I guess it's a supply/demand situation they take advantage of. People in rural areas who have no other options but them. Pay this, or have no internet. Other options besides cable and fiber? What other options are available that Is consistent, and isn't "land based"? I have 1 service provider in my area (Cox) and there has been issues in my area for years now and they can't seem to resolve it and I'm fed up. It's gigabit internet and I often get ping up to 1,000ms. Is there any options that would suffice for gaming online? I know there is LTE services but all the companies say they don't support my area, which is odd.. What options should I look into and how do I go about acquiring it? Thanks in advance! Question about infrastructural Network oversaturation I've been dealing with internet issues as far as I can even remember. While normal use of the internet seems to work fine, trying to game on this network is a complete nightmare. Recently I've learned more about how to diagnose and detect where the issues are happening using ping plotter. I've been trying to get this fixed with complaint calls for years, and they always put in a ticket for "node maintenance", and nothing ever changes for me. Well, THIS time, they're telling me that they must perform a node split and that the work is scheduled for 2022.. I was told this at the beginning of November. Anyways..upon more testing, I noticed that my downstream latency is a solid 30-40ms at any given time. But my upload latency is never lower than 180ms. To me, that sounds about right due to the idea that when playing online, the server runs fine...it's is only I that is skipping around and getting super late Registry etc... My question: They're telling me that my issue is due to oversaturation of the network in my area..(and yes, this was happening way before "covid") The thing is that I was under the impression that in order to have oversaturation, the case would have to be that too many customers are utilizing the network at the same time and it becomes overloaded and congested. Now when I asked cox tech support about why the same issues happen during non peak hours on any given day....during the hours of 1am to 5am on a weekday, for example. He pretty much told me that people are most likely overloading the network at these times as well. I find that VERY hard to believe. So...are there situations where I would face these issues of "oversaturation" when the majority of people aren't even using the internet? Because I feel like I'm being thrown into that category out of the simplicity of just being able to say it, followed by thanking me for being patient Re: Question about upload ping I've sent countless ping plotter results to social media support. Pings spike up to 200ms+ on any ip that I ping, and it's even worse when I'm gaming and putting a load on my network. I can't ping the game servers because they do not provide me with the ip address for the servers. But it happens on all online games I play. So it's not the servers Question about upload ping So I've been struggling to pin point an issue I've been enduring for years. I'll start by saying that I've had probably 20 tech visits in the last 20 years. In that time I've had all wiring and coax changed in my home and from my home to the street. I've tried 4 different routers and 4 different modems for troubleshooting purposes. The techs come here and say the signal literally looks perfect. Speed tests give me good speeds that I should be getting. But when I try to game online, it lags like hell..on every game. Recently I went on DSL reports and tested my buffer bloat under load. The picture attached here were my results. I'll also leave a link for more insight. When I'm online in a server, everything in the server looks fine...nothing lagging...but it's my own character that is skipping every where...rubber banding and whatnot. That would make sense that my download from the server is stable, but my upload to the server of my in game actions are all over the place. If all my wiring and gear is fine, what cam be the issue. I read online about something called RF ingress.. could this be an issue somewhere down the line? And can that be causing packet burst if the server isn't the issue? www.dslreports.com/.../69976670 Questions about Node Replacement I've been on cox's behind about issues I've been having for years. They are finally in the works of replacing a node in my area, as stated by a few different tech agents. My question is: what are the effects of this? My issues are not about my speeds because in speed tests, I get a clean test of 800mbps down / 34mbps up and 10ms ping. The problem is that when gaming, my ping fluctuates anywhere from 30ms to 300ms...occasionally 1000ms. When running ping plotter to servers like Twitter and Google, The issues start at hop 2 and persistent through the rest of the route. Ping begins to spike up into the 100s and 200s at hop 2 and all down the line, and eventually leads to packet loss on these hops. Hops 2-6 are all cox hops. My question is... is it likely that a bad node in my area would set this chain of ping spikes and jitter and it persist throughout? And would changing the node alleviate this? Re: Ping plotter results show bad cox hops. *question* So what you're saying is that congestion during peak hours, can hinder my speeds during non peak, overnight hours? Ping plotter results show bad cox hops. *question* I've been having internet issues all day. Every day. Ping plotter results show my ping spikes happening on hops 2, 3, 4, and 5. All cox hops. I've been reporting my ping plotter results to them daily. They claim that it's because of network congestion and they are working on it. The thing is that some of these ping plotter results were tested at 2am and even 4am. I know networks aren't congested at those times. Does network congestion leave lingering issues? Or are they just onto the wrong thing? Because i am skeptical Blocking or avoiding bad hops I've been having issues with my internet. Online gaming is laggy and my ping just spikes through the roof over and over. When reporting this issue to cox, I'm suggested to schedule a technician, and Typically, everything looks perfectly fine. But when gaming, I'm unable to be competitive. I ran a few ping plotter routes to Twitter.com, google.com, and pingplotter.com. They all have something in common in which 1 or 2 hops on the route are spiking high latency from time to time...reaching up to 400ms. While there is no packet loss reported, even if packets are "reordered" and still all arrive at destination, it will still feel like packet loss in gaming because gaming is a real time application just like video calls or VOIP. I've been fighting with this issue and cox tech support for years. What do I do about this? And is it possible to avoid or block those bad hops? Extend wifi to shop If I have my modem and router upstairs, and I wanted to chain my wifi down stairs to a wifi extender, then set up another one outside in the shop, what would I need to do so?
