Alert new customers, when you sign up for service you are getting a refurbished box that breaks constantly and fees will be charged for coming out to replace a refurbished box with another refurbished box. Im going on my fourth box in 4 months. Apparently the refurbishers aren't able to fix the boxes to last more than a month. It's getting worse. And unless you live in an area with fiber optic lines this will continue. I was personally told this by the last 2 techs that came out.
If you replaced a box with the same box and the error continued, I would guess the problem is something other then the box like the signal. Not to say they don't refurb. their boxes. I think the reason is they are trying to recoup the cost of cable to increase profit margins. Every penny counts.
It could be the same problem or a different problem. It appears a "new" box initially works but breaks after a month.
Most refurbished boxes have defects so sometimes you just have to pick your poison. If I try to navigate to a particular setting on mine, Contour just exits settings altogether. Can I live with it? Sure. If I exchange the box, I'd probably inherent a worst problem.
That is if the tech qualifies the "fix" as a Cox problem. If a tech simply replaces a box, sure, it's was faulty rented equipment. However, if a tech does multiple actions and the problem eventually resolves itself, what exactly fixed it? I'm sure the techs are told to not blame Cox for the fault. Cha-ching!
