i want to avoid rental fees on equipment. i am thinking of buying netgear cax80. i recently upgraded my internet to ultimate 500. i guess my old modem/router is not capable of the higher internet package. any help is appreciated.

What's the make and model of your old modem/router? Cox does authorize the DOCSIS in the CAX80 on their network. Do you have AX devices? Do you subscribe to landline service?

FYI Cox does. See link below. I would suggest a separate modem and router though.
What the info? I verified earlier. Yeah...if 1 component in combo breaks, it's all useless.
It's like a amphibious car, make a pretty lousy car and boat. I would suggest the Arris SB8200. Not only has it been around a long time, but it's the one they support for Cox Business so the firmware gets more updates IMO. Beyond that, if you want to future proof above 1Gbps speeds from Cox, look into the Arris S33, which has a 2.5Gbps port.
As for the router, need more info. What kind of devices do you have? What's your price point?
