I know we are used to email being almost instantaneous, but.... IAW RFC Specifications, the delivery of email must take place within 24 hours of the SMTP server receipt from the sender. That basically translates to, once the smtp server receives it from the sender, it is supposed to be delivered to the incoming mail server for the recipient and placed into their inbox for the recipient to be able to receive it. As long as you receive it within 24 hours of it's being sent, it's within specification.
When you are using a web site that sends an authentication code via email that times out in ten minutes, a 30 minute delay is definitely a problem. I think the IAW RFC Specifications are out of date with modern email usage.
Have you tried sending yourself a blank email? Is that delayed? I wonder if some anti-spam mechanism is at work, delaying the email.
I understand what you are saying, if time is of the importance, then have the bank call you with a code. The bank or any other establishment should NEVER use a timed 10 minute code through email, that's like sending you a pin code in the mail, good for 24 hours from time of sending.
