McAfee Real-Time Scanning issue

I have the Cox Security which uses McAfee. When I launch the software, i get on on-screen alert telling me to turn on real-time scanning. I turn it on, and the screen confirms it is on. I exit out of McAfee, and when I relaunch to go back in, it tells me that real-time scanning is off and to turn it on. 

What is going on with this flaky software?

    You don't need it if you're running Windows 10 and Windows Defender. Also, it will interfere with Windows Update and cause several hard-to-trace problem. I know for a fact. The only useful McAfee thing is McAfee Web Boost if you use Chrome.
