously can't wait to for SpaceX satellite internet to become available, because the moment I have a viable alternative (let's see you stop SpaceX accessing utility poles you anti-competitive you-know-whats) I will be ditching your company so fast and never looking back. You're fortunate in that, for now, there is no viable alternative for service in my area... you better believe if I move, ISPs will be high on my list of considerations and if Cox is the only option, I'll just move somewhere else. The other part that is fortunate for Cox is that you STILL HAVE TIME to fix your colossal screw ups, before the competition comes in and kills you (it's going to happen, it's only a matter of time, look at your TV business). Fix this, and maybe the hemorrhage of customers will not be so bad when another company that doesn't want my arm, leg and first born to provide me with a decent service at a fair price arrives. In the past, SEVERAL years ago, Cox had data caps in my market (though not enforced at the time) of OVER 2TB... what happened? This was years ago, and someone at Cox deemed that to be a fair amount back then... I'll tell you what happened. Greed. Plain and simple, you found a way to increase your profits at the customers' expense, yet again. Your investments in infrastructure are a joke, you're never laying new fiber or upgrading existing lines... you barely fix what breaks, and wait for things to break and go down before fixing (if you ever even upgrade at all, I'm talking Nodes here). All you're OBVIOUSLY doing is overselling your capacity, and hoping that Data Caps will offset the amount of use that customer are getting, so you can keep piling on more and more customers while never improving or upgrading a *** thing on your end. It makes me sick, and I am going to continue to complain as long as there are data caps and no reasonable method to avoid them entirely. Eventually, if/when you do nothing, I willtake my business to the first competitoralong with plenty of others with me... I would almost rather it go that way, because in my current view of Cox, not much would make me happier than seeing you go out of business in the nastiest possible way. You know what they say about karma, and you'll have earned every bit of it. Doing business with Cox feels like being in an exploitive relationship, with no easy way out (no competition, and anti-competitive behavior from Cox to keep any and all competition far away, funny how there's always enough money for that project isn't it????). Do something about it. Sincerely, A once happy, butnow extremely unhappy customer.594Views2likes0CommentsHuge spike in data usage since switching to Gigablast
My brother and I switched to Gigablast last month, and this current cycle we have used more data each day (according to our Cox online account) than we did during our HIGHEST usage day last billing cycle. Is this due to Gigblast and having the ability to download things faster and in higher quality? We have not changed anything in terms of the number of devices using the internet, streaming significantly more shows, games, videos, etc. We have maintained our usage of devices, yet, we have apparently used 86% of our 1.28 TB data plan in 13 days (almost exactly what we used in 30 days last cycle). This is very strange. Has anyone else had a similar issue? What can we do about it, besides upgrading our data plan, which we are trying to avoid?525Views1like1CommentData Caps
Why does cox make you pay for unlimited data, I just bought COD MW and its a 164gb game, that is like 4 days of data gone in one day, I know all the other providers don't have data caps, but why does cox have it? It is so annoying when you check your bill and see 100$ in overages. I just want to download my games without being paranoid all the time.2.5KViews1like11Comments
