Channels Freeze, then become Unavailable

Over the last three weeks, my most frequently watched channels often freeze, then become unavailable.  I was watching a play-off football game on CBS, and in the middle of it the picture goes out.  I can’t reconnect but other stations are viewable.  How is this possible?  I want a partial refund because I have to leave my house, go to a sports bar, just to finish watching the game I started.  TOTALLY ridiculous!  Cox cable is REALLY bad, and if I had a viable alternative to this horrible company, I would take it.
