Yes, I can check email using the webmail on cox.net. I orefer to use my local email client, Windows Live, which was working fine yesterday, but not this morning. I have double-checked all my settings, everything is exactly like it was prior to the Cox maintenance window. I called support and they insisted on repeating all the checks I had already done, and decide the problem was with Windows Live, because they did not see any issues logged in their system for email servers. This is a ridiculous determination, sa the only change since yesterday was Cox did a mantenance Window. Given that I am not the only person today to be postying about this, obviously something is wrong on the email server side.

I'm still having the problem. I called Cox tech support Wednesday evening 5 pm PT, and a ticket was opened at that time. My ticket was definitely logged because about an hour ago I got a email "survey" relating to my experience with tech support.

Yep. It's not working for me either in NW FL. I can send emails but none are coming in.

Completely agree. Seeing the same issue.
Used command: nslookup pop.cox.net
and it returned ip address: 146.20.147.245
Then used command: tracert 146.20.147.245
and of course it looked here, there, and everywhere and eventually timed out here:
In browser, entered URL: https://rdpguard.com/free-whois.aspx?ip=146.20.147.245
which indicates it's hosted by "Rackspace Hosting".
Fix it! Hanging paying customers out to dry for an extended period of time like this is beyond outrageous. Since Cox no longer supports creation of new email accounts and only "supporting" "old" email accounts, I'm sure we can expect more of the same. Time to consider the options, and not just for email.
- LisaH4 years agoModeratorHi Sburroughs6. Are you still having issues with email using Windows live mail? If so, please re-enter your cox user id and password to update them. This should fix the error you are getting. Thanks, Lisa, Cox Support Forums Moderator

Yes, I am still having issues. I did as you suggested, renetering my userid and password, same result getting the "Unable to send or receive messages for the Cox (sburroughs6) account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity." error. I then logged into the Cox website and changed my password, then entered the new password into Midows Live Mail, same result, so it does not appear to be a password issue. Based on a comment from another user in this thread, I sent an email to both my Cox email and my work email addresses. I recieved it at my work address as normal, and I see it in my inbox when I check it on the Cox Webmail, so the issue appears to be with the 'pop.cox.net' server accepting connections for recieving mail. This is getting more than a little ridiculous.

I checked again, after 2 more hoiurs, and I did receive emails in Windows Live and did not receive the error message regarding pop.cox.net, but have received no explanaiton of the issue. As I have made no changes at all since the previous attempt that was still failing and it has now started working as normal, I definitely want to receive a reason for the outage, given how many hoops Cox asked me to jump through as they tried to insist the issue was on my side.
