What is my true speed?

I subscribe to 300/30, but two techs have said there's an issue in my neighborhood with a bad node affecting everyone with COX, and it's causing my upload speeds to be much slower than normal.

Speed tests at most sites including speediest.net using different servers, have my upload speeds averaging 6-10, When I test at DSL Reports, the upload speeds averages around 30. Which one is correct? Why is there such a difference? It's always fast on DSL and slow on the other test sites.

I'm guessing the speeds from speedtest.net are correct because a tech was here yesterday and was getting the same slow speeds when he tested them directly on the pole.

  • Hi Skippermark. We recommend using www.cox.com/.../speedtest.html as this uses our Cox servers to test with. If you subscribe to 300/30, you should be getting around 30 mbps up. If you are using several different sites to test with and you are getting the same results but DSL site shows 30, you may want to check the servers that these sites are using and make sure that the server they are testing is the closest one to you as all sites don't always direct to the closest site instead testing the first available site which isn't always correct. Also, you may want to test the speed on at least 2 devices, which will also give you an idea of how to proceed. If you require further assistance, please contact us via email at cox.help@cox.com including your name, complete address and description of your issue and we will be glad to assist you.
