Internet speeds subpar

Hello all, I've recently had issues with my internet. My plan allows me to have 500 down but I am only getting around 15 down. Once I reset the router for about 2 minutes I have 500 down like I'm supposed to and then it immediately goes back to having around 15 down. It has been like this for the last 6 months and I am contemplating switching Cox internet. Does anyone know a fix so that way I can stay with them? I prefer them and would love to stay a customer as I've had them for the last 5 years.

    First, are you testing your speed over wifi or ethernet? Wifi is not a dependable way to test speed since there are many variables. Second, what model modem/router do you have? Next, what changed around 6 months ago? Last, how does the coaxial get from the street/pole to the room the modem/gateway is in? Any splitters/filters/amp?
