Did you ask the tech to add the Arris CM8200A internet-only modem? The TM3402 is free with Cox phone service, but the other modem will probably have a rental fee. You could be paying for a modem you shouldn't need.
I was told that the modem itself was free, not sure about any rental charges.

Thanks for that explanation. Cox doesn't normally provide a free modem except for phone. it was nice of them to do that.

Homelife is still listed on the statement you posted. I first thought Cox provided a free Internet modem because Homelife requires Internet, but Internet and equipment aren't included with Homelife.
When I downgraded my services back in April, I got rid of HomeLife, so naturally I returned the HomeLife hub and cameras...and none of it was on my account.
This from Cox's website:
"Homelife smart home service does not include equipment. You must purchase cameras from Cox to use the service".
Did you accidentally return your cameras to Cox? You may have just traded cameras for a modem.

If you keep the CM8200A, check your next Cox bill You'll probably see a new modem rental charge. Why do you need a separate modem for Internet?

The tech told me that they were having issues with the TM3402. If I get my mom used to using a cell phone (83 and not tech-savvy at all), then I'll dump Voice and switch to Mobile.
Also, we haven't paid a modem rental fee since I downgraded all of our services, going back 4 months. And we still had the Panoramic WiFi modem at the time.
UPDATE: no new charges for the modem

New charges probably wouldn't show up yet. Cox only has to provide you a free modem for phone. With a TM3402, you get a free, Internet modem as a bonus because it has both phone and Internet capability. But I don't know that Cox is obligated to provide a free Internet modem just because you have Cox phone.

Maybe a difference between TM3402 and TM3402A is causing issues. If you're billed for a 2nd modem, see if you can replace the TM3402 with a TM3402A and give the CM8200A back to Cox.

The 3402A, is a nice modem. With a good router on it, it should handle most everything needed.

I thought the main difference between the 3402 and 3402A is a 2.5Gbps ethernet port. To that regard, I thought Cox was using the Arris TM9202?

According to the Cox tech, the CM82000A is a purchase-only modem, so no rental fees involved. If I can find a super-simple mobile phone that works with Cox Mobile, I'll dump Cox Voice.

You won't see a rental fee then, but when you check your Cox bill, you may find out you bought a modem you shouldn't need.
- AJ_Gringo6192 years agoNew Contributor III
It was free, so that's not an issue.
- CurtB2 years agoHonored Contributor
How do you know it was free? Was it because a tech told you it was free? Do you think Cox just gave you a modem?
- AJ_Gringo6192 years agoNew Contributor III
Actually, I do. I received a full credit today for the modem, just like the tech said I would.
- CurtB2 years agoHonored Contributor
That's good to know. Thanks for the update. Just curious though. What did the credit look like? You hadn't actually paid for it yet had you?
- AJ_Gringo6192 years agoNew Contributor III
No. Basically a charge will show up for the modem on my next bill, with the credit already posting. Cox has been bending over backwards on this; also got another credit due to the poor service.
Here's the adjustment for the modem (price not included):
Statement:Internet, TV, Homelife, Voice
Adjustment Description:Equipment Purchase Credit
- CurtB2 years agoHonored Contributor
You received an equipment purchase credit. Unless there was some mention of returning the modem when service is terminated, wouldn't that mean that Cox literally gave you the modem? It's now your property. What a deal.
You might want to save a copy of your next bill some place that you can find it later though.

I'm willing to be that it will be officially added to my account. But, you never know. When I downgraded my services back in April, I got rid of HomeLife, so naturally I returned the HomeLife hub and cameras...and none of it was on my account.
- AJ_Gringo6192 years agoNew Contributor III
Hmmm...guess I did, then. It was only one, so I'm still up a little 🙂
Not sure why HomeLife is being listed, been gone since I downgraded (no charges, either).

You should review your Cox monthly bills since April to determine if you received a credit for the returned equipment. If one was not received, you should locate documentation for the April transaction and contact Cox to request a credit for the camera and hub returned by mistake. It will probably be on your May bill.
The Cox website for "CANCELLING HOMELIFE SERVICE" includes the following:
- The Cox Homelife Touchscreen Control Panel must be returned to Cox to avoid being charged the associated non-return fee (if leased)
- All other equipment is owned by you and can be left in your home, discarded or taken with you.
Cox should have known the HomeLife camera was owned by you. They should have known the Touchscreen Control Panel (hub?) was owned by you when it wasn't included in the list of equipment on your account. Cox should have told you the equipment was your property and should not have accepted it without compensating you.
If you still have the Cox statements showing payment for the camera and hub, you should have that available as proof you purchased the equipment and to determine the approximate value of the equipment that was returned.

All I had was the hub (worst WiFi device I've ever owned) and the camera. Like I said, it's worth way less than the new modem, so I'm not going to worry about. I appreciate all the help/advice.
