The thing I remember about my A+ test is they had a wrong answer for one of the questions. The question asked what kind of technology is Bluetooth and the answer was infrared, which we know is incorrect.
As for the CAX30, having a separate firmware gets high grades in my book. That was one of the main reasons I tell people not to get a gateway. You should not trust your ISP with your router firmware. It changes too often and in too many different ways for the ISP testing group to keep up.
