Why do we pay premium prices for internet, but then we are restricted?!

The modem will only bridge to one device. The 2nd port is actually used for LACP. When used with a compatible router it'll allow you to configure a 2nd connection between the modem and router for additional Ethernet capacity beyond 1Gbps. As you have been told this feature is disabled for the time being.
