Need port forwarding. App is dead. Is it possible?

192.168.0.1 tells me to go to wifi.cox.com. wifi.cox.com tells me to download the app. The app says "Sorry, we're having some trouble XDXDXD our bad lol. Please call 1-800-234-3993". I call that numb...

Return the gateway and buy yourself a stand alone modem and router(assuming you don't have wireless boxes or cloud DVR). I suggest the Arris S33 and Asus RT-AX86u but that may be overkill for your service. What speed do you pay for? Asus makes it easy with their Open NAT feature which automatically sets the forward rules by selecting the game/app. You can still manually set rules if you prefer though.

Why does he need port forwarding? The ONLY reason I can think of, is remote access to a computer. XBOX and Playstation tell people ALL the time port forwarding is necessary, BUT, it's ONLY necessary when connection is initiated from a remote device. If the device in question initiates the communication, the router will auto forward all traffic to and from the devices correctly. Unless it's a bad router. I have tested the pw3 and previous pano modems with xbox and playstation 2/3/4/5 out of the box, and connected without issue. My current modem is the DG2460 which was an earlier model of pano modem, and I can play on any gaming system, plug and play, no changes required.

  Regardless of the reason, I shouldn't have to explain my motives to perform basic configuration tasks, especially to random internet commenters. I am now on day 6 of not being able to get past the broken cloud login.
  
  I finally managed to get Cox support to pick up the phone, and after an hour spent fighting chat, waiting on hold and escalating to level 2, they told me that their login server is down because it's "undergoing maintenance." For six days. They told me that there is absolutely nothing they can do on their end, and that I just have to wait until their server is back up. Inexcusible.
  
  Well, I guess there is one thing I can do. Chuck the panoramic wifi nonsense and get a gateway that can actually be configured.

    Perhaps there is a silver lining to this situation and that is now you will have more control over your network. Not only can you set your own DNS, but you can fact check Cox's bandwidth meter too. Having your own router opens up all kinds of configuration options. Keeps it all local too, without needing a app or cloud to make it work. Don't just wait for their cloud to be back up. Take this time to upgrade.

  Unless you are using UPnP(which is a security risk) you have to forward ports for open NAT on Xbox. Be default it is moderate. I think TCP/UDP 3074 is the important one.

    Interesting.... Mine has worked without issue on my modem, again one of the early pano modems, without a problem, and I have done NO port forwarding. If you NEED open NAT, then put it on a DMZ. Technically, you are not supposed to HOST while on a residential service anyways.
